How to crochet squares together with chain stitches and single crochet

In this DROPS video we show how you can crochet squares together with chain stitches and single crochet. Lay 2 squares together, wrong side to wrong side, and work through both layers like this: 1 single crochet around the chain stitches in the corner, * 4 chain stitches, skip 3 double crochets (= double crochet groups) and crochet 1 single crochet between 2 double crochets groups, *, work from *-* up to and including the next corner, work 1 chain stitch (transition to the next 2 squares), work 1 single crochet around the corner on the next square. Work from *-* until the row has been worked together. Cut the strand, then work the squares together in width in the same way. We use the yarn DROPS Paris in the video. How to knit up stitches for the neck to a sweater with European shoulder

In this DROPS video we show how to knit up stitches around the neck to a sweater with a European shoulder, using a knitting needle or a crochet hook. Then follow the description in the pattern. There are many different ways to work a rib (e.g knit 1 / purl 1, knit 2 / purl 2, knit 1 twisted / 1 purl etc.). And you can work a single neck, double neck or a high neck. In this video we work a double neck with a rib worked like this: knit 2, purl 2, bind off with knit over knit and purl over purl and then fold the neck double to the inside and fasten down. In this video we work with 2 yarn qualities: DROPS Lima color no. 9029 sage green and DROPS Kid-Silk color no. 45 soft mint, needle size 5 MM = US 8. How to work German Short Rows – with a double stitch back and forth on the needle

German short rows = The work is turned in the middle of a row. When working short rows, there will be a small hole - this can be closed by tightening the thread or using the German short row technique. Row 1 (= right side): Knit until where the piece is to be turned, turn, when it is knitted further there will be a small hole at the turn - this hole can be closed like this: Row 2 (= wrong side): Slip the 1st stitch from the left needle as if to purl, have the thread at the front towards you, place the thread over the right needle and tighten the thread well before purling the next stitch = the first stitch on the right needle has now become a double stitch (with a stitch and a thread). Purl until where the work is to be turned. Turn the work. Row 3 (= right side): Slip the 1st stitch from the left needle as if to purl, have the thread at the front towards you, place the thread over the right needle and tighten the thread well before knitting the next stitch = the first stitch on the right needle has now become a double stitch. Knit until the double stitch from the previous row and knit the double stitch so that the thread that was placed over the needle and the stitch is knitted together = 1 stitch. Knit until where the work is to be turned. Turn the work. Row 4 (= wrong side): Slip the 1st stitch from the left needle as if to purl, have the thread at the front towards you, place the thread over the right needle and tighten the thread well before purling the next stitch = the first stitch on the right needle has now become a double stitch. Purl until the double stitch from the previous row and purl the double stitch so that the thread that was placed over the needle and the stitch is purled together = 1 stitch. Beginner knitter

This video show you everything from cast on, knit your stitches back and forth, and to end your piece with bind off. Mastering these techniques is the start of many exciting projects as your first dish cloth, potholder or headband... When knitting all sts on every row, it's called garter stitch. Cast on - continental method

There are different methods to cast on. This one is the most common that gives a firm but still elastic edge. It’s called the continental method. The cast on should be firm but not too hard. If you feel it becomes too tight you can use larger needles or cast on around two needles and then pull one needle out afterwards. Remember to use the correct needles when starting your knitting.

Fair Isle - 2 color knitting - continental

In this video we are following a chart back and forth on needles, knitting with two colors. The color that not is knitted is following behind the work when knitting RS rows. Make sure it's not too tight or too loose. If more than 3 sts in a row of one of the colors, then twist the yarns for every 3 sts, by picking up the working yarn alternately above and under the yarn following on the back. When working WS rows have the yarn following in front of work, again make sure you have the right tension on the thread. Note - if a color not is used all the way at the end of the row, you can drop it, but if it will be used at the beginning of the next row, then keep carry it a long by twisting around the working yarn. Don't worry if it's a bit uneven, it will even out a lot when blocking.

Purl (P) - continental

The opposite of the knit stitch is a purl stitch. If you knit all rows back and forth you will get what’s called garter stitch, if you alternate between one row with knitted stitches and one row of purled stitches you will get what’s called stockinette stitch. The method of making purl stitches that we are showing here is the continental method.

Purl (P) - US/UK method

The English method of purl stitches creates exactly the same stitch, but doing this you hold the working yarn in your right hand. Lay the yarn around the needle with your right hand.

Stockinette/stocking stitch

Stockinette is the most common technique to create an even surface on the outside of your garment. Working back and forth on the needles as we do in the video, you knit all sts on all rows from right side. On the wrong side rows you purl all stitches. When working in the round on circular needles or sock needles, you knit all sts on every round.
