How to crochet squares together with chain stitches and single crochet

In this DROPS video we show how you can crochet squares together with chain stitches and single crochet. Lay 2 squares together, wrong side to wrong side, and work through both layers like this: 1 single crochet around the chain stitches in the corner, * 4 chain stitches, skip 3 double crochets (= double crochet groups) and crochet 1 single crochet between 2 double crochets groups, *, work from *-* up to and including the next corner, work 1 chain stitch (transition to the next 2 squares), work 1 single crochet around the corner on the next square. Work from *-* until the row has been worked together. Cut the strand, then work the squares together in width in the same way. We use the yarn DROPS Paris in the video. This technique is used in several patterns - you can find patterns by clicking on the pictures below:

Squares - crochet together

Crochet squares together edge to edge. Crochet 1 sc in the corner of first piece, ch 2, 1 sc in corner on next piece, *ch 4, 1 sc diagonally back in 1st piece, ch 2 across to 2nd piece, 1 sc in 2nd piece*, repeat *-*.

Granny squares - crochet together

Work 1 sc in the ch-space in the corner on one square, ch 2, 1 sc in the ch-space in the corner on the other square, * ch 4, 1 sc in next ch-space on the first square, ch 2, 1 sc in next ch-space on the other square *, repeat from *-*. Work squares tog first at length and then across. Note - the number of chain sts between squares may differ from pattern to pattern, depending on thickness of yarn etc. This shows the technique though.

How to crochet squares together with slip stitches

In this DROPS video we show how to crochet squares together with slip stitches. Crochet the squares together by crocheting in the outermost loop of stitches in each of the squares. How to crochet 2 squares together after chart

In this DROPS video we show how to crochet 2 squares together after a chart, like it is done to the bag in DROPS 175-17. These squares are also used in the blanket in DROPS 175-16. Crochet pieces together

At the heel on a slipper or at the top of a hood for example we sometimes tell in the pattern to fold piece double and crochet together the piece through both the layers. This video shows you how we mean you should do it. The technique is also great for crocheting shoulders together.

How to sew the seam under raglan sleeve (Kitchener sts, grafting, weaving).

In this DROPS video we show two ways of how to sew together the hole under the sleeves in a jumper/jacket with raglan. First, we show how to sew together so we get an invisible seam. Remember not to tighten the thread and sew from RS. Stitches should be same size as the knitted stitches. At thicker yarn it avoids that it becomes a thick seam on the back. Then we show how to sew together by sewing together the seam in the inner loops of edge sts. You get a thicker stitching on the outside, but it will not show up when it comes under arm. How to crochet together a scrunchy

In this DROPS video we show how we crochet the cast-on and bind-off edges together and sew them edge to edge, used in DROPS 209-13 and 209-14. We use the yarn DROPS Merino Extra Fine in the video, the same yarn used in DROPS 209-14. You must read a scrunchy pattern to be able to follow this video properly. How to crochet a flounce edge to a garment with a lace pattern

In this DROPS video we show how to crochet a flounce edge to a garment. Work from the wrong side, fasten the strand with a single crochet around a decrease in the lace pattern, insert the hook through the garment (from the wrong side to the right side - the strand stays on the wrong side), then insert the hook between the 2 outermost double crochets on the flounce and then back through to the wrong side of the garment, make 1 yarn over and pull the strand through the loops on the hook so the flounce is attached to the yoke *, work 8 chain stitches (on the wrong side of the garment), skip to the next decrease on the garment, insert the hook through the garment (from the wrong side to the right side - the strand stays on the wrong side), then insert the hook between the 6th and 7th double crochet after the last time the flounce was attached to the garment, and then back to the wrong side of the garment, make 1 yarn over and pull the strand through the loops on the hook so the flounce is attached to the yoke *, repeat from *-*. It is important the seam is not tight as this will make the garment less elastic. We use the yarn DROPS Snow in the video. How to sew invisible grafting stitches

In this DROPS video we show how you can sew invisible grafting stitches on a knitted garment. This is a perfect technique for e.g. a shoulder seam. Sew from RS. Stitches should be same size as the knitted stitches. You must read the pattern to be able to follow. You’ll find patterns where you can use this technique by clicking on the pictures below.

Mattress stitches

A common way of seaming together side-to-side pieces - like side seams on sweaters. In the video we use a contrasting color yarn so it's easy to see what we are doing. If the tail from casting on is long enough use it to seam. Mattress stitching is done in the space between the edge stitch and the stitch next to it. Lay the pieces side by side with the right side facing you. Pull the edge stitch slightly away from the stitch next to it so that you can see the bar between the edge st and the next st. Insert your yarn needle under the bar. Pull the yarn through the bar and then insert the needle under the bar on the other piece. Work back and forth, inserting the needle under the bar on one piece then the other piece. After every other inch you can pull the yarn in the direction of the seam and the pieces will be joined with an invisible seam.

How to sew invisible grafting / kitchener stitch in the bind off edge from wrong side

In this DROPS video we show how to sew an invisible seam in the bind off edge from wrong side (same technique can also be used when sewing cast on and cast off edge together). Put the pieces with the wrong side together, edge to edge. Fasten the thread by sewing the two corners together twice. Put the needle in the outermost loop of the outermost stitch on the first piece (down and up), then sew in the outermost loop of the outermost stitch on the second piece (down and up), continue sewing every other part, down and up. We use the yarn DROPS Snow in the video.

Knit two parts together with an invisible seam. Perfect for the top of the toes on a sock, shoulders etc. Have your sts on each needle with right sides out. Working yarn attached in the back piece. Following 4 steps are being repeated: 1. go purl-wise into first st on front needle, pull yarn through, lift st off needle 2. go knit-wise into next st on front needle, pull yarn through (leave st on needle) 3. go knit wise into first st on back needle, pull yarn through, lift st off needle 4. go purl-wise into next st on back needle, pull yarn through (leave st on needle)

Kitchener sts, grafting, weaving

Sew two parts together with an invisible seam. Perfect for the top of the toes on a sock, shoulders etc. Have your sts on each needle with right sides out. Working yarn attached in the back piece. Start: pull needle and yarn through st on front needle purl-wise, then pull needle with yarn through first st on back needle knit-wise. Tighten thread - you are ready to go. Following 4 steps are being repeated: 1. go knit-wise into first st on front needle, lift st off needle 2. go purl-wise into next st on front needle, pull yarn through (leave st on needle) 3. go purl wise into first st on back needle, lift st off needle 4. go knit-wise into next st on back needle, pull yarn through (leave st on needle) Think "knit, purl. purl, knit", always starting on the front needle.

Sew together pieces knit in garter

This is how we sew together two pieces to make an invisible seam. Sew 1 stitch through the bump, and then one stitch between bumps, sew back and forth from the right side of work.

How to sew together bind off edge in garter stitches

In this DROPS video we show 2 ways to sew together a piece worked in garter stitches. Fold the piece, RS against RS and sew the bind off edge together in the outermost loop so the seam is flat. 1. Insert the needle in the outermost loop of first stitch towards you then into the outermost loop of first stitch away from you then into the outermost loop of the next stitch away from you and into the outermost loop of next stitch towards you and repeat this. We also show result of this technique looks like with a darker color. 2. How to sew together 2 pieces with an I-cord bind off
