Cast on with 2 colors

This cast on method reminds on a long tail cast on, but instead you work with 2 strands in different colors. Start with a slipknot holding the strands double, this one is later removed, so that all sts cast on are all with 1 strand of the yarn. To cast on with 2 colors is a great start on a 2-colored work, like intarsia, fair-isle patterns, stripes or twined knitting.

Cast on with 3 colors

Similar cast on technique as you use on a long tail cast on, but here we are working with 3 strands in different colors. First make a slipknot to hold all three strands together (the slipknot is untied when finished cast on). We will use one color as the edging and this strand goes around the thumb, and the other 2 colors will be alternated in the new sts as shown in video. Perfect start on a diagonal striped piece, like a cuff or hem, on a fair isle pattern that starts immediately after cast on, or for twined knitting.

Cast on 2 colors alternating

Similar cast on technique as you use on a long tail cast on, but here we are holding two strands in different colors together. How to cast on with 2 circular needles to get a looser cast on edge

In this DROPS video we show how you can cast on with two circular needles. We sometimes recommend this in our patterns to prevent the cast on edge being too tight. When you have cast on the required number of stitches, you pull out one circular needle and start to knit. In this video, we cast on with needle 7 and 8 = US 10,75 and US 11, and it is needle 8 = US 10,75 that we pull out. We use the yarn DROPS Snow in the video. Double Knitting: invisible cast on

Cast on this way with two colors alternating for an invisible start on your double knitted piece. The starting slipknot will be dropped after a couple rows and is not to be included in the number of stitches to be cast on. You cast on for both sides at the same time, and the stitches alternately belongs to front and back side of work. Make sure to cast on an even number of stitches, so that you will have the same amount of sts in the front and in the back. How to cast on and bind off with double threads

In this DROPS video we show how to cast on and how to bind off with double yarn. In some of our patterns it is described that one should both cast on and bind off with double threads. We do this to get a nicer ending / a little more weight on the garment / more elastic / slightly loosely bind off, but everything depends on which yarn you work with. Braided edge

In this DROPS video we show you how to work a braided edge. A braided edge is worked best in the round. We first cast on an even number of stitches with 2 different colors. And then we remove the loop from the beginning of the needle and place a marker before we knit the first round. We knit the colors alternately. The next two rounds are purled and remember to work the stitches in the same color as the round below. When you purl the first round put your working yarn to the right up and over the needle, and when you purl the second round put the working yarn down to the left.

Hem - knitted w/picot along the edge

Many of our designs uses this pretty and feminine hem/edge. You work an eyelet row and this row is then where we do the fold and from where all length measures in pattern are measured. So knit a couple of cm/ an inch in stockinette st then work a row from RS like this; *K2 tog, 1 yo*, repeat *-* to end of row. Continue in stockinette or what patterns tells. Afterward fold the bottom edge to inside and sew with neat sts.

How to work an easy picot edge

In this DROPS video we show how to work an easy picot edge. We work back and forth, but you can also work it in the round. Work like this on row 1: * Knit 7 stitches, slip 2nd stitch on right needle over outermost stitch on right needle (over the last stitch worked), pass next stitch on right needle over outermost stitch on right needle (2 stitches decreased = 1 arch) *, work from *-* the entire row. How to knit a fan edge

In this DROPS video we show you how to knit a fan edge with the help of a crochet hook. If you need 20 stitches you have to make 5 fans (1 fan = 4 stitches). * Cast on 10 stitches on both a knitting needle and a crochet hook, (remember to have enough thread to cast on with). Make a yarn over the crochet hook, pull the yarn through the 10 stitches, pick up 1st stitch with the crochet hook and pull it through the loop on the crochet hook, tighten the thread, pick up the 10th stitches with the crochet hook, pull out the knitting needle and put the 2 stitches from crochet hook to the knitting needle * (= 1 fan). Repeat from * - * until you have half the number of stitches you want. Turn and cast on 2 new stitches between the 2 stitches in each fan on the 1st row from WS. Start knitting stockinette stitch. We use the yarn DROPS Snow in the video.

How to work a flounce edge after chart

In this DROPS video we show how to work a flounce edge after chart A.1 used in the “Rosy Ruffles” socks in DROPS 223-47. We have already cast on 36 stitches with 2 threads. We work further with only 1 thread. These socks are worked in DROPS Nord, but in this video we work with a thicker yarn; DROPS Snow. How to work a rib with small waves along the cast-on edge

In this DROPS video we show how we work a rib with small waves along the cast-on edge. We have already worked 4 rows with rib (1K and 1P), and with 3K in the beginning and end in each row (both from RS and WS). Then we work as follows: Knit 1, * purl 1, knit 1, purl 1, take the right needle from the front of work and under the cast on edge, use right needle to lift the outermost stitch from left needle to the right needle, then take the right needle back around under the cast on edge (only the outermost stitch on the right needle is wrapped around the cast on edge), place this stitch back on left needle and knit the stitch (make sure the stitch is not twisted) *, work from *-* the whole row. The neck now has small waves along the cast-on edge. Turn, and work rib to finish measurement. We use the yarn DROPS Snow in the video. How to work a wavy neck edge – back and forth

In this DROPS video we show a way to work a wavy neck edge back and forth. We have already cast on, knitted 1 row from WS and 6 row with stockinette stitch + 3 edge stitch in each side. In the video we work like this: 3 edge stitch, 6 stockinette stitch, * place the yarn in front of piece, insert the right needle down under the piece and up in front, then knit 6, work from * until there are 4 stitches left, knit 1 + 3 edge stitch. In this DROPS video we show to start working a rolling-edge, like the one in DROPS 230-49 and DROPS 230-50. How to work an easy cute lace edge

In this DROPS video we show how to work an easy cute lace edge. Cast on 4 stitches. Row 1: Slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1, make 2 yarn over (= double yarn over) and knit 2. Row 2: Slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 2 (work part 1 of yarn over twisted), purl 1, knit 2. Row 3: Slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 5. Row 4: Slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 5. Row 5: Slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1, make 2 yarn over, knit 2 twisted together, make 2 yarn over, knit 2. Row 6: Slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 8 (work part 1 of yarn over twisted). How to knit a folded edge in a skirt

In this DROPS video we show you how to knit a folded edge in a skirt. The edge is worked in the round. We work 2 1/2 inches in stockinette, before we fold the cast-on edge to the back and knit the stitches from the needle together with the stitches from the cast-on edge. Edge - twisted

Cast on and work some rows in stockinette. We are twisting after every 4th st, but you can twist with shorter or longer spaces. We are twisting by twisting the left needle away from us, you can twist away from you or towards you, just be consistent. On socks or sleeve edges for example you might want to make one of each to be mirrored. This technique creates a scalloped twisted edge. It is just as stretchy as a regular stockinette edge.

How to work a diagonal shoulder, cast on stitches for the neckline and work the back piece together

In this DROPS video, we show you how to work each front piece with diagonal shoulders and short rows, the piece is worked bottom up. Then we show how to increase stitches for the neckline and join the shoulders for the back piece, then continue working top down. An I-cord band is worked on each side. We have already worked one section of the front piece and decreased stitches for the neckline. The video shows how we work 6 short rows (German short rows) on the right front piece, creating a diagonal shoulder. Then we show how to increase 1 stitch 3 times towards the neckline, which is now the back piece. Then we show the same for the left shoulder and finally cast on 12 stitches between the shoulders before the shoulders are knitted together. We use the yarn DROPS Snow in the video. This technique is used among other things in pattern DROPS 255-9, Driftwood Vest, with a different stitch count, number of short rows and cast-on stitches.
