Star stitch pattern - crochet

You start by chaining an uneven number of sts. You need a minimum of 7 ch for 1 star, 9 ch makes 2 stars, 11 ch makes 3 stars and so on. On our sample we ch 13 for 4 stars. Row 1 (RS): pick up 5 sts starting in 2nd ch from hook = 6 sts on hook, make a yo and pull through all 6 sts, ch 1 which creates a hole on top of the 6 sts, *pick up 1 st in the hole, 1 st in the side of the last st of 6 sts, 1 st in the same ch as the last st of 6 sts was picked up in, 1 st in each of next 2 chain = 6 sts on hook, make a yo and pull through all 6 sts, ch 1*, repeat *-*. Make 1 hdc in last ch. Row 2 (WS): ch 2, work 2 hdc in "each star hole", end row with 1 hdc in last st. Row 3: Ch 3, pick up 1 st in 2nd and 3rd chain from hook, 1 st in first 3 sts on row = 6 sts on hook, make a yo and pull through all 6 sts, ch 1, *pick up 1 st in the hole, 1 st in the side of the last st of 6 sts, 1 st in the same st as the last st of 6 sts was picked up in, 1 st in each of next 2 sts = 6 sts on hook, make a yo and pull through all 6 sts, ch 1*, repeat *-*. Make 1 hdc in last ch. Turn. Repeat row 2 and 3 for star pattern.

Crochet: Star stitch pattern – in the round

In this DROPS video we work 25LOOSE ch and form a ring with 1 sl st in first ch. ROUND 1: Work ch 3, pick up 5 sts, beg in 2nd ch from hook (= 6 sts on hook), make a YO and pull through all 6 sts, work 1 ch to make a hole over the 6 sts, * pick up 1 st in the hole, pick up 1 st in the side on the last of the 6 sts, pick up 1 st in same ch as the last of the 6 sts was picked up in, 1 st in each of the 2 next ch (= 6 sts on hook), make a YO and pull through all 6 sts, 1 ch *, repeat from *-* 11 times in total, finish with 1 sl st in 3rd ch at beg of round. ROUND 2: ch 2, work 2 hdc in each "star hole", finish round with 1 sl st in 2nd ch at beg of round = 12 stars. ROUND 3: ch 3, pick up 1 st in 2nd and 3rd ch from hook, 1 st in the back loop of the first 3 hdc on row (= 6 sts on hook), make a YO and pull through all 6 sts, ch 1, * pick up 1 st in the hole, 1 st in the side on the last of the 6 sts, 1 st in the back loop of the same hdc as the last of the 6 sts was picked up in, 1 st in the back loop of each of the 2 hdc (= 6 sts on hook), make a YO and pull through all 6 sts, 1 ch *, repeat from *-* 11 times in total, finish with 1 sl st in 3rd ch at beg of round. Repeat from round 2 and 3 to the desired length. (If you want you can sew a few stitches in the transition between row 3 and 2, if you think the holes are too large). Granny stripes

Ever so popular crochet granny stripes. Chain a number of sts that can be divided by 3, we are ch 18 in the video. 1st row: 3 dc in the 6th ch from hook, *skip 2 ch, 3 dc in the next ch* , repeat from *-* until end of row. Turn the piece. 2nd row: 3 ch, 3 dc in between the 2 first dc groups from previous row, *3 dc in between the next 2 dc groups*, repeat from *-* until end of row and finish with 3 dc in the ch space from beginning of previous row - when making the last pull through on the last dc, change color if you want the stripes in different colors. You can chose either to cut the yarn and fasten it later (shown in video at the very end), or letting the yarn follow up along the edge if you will do a border around your piece after. Repeat the 2nd row.

How to crochet a basket weave pattern

In this DROPS video we show how to crochet a basket weave pattern. In the video we start with a chain row of 26 sts, turn and work 1 dc in 4th chain from hook, and then 1 dc in each ch = 24 dc (dividable by 4). 2nd row: ch 1, crochet *1 dc in front post around each of the next 4 dc, 1 dc in back post around each of the next 4 dc *, repeat *-*. 3rd row: ch 1, work *4 dc in front post, 4 dc in back post*, repeat *-*. 4th row: ch 1, work * 1 dc in back post around each of the next 4 dc, 1 dc in front post around each of the next 4 dc *, repeat *-*. 5th row: ch 1, work *4 dc in back post, 4 dc in front post*, repeat *-*. How to crochet a rib

In this DROPS video we show how to crochet a rib pattern that looks like it has been knitted (K1 P1). Row 1: Crochet the number of chain stitches you want, in the video we have 12, turn. Row 2: Work 1 chain stitch, 1 single crochet in each chain stitches the entire row, turn. Row 3: Work 1 chain stitch, 1 slip stitch in each of the single crochet the entire row, turn. How to crochet Larksfoot stitches

In this DROPS video we show how we crochet Larksfoot stitches. Work a number of chain stitches that are multiples by 4+1. We have already crocheted a chain row with 21 chain stitches and we have selected to crochet with 3 colors. We use DROPS Snow in the video, but the other swatch is crochetet in DROPS Puna, crochet hook size 4.0 mm/G/6, 40+1 chain stitch, row 1 is crocheted 1 time, row 2-5 is crocheted 4 times and then row 2 one more time.

How to crochet the Spike Stitch – long double crochet

In this DROPS video we show how to crochet the Spike Stitch, also called the long single crochet. Work chain stitches with a number multiplied with 6+1. In this video we have 24+1 chain stitches. Work like this: Row 1: Turn, 1 chain stitch, 1 single crochet in the 2nd stitch from hook, then work 1 single crochet in each stitches the entire row, turn. Row 2: 1 Chain stitch, 1 single crochet in each stitches the entire row, turn. Row 3-6: Repeat row 2, but in the last pull through on row 6, change color, turn. Now we work the “Spike Stitch” / single crochet with different length. Row 7: Work 1 chain stitch, 1 single crochet in the 1st stitch, 1 single crochet in the next stitch, but in the row under, 1 single crochet in the next stitch, but in the stitch 2 rows under, 1 single crochet in the next stitch, but in the stitch 3 rows under, 1 single crochet in the next stitch, but in the stitch 4 rows under, 1 single crochet in the next stitch, but in the stitch 5 rows under. One rapport with “Spike Stitch” is finish, remember too pull out the single crochets too avoid to be to tight. Repeat the “Spike Stitch” the whole row and work 1 single crochet in the last stitch, turn. Repeat row 2-6, change color and work 1 row with “Spike Stitch”. Work like this to you have your desired length. The small piece in the video is crochet in DROPS Cotton Merino, but we use a thicker yarn when we crochet; DROPS Snow.

How to crochet a «waistcoat stitch»

In this DROPS video we show how to crochet a knit stitch, aka waistcoat stitch or slip single crochet stitch. Usually we crochet the single crochet in both loops from the round below, but in this video we crochet between 2 stitches. Insert the hook at the top of an up-down V. Remember to crochet loosely! First we show only with one color, then two color to create a little heart. We use the yarn DROPS Snow in the video.

How to crochet a strawberry

In this DROPS video we show how to crochet a strawberry. Work double crochet to the stitch where the strawberry starts. Change color (red) and crochet 7 double crochets in the next stitch, pull out the hook and insert it into 1st double crochet and the loop from last double crochet, change color (green) and pull the thread through the loop and 1st double crochet. Insert the hook between the 1st and 2nd double crochet and pick up the thread, repeat this between all double crochets 6 times in total = 7 stitches on hook, yarn over and pull the thread through all 7 stitches. Change color (light gray) and work 1 chain stitch. 1 Work 1 double crochet in each of the next stitches until the next strawberry should be worked. In this video we work 3 double crochets between each strawberry and we work around the threads /colors that are not used. By color change, witch to the next color at the last pull through. We use DROPS Snow in this video and on the little swap we use DROPS Muskat.

How to crochet «The Block Stitch»

In this DROPS video we show how we crochet "The block stitch". Crochet a chain stitch row with a number of stitches divisible by 3 + 1 chain stitch. We work 15 + 1 chain stitches in the video. Work 15 chain stitches with Color 1. ROW 1: Work 1 chain stitch, 1 single crochet in 2nd stitch from crochet hook, 1 single crochet in next stitch, * 2 chain stitches, skip 2 stitches, 1 single crochet in each of the next 2 stitches *, repeat *-* entire row and finish with 1 single crochet in each of the 2 last stitches, turn. ROW 2: Work 3 chain stitches, 1 double crochet in the 1st stitch, now work 3 double crochet in each chain stitch loop the entire row. Finish with 1 double crochet in the last stitch, but use Color 2 in the last pull through, turn. Cut Color 1. ROW 3: Work 1 chain stitch, 1 single crochet in the 1st stitch, 1 single crochet in between last stitch group and last double crochet in previous row, * 2 chain stitches, 1 single crochet in between stitch groups from previous row *, repeat * - * entire row and finish with 1 single crochet in the 3rd chain stitch from previous row, at same time change to Color 3 in the last pull through, turn. Cut color 2. ROW 4: Work 3 chain stitches, 1 double crochet in the 1st stitch, work 3 double crochets in each chain stitch loop the entire row and finish with 1 double crochet in the last stitch, turn. Cut Color 3. Now repeat 3rd and 4th row to desired length. We use the yarn DROPS Snow in the video. This small sample patch is crocheted in DROPS Puna with crochet hook size 3.5 mm = US E/4.

Tunisian crochet, Afghan crochet

... or Tricot Crochet A technique that for larger projects uses a long crochet hook, called an Afghan hook. Start with a row of chain stitches. Work first row by inserting the hook back into the second chain from hook, pull yarn through, then insert hook in next chain, pull yarn through and so on until end of chain row. All new sts remain on the hook and at the end, there will be as many sts on the hook as the pattern required. Do not turn work, but now start binding off each stitch by first pulling yarn through 1 st, then yarn trough 2 sts at the same time until end of row. Make sure to have a constant number of sts everytime you pick up new sts. This technique creates a dense fabric in a grid pattern with a definite front and back side.

Bosnian crochet / slip stitches

In this video we show three different ways to work Bosnian crochet/crochet sl sts. Remember to work LOOSELY. We start by crocheting a set number of ch and form a ring by working a sl st in 1st ch. Then we crochet sl sts into the back of the ch sts on the first ch round, this creates a nice edge that doesn't roll. After 1st round we continue working sl sts in the back loops of the sts (in green). Then we show how to work sl sts in the front loops of the sts (in pink). Finally we show how to work sl st through both loops (off white), when working through both loops it's not called Bosnian crochet When working sl st in back loops we create a horizontal stripes and when working in front loops we create a slanting texture, and when working through both loops there will be a vertical texture. The Bosnian technique gives a dense and durable texture, which is a less elastic and since you work in the round, this technique is perfect for hats and mittens.

Stripes crochet

When you crochet stripes, or want to change color, this his how you do it; when working the last stitch with the old color wait with the last pull through. Take new color and now pull trough. Tighten the old thread. Turn work with a ch and keep working with the new color. If there is a longer distance between the stripes make sure to twist the new color around the previous one when you reach the edge, so that the old color follow the side of your work until you will use it. If this is a sweater the threads will run along the inside of side seam, if it's a potholder, you can make a crochet edge around the potholder afterward to cover the treads along the edge.

Lemon peel - crochet texture

This is a nice crochet texture, similar to a knitted seed stitch look. Start with a row of chain sts, turn and in each chain alternate by working every other stitch as sc and dc. On next row work sc in the dc and dc in the sc. Repeat this row for lemon peel pattern.

Loop stitches crochet

Fun and decorative! Make a loop edge, a loop scarf, a loop hat... Work a row of chains to start. Row 1: Work a row with sc in each chain. Row 2: Work loops: work a sc in first sc. *In next sc make a loop by pulling the yarn a bit long on your left finger, stick hook through the stitch, pick up the yarn in the back loop, pull through stitch, now you have 2 sts on hook, get yarn and pull through both sts on hook*, repeat *-* until end of row, end with a sc in last st. Turn. Row 3: Work a sc in each stitch. Repeat row 2 and 3 for loops on one side of piece. If you want loops on both sides repeat row 2 on every row.

Double Crochet cross stitch

Work on an even number of sts. Work cross dc's as follows: ch 3, * skip 1 st, 1 dc in next st, then 1 dc in st that was skipped *, repeat from *-* across row, end with a dc in last st. For a nice pattern work every other row with sc, and every other with cross dc's as we are showing in the video.

Broomstick lace

...aka jiffy lace or peacock eye crochet, a historic crochet technique from the 19th century. Created by using a crochet hook and a thick knitting needle. Traditionally a broomstick was used, but a big lightweight needle as the one we use in our video works better. The larger needle the lacier effect. The fabric created is soft yet stable, and well-suited for scarfs and blankets where an interesting lacy effect may be desired. The base of the pattern is a chain stitch. The number of ch stitches are normally multiples of 3 through 6, in our video we used 5. We start with 15 ch which is 3 times 5. Row 1: Pick up a loop through each of the ch stitches and transfer loops onto the needle. Row 2: Work sts from the needle by sliding them off in groupings of 5 at a time and working the 5 single crochet stitches through the top of each group of loops at the same time. Row 3: Pick up a loop through each of the sc and transfer them onto the needle. Repeat row 2-3.

Rib - crochet horizontal

We show how to crochet an elastic rib edge, perfect as a hat edge or edge on socks. Ch a number of sts for desired width. Work 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, then work 1 sc in every ch across. We show how to crochet an elastic rib pattern. Ch a number of sts for desired width, should be a multiple of 2. Row 1: Work a dc in 3rd ch from hook, then work 1 dc in every ch across. Row 2: ch 2, *dc in front post (dcfp), dc in back post (dcbp), repeat from * across, hdc in last st. Row 3: ch 2, *dc in back post, dc in front post, repeat from * across, hdc in last st. Repeat row 2 and 3 for rib pattern.

Crochet: Catherine Wheel stitch

When you work this pattern the way we do in this DROPS Video, you need to start with a multiple of 10 + 2 ch. In our smaller sample we started with 22 ch. Row 1: starting in 2nd ch from hook work 2 sc, *skip 3 ch, 7 dc in next ch, skip 3 ch, sc in next 3 ch, rep from *, end with sc in last 2 ch on row, and in last pull through change color. Turn. Turn. Row 3: ch 3, 3 dc in ch-hole on prev row, sc in next 3 sc from prev row, *7 dc in next hole, sc in next 3 sc, rep from *, 4 dc in last hole and on last pull through change color. Turn. Row 4: ch 1, sc in 1st and 2nd st, *ch 3, dc in next 7 sts and wait with last pull through on each dc, then pull through all 8 sts on hook, ch 1 to secure, ch 3, 3 sc, rep from *, end with sc in last 2 sts. Very popular and fun crochet pattern. In this DROPS Video we show how to make it. Chain a multiples of 6 + 4, on our sample we chained 16. Work all rows from RS, without turning work after each row. Row 1: 1 dc in 4th ch, *ch 2, skip 2 ch, 2 dc in next ch, repeat from * across.
