Cast on with 2 colors

This cast on method reminds on a long tail cast on, but instead you work with 2 strands in different colors.
Start with a slipknot holding the strands double, this one is later removed, so that all sts cast on are all with 1 strand of the yarn. To cast on with 2 colors is a great start on a 2-colored work, like intarsia, fair-isle patterns, stripes or twined knitting.

DROPS Design :

Dear Pat, are you referring to 2 colours of the same yarn or 2 different threads of yarn? Could you indicate which pattern you are working so we may better help you? If you are casting on to work with 1 single thread but you will use different colours at different times (i.e. stripes) you can cast on as shown in this video. If you are working both threads together you don't need to separate them; just work as if you had two strands of the same yarn together, even if they are different threads. Happy knitting!

Buonasera Laura, no, questo video è adatto all'avvio su un capo con una lavorazione a più colori; forse quello a cui fa riferimento è l'avvio provvisorio. Buon lavoro!

Dear Mrs Figueroa Mullane, in the Perly May jumper, cast on the sts with 2 strands of yarn as there were just one (there will be 2 strands of yarn for each st), then continue working with only 1 yarn. Casting off that way with 2 strands of yarn will avoid a tight cast-on edge. Happy knitting!

In this DROPS video, we show you how to work each front piece with diagonal shoulders and short rows, the piece is worked bottom up. In this DROPS video we show how you can cast on with two circular needles. We sometimes recommend this in our patterns to prevent the cast on edge being too tight. When you have cast on the required number of stitches, you pull out one circular needle and start to knit.
