In this DROPS video we show how you can crochet an edge with lobster stitch by turning the crochet hook. We have already crocheted some few lobster stitches. Work like this: * Insert hook in the single crochet from the row below, pull thread through and make the stitch a little loose, turn crochet hook 360 degrees clockwise, make 1 yarn over and pull through both stitches on hook *, repeat from *-*. Crochet border

Here is an example of how you can crochet a border round the edge of a piece. Crochet as follows: 1 sc in first st * ch 2, skip 2 sts in width/ 4 rows in height, 1 sc in next st *, repeat from *-*. Chain more or less sts, and skip more or less, depending on the border you want and what the pattern might call for.

Fan edging crochet

A cute and decorating edge, can be added on a crochet piece, or on a knitted piece, or crocheted and sewn on to a piece of fabric, like a towel. If working along a crochet edge you will need a number of sts that can be divided by 8 + 1. If working in the round you need a number of sts that can be divided in 8. On our sample we have 25 sts. Work like this: 1 sc, * skip 3 sts, 4 dc + ch 2 + 4 dc in next st, skip 3 sts, 1 sc in next st *, repeat from *-*.

How to crochet a simple, but nice edge with Buttonhole stitches

In this DROPS video we show how to crochet a simple, but nice edge with buttonhole stitches. Crochet the edge with a different color. We have already crocheted a swap with single crochet and started with 3 single crochet with the new color. * Insert the hook into the stitch in the row right below, yarn over and pull it through, slightly loose. Insert the hook through the next stitch, but 2 rows below, yarn over and pull it through, slightly loose. Insert the hook into the next stitch in the row below, yarn over and pull it through, slightly loose = 4 loops on hook. Yarn over and pull the thread through all 4 loops = a group of buttonholes stitches. Work 1 single crochet in the next stitch (the stitch above the last worked stitch), work 1 single crochet in each of the next 2 stitches *. Repeat *-*. We use the yarn DROPS Snow in the video.

How to get straight edges when crocheting

In this DROPS video we show how to avoid getting a wavy edge and small gaps in the edges. We often use 3 chain stitches at the beginning of each row when working double crochet back and forth to get the same height as a double crochet. These chain stitch can either be in addition to the double crochets on the row (this creates extra stitches and the edge becomes wavy) or the chain stitches counts as a double crochet (this will create a hole on every other row). This can be avoided by pulling out the 1st stitch on the row, holding this stitch firmly with your finger, moving the hook towards you and then under the long first stitch, insert the needle into the first stitch (on the 1st row work the needle under 2 threads), get the thread and work a regular treble crochet. This stitch will be slightly loose, but on the next row it will be fine. Work like this in every row. We use the yarn DROPS Snow in this video.

How to crochet around a thin steel wire

In this DROPS video we show how to crochet the last round of a hat where you also crochet around a thin steel wire. The brim will becomes a bit stiffer. Chooses whether you wants to use single or double steel wire. In this video we work with single crochet around with a double steel wire. Twist the steel wire ends together a few times and put them at the edge. Fasten with the thread end while sewing over the steel wire ends so that they do not appear. How to crochet slip stitch around double crochet stitches

In this DROPS video, we show how we crochet slip stitches around double crochet stitches, so that a nice thick edge is formed. To emphasise the edge and give it a little weight, we crochet this round with double thread, while the rest of the work has been crocheted with 1 thread. How to work around a single crochet

In this video we show how you can make a decorative edge on a shawl made of treble crochet groups. EDGE: ROUND 1: Sl sts until 1st ch space, ch 1, 1 sc in same ch space, * ch 5, 1 sc in next ch space *, repeat from *-* the entire row. Continue to work along the diagonal edge as follows: Work * ch 5, 1 sc in next 4-ch space, ch 5, 1 sc in next tr *, repeat from *-* along both diagonal edges – NOTE: Work 1 sc, ch 5, 1 sc in the tip of shawl, finish with 1 sl st in 1st sc. Adapt the pattern so that the number of ch spaces are divisible by 2.
