How to work an I-cord edge, back and forth

In this DROPS video we show how to work an I-cord edge both from the right side and from the wrong side. In this video the 6 first / 6 last stitches after the I-cord edge are worked in garter stitches (= the stitches are knitted on every row). At the beginning of the row from the right side, work like this: Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with strand in front, knit 1, work 6 garter stitches. Work stockinette stitch. At the end of the row from the right side, work like this: Work 6 garter stitches, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with strand in front, knit 1. At the beginning of the row from the wrong side, work like this: Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with strand in front, knit 1, work 6 garter stitches. Work stockinette stitch. At the end of the row from the wrong side, work like this: Work 6 garter stitches, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with strand in front, knit 1. We use the yarn DROPS Snow in the video. This technique is used in several patterns - you can find patterns by clicking on the pictures below:

Stockinette/stocking stitch

Stockinette is the most common technique to create an even surface on the outside of your garment. Working back and forth on the needles as we do in the video, you knit all sts on all rows from right side. On the wrong side rows you purl all stitches. When working in the round on circular needles or sock needles, you knit all sts on every round.

Garter stitch

When working garter stitch back and forth on needle you knit the stitches on every row. This is what we are showing in this video, using the continental method of knit stitches. When working garter in the round on a circular needle or sock needles you will have to knit one round, then purl one round, and then repeat these two rounds alternating. Note! When working in garter st your gauge i.e number of rows in height, will increase compared to working in stockinette.

This is how you work garter stitch in the round on a circular needle. Purl one round, knit one round, purl one round and then knit one... repeat this for garter.

Ribbing K1,P1

Working in rib gives an elastic piece that is great for cuffs and edges. It’s important that all knitted stitches comes above knitted stitches, and all purled stitches come above the purled stitches. In the video we are knitting 1 and purling 1 (K1, P1). 1st row (RS): K1, P1, continue like this until end of row, turn. 2nd row (WS): P1 above P1, K1 above K1. Continue like this until end of row, turn. Repeat 1st and 2nd row until rib has desired measure in height.

Cable over 4 sts without cable needle

When you knit cables you don't necessary need to use a cable needle ... The video shows you how to cable to right and left without one. Cable turning right: yarn in front of work, slip 2 sts onto right needle, yarn to back of work, K2, from behind pick up the 2 slipped sts on left needle, drop the first 2 sts on right needle + 2 slipped sts and then put the first two sts back on right needle again, yarn to back of work and K2. Cable turning left: slip 2 sts, K2, from front pick up the 2 slipped sts on left needle, drop the first 2 sts on right needle + 2 slipped sts and then put the first two sts back on right needle again, K2.

Chart A.2 in DROPS 170-32 and DROPS 170-8

In this DROPS video we show how to work the lace pattern after chart A.2 for the top in DROPS 170-32 and the jumper in DROPS 170-8. In this video we have already worked a mini-top in stocking st with 2 st in garter st in each side. The chart is worked back and forth. How to knit English Rib

In this DROPS video we show how to knit English rib. Large fluffy rib, identical on both sides. Great for scarves, blankets etc. Back and forth on needles, using an uneven number of sts. 1st row: 1 edge st in garter, *K1, yo, slip 1 st as if purled*, rep *-*, end with K1, 1 edge st in garter. 2nd row: 1 edge st in garter, *yo, slip 1 st as if purled, K next st and yo tog*, rep *-*, end with yo, slip 1 st as if purled, 1 edge st in garter. 3rd row: 1 edge st in garter, *K next st and yo tog, yo, slip 1 st as if purled *, rep *-*, end with K next st and yo tog, 1 edge st in garter. How to knit English rib in the round

In this DROPS video we show how to knit English rib in the round. Cast on an even number of sts on a circular needle ROUND 1: * 1 YO, slip 1 st as if to P, K 1 *, repeat from *-*. ROUND 2: * P tog YO and slipped st, 1 YO, slip 1 st as if to P *, repeat from *-*. ROUND 3: * 1 YO, slip 1 st as if to P, K tog YO and slipped st *, repeat from *-*. Repeat 2nd and 3rd round upwards. Seed/Moss stitch

Row 1 (the right side): knit 1 stitch, purl 1 stitch Row 2 (the wrong side): purl over knitted stitch, knit over purled stitch Repeat row 2. A purled stitch looks like a knot, a knitted stitch looks like a V.

Seed/Moss st in the round

When you are working seed st in the round on a circular needle or double pointed needles it's a great idea to work with an uneven number of sts. You will then get a good transition between K and P sts all the way around, and the beginning of the round will be invisible, You work alternating K1 and P1 around and around. On next round you will then automatically work K over P and P over K, which is what seed st is all about. Happy seed st knitting!

Seed Stitch: Double in height

There are many varieties of Seed stitch and Double Seed stitch (aka moss stitch). Here we show a version which is worked with alternating K1 and P1 in width. But K2 and P2 over each other in height. We work 1 edge st each side in garter st (K on all rows). For the pattern to be visible, we have worked about 2"/5 cm before we continue as follows: SEED ST - DOUBLE IN HEIGHT: (remember K1 edge st each side) Row 1: * K1, P1 *, repeat from * - *. 2nd row: K over K and P over P. How to work a rib (knit 1, purl 1) around with circular needles

In this DROPS video we show how to work a rib with knit 1, purl 1 on circular needle. Working a rib gives an elastic piece that is great for cuffs and edges. Cast on a number of stitches that is divisible by 2, then put the circular needle “together” and start with knit 1 (the first stitch that was cast on), purl 1, knit 1, purl 1, etc. the entire round (you can also start with purl 1, knit 1, etc.). When the 2nd round starts knit 1, purl 1, knit 1, purl etc. It’s important that all knitted stitches comes above knitted stitches, and all purled stitches come above the purled stitches. How to work a rib with Knit 2 – Purl 2 and Knit 2 twisted – Purl 2

In this DROPS video we show how you can work a rib. Working a rib gives an elastic piece that is great for cuffs and edges. Often worked with Knit 1 / Purl 1 or Knit 2 / Purl 2. It’s important that all knitted stitches comes above knitted stitches, and all purled stitches come above the purled stitches. First, we show a rib with Knit 2 / Purl 2, then a rib with Knit 2 twisted / Purl 2. To get the twisted stitch, knit the stitch in the back loop. We show both techniques on the same piece so that you can more easily see the difference. We use the yarn DROPS Snow in the video. How to work an easy and nice texture pattern.

In this DROPS video we show how to work an easy and nice texture pattern, such as the rib to the Rose Blush vest in DROPS 212-44. Work like this: From RS: Work 3 edge stitches in garter stitch, * 2 stitches in stockinette stitch , 2 stitches in garter stitch *, work from *-* until there are 5 stitches left, 2 stitches in stockinette stitch and finish with 3 edge stitches in garter stitch. From WS: Work 3 edge stitches in garter stitch, * 2 stitches in stockinette stitch , 2 stitches in garter stitch *, work from *-* until there are 5 stitches left, 2 stitches in stockinette stitch and finish with 3 edge stitches in garter stitch. Continue like this to desired length. Ridge/garter stitch: Knit all rows. We use the yarn DROPS Snow in the video. You must read a pattern with this technique to be able to follow this video properly. You’ll find a pattern by clicking on the picture below.

Smock pattern knitted

By smocking you create a raised diamond pattern. On our sample we cast on 22 sts. We work with multiples of 3 + 1. row 1 RS: K1, *P2, K1*, repeat *-* when 3 sts remain P2, K1. row 2 WS: K1, *K2, P1*, repeat *-* when 3 sts remain K2, K1. Repeat row 1-2 for rib pattern. 1st smock row, work next row from RS: K1, *P2, stick in the needle after next 4 sts, after 2nd K st, pick up the yarn, place loop on left needle, K loop and first st tog, P2, K1*, repeat *-* when 3 sts remain P2, K1. Work 5 rows in rib as before. 2nd smock row, work next row from RS: * stick in the needle after next 4 sts, after 2nd K st, pick up the yarn, place loop on left needle, K loop and first st tog, P2, K1, P2*, repeat *-* when 4 sts remain: pick up the yarn after the last 4 sts, place loop on left needle, K loop and first st tog, P2, K1. Work 5 rows in rib as before. Repeat smocking rows alternately on every 6th row.
