Similar cast on technique as you use on a long tail cast on, but here we are working with 3 strands in different colors. First make a slipknot to hold all three strands together (the slipknot is untied when finished cast on). We will use one color as the edging and this strand goes around the thumb, and the other 2 colors will be alternated in the new sts as shown in video.
Perfect start on a diagonal striped piece, like a cuff or hem, on a fair isle pattern that starts immediately after cast on, or for twined knitting.
