Cast on new sts at side of work

The video is showing two techniques of casting on new sts at the side of your work e.g. when we are knitting a front piece and sleeves in one, and cast on new sts each side for the sleeves. First we cast on with loops, which is the easiest. It creates a loose edge which is ok if it will be seamed afterward like a sleeve seam. The next method is cable cast on also called knitted cast on, which is a great way when you want a firm nice edge.

The video above can be used in the following patterns

I am not a spammer but need help with this pattern can you help?

Yvonne Hitchcock 19.11.2019 - 14:07:

Making pattern #208-1 for a man, there are no place to put markers for raglan and what does a-1 mean confusing. Thank you for your help.

DROPS Design 19.11.2019 - 14:40:

If you need markers to mark the raglan line, you can add - as suggested in first answer below markers before and after each A.1. Happy knitting!

YVonne Hitchcock 19.11.2019 - 14:03:

I find pattern confusing, how is raglan stitches marked what does a-1 mean using pattern #208-1

DROPS Design 19.11.2019 - 14:36:

Raglan stitches are worked following diagram A.1 - see previous answer, you will then increase with a yarn over before the first stitch in A.1 and after A.1 (= on either side of the 6 sts from diagram).

Yvonne Hitchcock 19.11.2019 - 14:00:

Knitting the carly pullover for a man sand there are no markers to put at raglan stitches also finding a -1 confusing. What does it mean and how is it done, no number of stitches between raglan is given, very confusing. Thank you for your help.

DROPS Design 19.11.2019 - 14:30:

Dear Mrs Hitchcock, in this pattern, A.1 is worked for the raglan line, you can add marker before and after each A.1 if you rather like to, so that you then know where you have to increase (= before the marker before A.1 and after the marker after A.1). A.1 is the name of the diagram worked over 6 stitches (= K1, P1, K2, P1, K1) - read more about diagrams here.

Buongiorno.

Buon lavoro!

Donna 05.06.2019 - 13:34:

Not finding this pattern easy to follow. Got the two legs done and little confusing after that doing on circular needles.

Dea 26.04.2019 - 13:47:

DROPS Design 14.12.2018 - 11:12:

Hej Christine, videoen beskriver bara hur man gör. Du måste titta i mönstret för hur många maskor du skall lägga upp. Lycka till!

Christine 26.09.2018 - 19:28:

Morag Hannan 01.02.2018 - 05:23:

I'm knitting Drops pattern Autumn Elegance jacket. I'm at the stage where I have to add 10 stitches at both ends of row for 2 rows. can I not just add 20 stitches at the each end of the first row? Not sure how I add new stitches on new stitches

DROPS Design 01.02.2018 - 08:56:

Dear Mrs Hannan, you are now increasing for sts on back piece, work 1 row from RS, at the end of this row cast on 10 new sts, turn and work next row from WS, at the end of this row cast on 10 new sts, turn (you have now 10 new sts on each side of piece for sleeves). Repeat this 2 rows one more time (= you have inc 10 sts 2 times on each side), then at the end of next 2 rows cast on the number of sts for your size (= 11-10-9-8-6-4). Happy knitting!

None of the videos work at all, no video or sound. Just shows the counter running at the bottom. Using Win 10 in IE11.

Ellen Rubin 25.10.2017 - 08:01:

This video is attached to the warm Banjo dog vest. I am knitting the vest. The pattern says after you put the 10 stitches from the holder back on, "in addition up two stitches"... does that mean cast on two stitches like in the video? Or am I supposed to pick up two from the back part of the vest?

DROPS Design 25.10.2017 - 09:08:

Dear Mrs Rubin, when you work under piece, slip the sts from st holder back on needle and pick up 2 sts in each side of the under piece, ie you pick up 2 sts behind (= at the back of) the 2 sts in garter st from over piece. Happy knitting!

Christina Leed 17.06.2017 - 11:41:

Hej Super video.

Anthonia 14.02.2017 - 16:32:

Thanks for your response. Your videos are great.

Anthonia 13.02.2017 - 17:58:

Can I use this increase for the raglan sleeves in the Petronella top (short sleeves)? Thanks a lot.

DROPS Design 14.02.2017 - 09:56:

Dear Anthonia, that's the way sts will be cast on under sleeve, after slipping sts for sleeve on a st holder, ie at the beg of BODY part. Happy knitting!
