Thumb on a knitted mitten

We show you how to first increase for the thumb gusset by making 1 yo each side of a marked stitch, on next round work yo's in back loop to avoid holes. On following round repeat inc and then work a couple of rounds in stockinette (or as indicated in the pattern). When gusset is done put all inc sts on a cable needle or waste yarn, cast on a new stitch (or number of sts indicated in pattern) behind these sts and continue in the round. When hand is done put back the thumb sts on a needle, pick up sts in the edge behind these and knit thumb in the round. At desired length K2 tog all the way round. Cut the thread and pull it through remaining sts, tighten and fasten.

Tumb gusset on a knitted mitten

In this DROPS Video we show how many of our popular gloves are knitted. Below is a diagram of the entire mitten and a diagram of the thumb. We have knitted after the large chart to where we should start increasing for the thumb (the black squares in the large diagram). You will then knit by the large chart and the small diagram (thumb). When you have done all increases in thumb chart, put x-number of stitches (the number that is in the pattern) on a holder. Now cast on x-number of stitches (the number that is in the pattern) behind the thumb and now knit the mitten after the large chart. When finished knitted mitten, put sts from the holder back on needle, knit up x-number of stitches (the number that is in the pattern) behind the thumb and then work after the thumb chart. How to work an easy thumb

In this DROPS video we show how to work an easy thumb to a mitten. We knit a marking thread (pastel pink) for the thumb opening when we work the mitten. Then we pull out the thread and place the stitches on double pointed needles. In addition, we also knit up new stitches on each sides (read pattern for how many stitches), then work the thumb finish. We use the yarn DROPS Snow in the video. You must read a pattern with this technique to be able to follow this video properly. You’ll find a pattern by clicking on one of the pictures below.

How to work the textured pattern in DROPS 209-11

In this DROPS video we show how we work the textured pattern after chart A.1a, A.1b and A.1c to the «Crisp Morning Rain» neck warmer in DROPS 209-11. How to knit A.3 in DROPS 181-35

In this DROPS video we show how to knit after chart A.3 that is used in the neck warmer in the “Silver Leaf” set in DROPS 181-35. In this DROPS video we show how we knit after diagram A.3, which is used in the neck of the «Silver Leaf» set in DROPS 181-35. We have already knitted a rib and start the video with 1 round of A.3. We show 1 report of A.3 in the 6 first rounds, then we show 1 report of A.3 on the 14th and 15th round and finally we show 1 report of A.3 in the 24th round (remember the black square in the chart is not a mask, but skip this square). This neck warmer is knitted in DROPS Merino Extra Fine, but in the video we work with a thicker yarn; DROPS Snow. Finger and Arm knitted neckwarmer

In this DROPS video we show how to finger knit two skeins Big Delight and then we arm knit a neckwarmer out of the new finger knitted skein. Cast on 7 stitches and arms knit 17-19 rows (depending on your gauge / size of your wrist). Bind offoff and sew short sides tog edge to edge, and voila, you have a great neckwarmer.

How to work a helmet hat

In this DROPS video we show how we work a helmet hat. We work the smallest size in DROPS 204-21. We have already cast on 68 stitches and knitted 1 round. READ the pattern for more instructions. You’ll find patterns by clicking on one off the pictures below. This helmet hat is worked in DROPS Snow, the same yarn we use in the video.

Lace pattern (150-42)

In this video we show how to knit this beautiful lace pattern following the chart, and with 2 edge sts in garter st according to the pattern. We have already worked 1 repeat of the chart in height to make it easier to see the lace pattern. We are now working 1 repeat in height following the chart in the pattern; K2 edge sts, now start again in the lower right corner of the chart A.1 (consisting of 2 sts), continue with A.2 (consisting of 6 sts) and repeat A.2 (3 times in the video) until7 sts remain on row, now work A.3 (consisting of 5 sts) and finally K2 edge sts. We show all pattern rows worked from RS according to the chart, and several rows worked from WS (with 2 K sts each side). To see this lace pattern, see: DROPS 150-42 or the picture to the left.

Cable and short rows in DROPS 131-47
