Increase – with yo (yarn over)

This is an increase that creates a decorative hole. In the video we show 2 times how you increase 1 stitch by making a yarn over (yo) Halfway through the video we have turned the work and show you how to work the yo in front or back loop depending if you prefer a larger or smaller hole. When working the back loop the stitch becomes twisted and this way the hole becomes a bit smaller.

Increase - M1 (make one)

This video shows an almost invisible method to increase (inc) 1 stitch. Right side: from front lift up the thread between two stitches with left needle, and knit 1 stitch in the back loop. Increase in purl stitches

Our video is showing a K2 P2 rib where the P2 inc to P3. From RS pick up the yarn between K1 P1. Purl this stitch twisted, i.e. purl in the back loop of the stitch.

Yarn Over when purling

When you are told to make a yarn over (yo) on the purl side of your work, you make the yo exactly as when done on the right side. In this DROPS Video we show how to do so. On the next row you can create a hole by working into the front loop of the yarn over. Then we show again how to make the yarn over on purl side, and then on next row we work into the back loop to show how the yo (increase) that way can become invisible, and not create a hole.

Increase - using loop under

Here is a great almost invisible method to increase by knitting a new stitch in the loop from the stitch on previous row. You can do it after or before a stitch just as we show in the video. Right side: put your left needle through stitch 2 rows below the stitch on the right needle. Lift it up on your left needle and knit it in the back loop. Left side: put your right needle into the stitch under the first stitch on your left needle. Pick up the loop and put it on your left needle. Knit this new stitch in the front loop, and also knit following stitch separate as usual. This is also a great method when you need to inc two stitches right next to each other, without having to work a stitch between them. You can knit 1, make a inc in the st below, then make an inc in the st below next st, then knit that st.

Increase – KFB (knit front back)

When you want to shape a piece and make it larger you add stitches, you increase (inc). Most common is to make your increases on rows from right side (RS). There are many different ways to increase. In this video we are inc 1 stitch by knitting 2 stitches in 1 stitch.

Increase - M1 (make one) with loop

A common and very easy method to increase 1 stitch – there will be a little hole. In our video we show twice how you make a loop on right needle with the working thread away from you. You can make the increased stitch lean in different directions. If you want the inc stitch to lean to the left you make a loop on right needle with the working thread towards you.

Increase in English rib

This video show how to increase with yarn overs in each side of piece knitted in English rib. The yo are worked into the pattern, and you will get an additional "rib stripe" in each side first after increasing 2 sts each side. In our video we inc on row 1 and on 2nd row we show how to work yo twisted (in back loop). On 5th row we inc again and on 6th row we work yo twisted and also work new sts into rib pattern. How to increase in English rib patternby making several stitches in 1 stitch

In this DROPS video we show how to work the increase in a English rib pattern by making several stitches in 1 stitch , this technique is used in the sweater in DROPS 194-13. NB! Even if our sample is worked back and forth, all rows have been worked from RS. On 1st round in the video, we knit a little bit of the 3. Round explanation of the Fisherman rib, both before and after the increase. Increase like this: Work 5 stitches in the stitch and the yarn over as follows: * Knit the yarn over and stitch together, but wait with slipping the stitch and yarn over off the needle, make 1 yarn over the right needle *, knit from * - * a total of 2 times and knit the stitch and yarn over 1 more time = 5 stitches (= 4 stitches increased). On next round (= 2nd round of explanation of English rib), the increased works into the English rib pattern. There is no yarn over in the increase, so the stitch that is to be worked with the yarn over is knit without yarn over. Next round work as 3rd round of Englsih rib. How to increase 4 stitches in Fisherman`s rib

In this DROPS video we show how we work 5 stitches in a Fisherman`s rib stitch (= knit in the stitch under the next stitch and increase 4 stitches). We show it twice in the video and work like this: Knit 1, but do not slip the stitch from the needle, * make 1 yarn over the right needle, knit the same stitch without slipping it off the left needle *, work from *-* a total of 2 times, then slip the stitch off the left needle = 5 stitches (4 stitches increased). How to knit in stitch below and how to increase 4 stitches in 1 stitch

In this DROPS video we show how to knit 1 stitch below next stitch and how to increase 4 stitches in 1 stitch. These charts are taken from DROPS 201-40, but the same technique is used in many other patterns. We start the video by showing how we work chart A.1 and then especially how we knit 1 stitch below next stitch and name it an English rib stitch. We show 1st round of A.1 4 times. On 2nd round of diagram purl all sts. When we work A.2 we show how to knit 5 stitches in the English rib stitch as follows: Knit 1, but wait to slip the stitch off the needle, * make 1 yarn over on right needle, knit same stitch without slipping the stitch off left needle *, work from *-* 2 times in total, then drop this stitch off left needle = 5 stitches (i.e. 4 stitches increased). Then we show how chart A.3 is worked. We use the yarn DROPS Snow in the video. This yarn is quite thick, but if you knit with a thinner yarn the increase in the English rib stitch will be better. How to increase in an outermost stitch

In this DROPS video we show how we increase in an outermost stitch. First, we show how we increase before the maker-thread, then after the marker-thread. Increase before maker-thread: Work to the marker-thread, knit 1 in the strand of the stitch lying 2 rounds below outermost stitch on the right needle. In some of our patterns we work with 2 strands of the yarn held together, and then we tell to increase by working the 2 strands from 1 stitch separately.
