Pattern instructions say cast off 4 stitches for under arm when dividing work for back and front sections, but instructions for under arm on sleeves say cast off 8 stitches, is this correct or should it be 4 stitches cast off for sleeve under arm?
10.01.2022 - 16:29DROPS Design answered:
Dear Joan, you cast off 4 stitches on each section on each side. So you cast off 4 for the front and 4 for the back on each side (=8 cast-off stitches). Happy knitting

After casting off 12 stitches (+5 steek) in center for neckline, do I then decrease 1 stitch each side of the castoffs for a total of 2/row? OR 2 STITCHES EACH side for a total of 4/row? Same question for back. Then on front, I can't figure out how to then decrease just 1 st 4 times since there are two sides to the neckline. Do I decrease 1 STITCH EACH SIDE for a total of 2 each row? I don't know how many stitches I'm suppose to end up with when I get to the shoulder seams. Help, please!

Dear Mary, you are right, cast offs (to shape the armhole) are done each side of the piece. Happy Knitting!

I have never made an "edge." beginning of pattern says to knit 1 1/8 inch white and switch to beige, then purl a row. I assume this row is on what would ordinarily be a knit row? At the end of this row do you switch back to white and purl back? Or? Thank you!
18.05.2021 - 04:59DROPS Design answered:
Hi Mary, This 'edge' is a coloured edge in off white, worked in stocking stitch for 1 1/8 inch. Then you change to beige, work 1 row in stocking stitch (purl from wrong side) and purl 1 row from the right side as you say. This row will be where you turn up the edge later, now you change back to off white and work another 1 1/8 inch before beginning the body. Happy knitting!

Dear Mrs Guenther, this video shows how to knit such a folded edge, the purl row should be purled from RS so that piece will fold nicely. This row should be worked with beige. To avoid cutting the white yarn to work this folding row, just continue afterwards with off-white (if last row off-white was worked from WS, work now next row from RS with off-white, ie slip all sts back to the other end of the needle and you will work 2 RS row next to each other. Happy knitting!

Jeg er i tvivl om forkanterne går helt ned langs kanten, eller om de først starter der hvor selve mønstret starter...kan ikke se det på billedet

DROPS jacket with pattern borders in “Safran”.

Pattern: See diagram M.1. The diagram shows the pattern from the RS side. Edge: Work 3 cm = 1⅛" stockinette st, change to beige, P 1 row (= folding edge, measure piece from here), change to off-white and work 3 cm = 1⅛" stockinette Body: The jacket is knitted round on circular needle after the Edge and cut mid front afterwards. Cast on 220-232-240 sts on circular needles size 2.5 mm = US 1,5 with off-white and work Edge – see above – back and forth on needle. Change to circular needle size 3.5 mm = US 4 and continue in the round and M.1, at the same time inc 36-40-48 sts evenly on first round + 5 sts mid front – these 5 sts are to be cut afterwards and are not included in pattern = 256-272-288 sts (+ 5 sts for cutting). Remember the knitting gauge! Continue in M.1. When piece measures 29-30-30 cm = 11⅜"-11¾"-11¾" bind off 4 sts each side for armhole (make sure to have the 5 inc sts mid front) = 124-132-140 + 5 sts on front piece and 124-132-140 sts on back piece. Now complete each piece separately. Front piece: = 124-132-140 sts (+ 5 sts). Dec to shape the armhole on every other row: 2 sts 1-3-3 times and 1 st 3-3-4 times = 114-114-120 sts (+ 5 sts). When piece measures 46-47-48 cm = 18"-18½"-19" bind off the middle 12-14-16 sts (+ 5 sts) for neck and dec to shape the neckline on every other row: 2 sts 6 times and 1 st 4 times. Bind off when piece measures 56-57-58 cm = 22"-22½"-22¾". Back piece: = 124-132-140 sts. Dec for armhole as described for front piece = 114-114-120 sts. When piece measures 54-55-56 cm = 21¼"-21⅝"-22" bind off the middle 40-42-44 sts for neck and dec 2 sts on neckline on next row. Bind off when piece measures 56-57-58 cm = 22"-22½"-22¾". Sleeve: Cast on 50-54-58 sts on double pointed needles size 2.5 mm = US 1,5 with off-white and work Edge. Change to double pointed needles size 3.5 mm = US 2,5, continue in M.1 (make sure to place a pattern repeat mid upper sleeve) and inc 12-8-6 sts evenly on first round = 62-62-64 sts. At the same time after the Edge inc 2 sts mid under arm a total of 31-31-32 times on every 3rd and 4th round alternately = 124-124-128 sts. When piece measures 45-46-46 cm = 17¾"-18"-18" bind off 8 sts mid under arm and continue back and forth on needle. Dec each side to shape the sleeve cap on every other row: 6 sts 8 times. Bind off, piece measures approx 51-52-52 cm = 20"-20½"-20½". Assembly: Insert a marking thread from top to bottom in the center of the inc sts mid front. Sew 2 seams on a sewing machine around the marking thread, 1st seam = ½ st from the MT, 2nd seam = ½ st from the 1st seam. Cut mid front. Sew the shoulder seams. Pick up approx 110 to 120 sts along left front piece on needle size 2.5 mm = US 1,5 with off-white and work edge back and forth on needle as follows: 3 cm = 1⅛" stockinette st, change to beige, 1 row stockinette st, P 1 row (= folding edge), change to off-white and work 3 cm = 1⅛" stockinette st, bind off. Repeat along right front piece, but after 1 cm = ⅜" make 5 buttonholes evenly distributed. 1 buttonhole = bind off 2 sts and cast on 2 new sts on return row – remember buttonholes on the piece in stockinette sts to be folded towards WS! Pick up approx 106 to 114 sts round the neck on needle size 2.5 mm = US 1,5 with off-white and work edge as described for front bands back and forth on needle. Fold all edges double towards the WS and fasten. Set in sleeves and sew on buttons. |
