Toe on a knitted sock

Basic decrease for toe, one of many variations. We insert a marker each side with same number of sts on needles on upper and under foot. Then dec for toe on each side of both markers and 2 K sts each side as follows – beg 3 sts before end of needle in first side: slip 1 st, K1, pass slipped st over, place marker, K1, on next needle K1, K2 tog. Repeat the dec on each side of foot on every row as in video, or on every other row for a longer toe, until 8 sts left on needle. Cut the thread, pull through remaining sts and fasten.

How to work a sock with a diagonal heel

In this DROPS video we show you how to work a heel with a diagonal line from the heel towards the top of the foot This is achieved by working short rows. 1. First you work short rows across the top of the heel, then across the bottom of the heel, finishing by working in the round across all stitches and working towards the toe. 2. The stitches on the top of the foot are placed on a thread/stitch holder and you only work the heel-stitches. Work until there is 1 stitch left on the row. Turn, slip the first stitch on the left needle onto the right needle, tighten the strand and work back. Work like this back and forth, working 1 less stitch on each row and working to the stated stitch-count. 3. Continue back and forth but now working 1 more stitch on each row across the heel stitches. To avoid holes each time you turn, pick up the horisontal strand before the next stitch and place it twisted on the left needle, then work this together with the next stitch on the left needle. Turn, slip the first stitch on the left needle onto the right needle, tighten the strand and work back. Work like this back and forth until you have worked all the heel-stitches. 4. Place the stitches from the thread/stitch holder back onto the needles. 5. Continue in the round to the given length.

How to knit a sock with a gusset heel – short overview

In this DROPS video, we show you how to knit a sock with a gusset heel - arguably the most common method for working a heel. To begin, the stitches on top of the foot are placed on a thread, while the stitches at the back are kept on the needles and the heel is worked as follows: 1) The heel is first worked in height, back and forth across the heel-stitches. 2) Next, the bottom of the heel is worked to the required width and length by working short rows and decreasing stitches. 3) Once this step is completed, continue knitting in the round across all stitches, knitting up stitches on both sides of the heel (along the length). 4) The width and shape of the foot is worked by decreasing stitches on both sides, forming a small gusset heel – that is why this type of heel is known as a gusset heel.

How to knit a sock with a square heel

In this DROPS video, we show you how to knit a sock with a square heel. The stitches on top of the foot are placed on a thread, while the stitches at the back are kept on the needles and the heel is worked as follows (the heel extends under the foot): 1) The heel is worked back and forth across the heel-stitches to achieve the correct height. For this type of heel, the length reaches midway under the heel. 2) Next, the heel is knitted together beneath the foot. 3) The sock is then continued in the round, with stitches picked up along both sides of the heel length, working towards the toe. 4) This heel creates a square shape, which is why this type of heel is known as a square heel.

How to work a sock with a diamond heel

In this DROPS video we give you a short overview of how to work a sock with a diamond heel. All stitches remain on the needles while knitting the heel. To make the heel, follow these steps: 1. Knit in the round, gradually increasing stitches at the back of the sock until the desired width and length of the heel have been achieved. 2. Decrease the heel stitches while continuing to knit in the round. 3. Continue knitting towards the toe. 4. The combination of increases and decreases forms a diamond-shaped section at the back of the sock, which is why this type of heel is called a diamond heel.

How to knit a sock with a gusset heel (basic method)

In this DROPS video we show how to knit a gusset heel on a sock following a basic method. Knit the heel sts in the back in stockinette st back and forth on needles for 5-6 cm/2-2½ inches. Start dec on next row from RS. Knit row until in pattern mentioned numbers of sts remain, K2 tog into back of loop, turn piece. Knit WS row until in pattern mentioned numbers of sts remain, P2 tog, turn piece. Continue back and forth dec like this with 1 less st remaining each time before working 2 sts tog. After heel dec pick up in pattern mentioned numbers of sts on each side of heel and continue in stockinette st in the round on all needles again. You must read the pattern to be able to follow. How to work heel with a thread

How to knit with 2 threads to get a stronger heel - knitting tip

In this DROPS video we show how to get a stronger heel on a sock by knitting with 2 threads. Use strand inside and outside of ball (or use 2 balls) and work 1 stitch alternately with one and the other strand. This way you get a thicker heel without working with double strand. In the video, we already have knitted the rib and put the stitches mid on top of foot on a stitch holder and we show 2 rows where we knit with 2 strands. These socks are knitted in DROPS Karisma, but in video we use a thicker yarn; DROPS Snow. You must read the pattern to be able to follow this video properly. How to work an angular heel

In this DROPS video we show how to work a angular heel on a sock. We have already worked the beginning and start the video by cutting the thread and divides the stitches to the heel and the top of the foot.
