Tips & Help

Thank you for choosing DROPS Design!

We do our best to make our patterns easy to follow.

For that purpose, each of our patterns has specific tutorial videos to help you, which you will find at the bottom of the page.

We have also step-by-step lessons to help you understand some of the techniques we use in our patterns. You'll find them here!

Pattern: See diagram M.1. The diagram shows the pattern from the RS side.
Edge: Work 3 cm stocking st, change to beige, P 1 row (= folding edge, measure piece from here), change to off-white and work 3 cm stocking

Body: The jacket is knitted round on circular needle after the Edge and cut mid front afterwards. Cast on 220-232-240 sts on circular needles size 2.5 mm with off-white and work Edge – see above – back and forth on needle. Change to circular needle size 3.5 mm and continue in the round and M.1, at the same time inc 36-40-48 sts evenly on first round + 5 sts mid front – these 5 sts are to be cut afterwards and are not included in pattern = 256-272-288 sts (+ 5 sts for cutting). Remember the knitting tension! Continue in M.1. When piece measures 29-30-30 cm cast off 4 sts each side for armhole (make sure to have the 5 inc sts mid front) = 124-132-140 + 5 sts on front piece and 124-132-140 sts on back piece. Now complete each piece separately.

Front piece: = 124-132-140 sts (+ 5 sts). Dec to shape the armhole on every other row: 2 sts 1-3-3 times and 1 st 3-3-4 times = 114-114-120 sts (+ 5 sts). When piece measures 46-47-48 cm cast off the middle 12-14-16 sts (+ 5 sts) for neck and dec to shape the neckline on every other row: 2 sts 6 times and 1 st 4 times. Cast off when piece measures 56-57-58 cm.

Back piece: = 124-132-140 sts. Dec for armhole as described for front piece = 114-114-120 sts. When piece measures 54-55-56 cm cast off the middle 40-42-44 sts for neck and dec 2 sts on neckline on next row. Cast off when piece measures 56-57-58 cm.

Sleeve: Cast on 50-54-58 sts on double pointed needles size 2.5 mm with off-white and work Edge. Change to double pointed needles size 3.5 mm, continue in M.1 (make sure to place a pattern repeat mid upper sleeve) and inc 12-8-6 sts evenly on first round = 62-62-64 sts. At the same time after the Edge inc 2 sts mid under arm a total of 31-31-32 times on every 3rd and 4th round alternately = 124-124-128 sts. When piece measures 45-46-46 cm cast off 8 sts mid under arm and continue back and forth on needle. Dec each side to shape the sleeve cap on every other row: 6 sts 8 times. Cast off, piece measures approx 51-52-52 cm.

Assembly: Insert a marking thread from top to bottom in the centre of the inc sts mid front. Sew 2 seams on a sewing machine around the marking thread, 1st seam = ½ st from the MT, 2nd seam = ½ st from the 1st seam. Cut mid front. Sew the shoulder seams. Pick up approx 110 to 120 sts along left front piece on needle size 2.5 mm with off-white and work edge back and forth on needle as follows: 3 cm stocking st, change to beige, 1 row stocking st, P 1 row (= folding edge), change to off-white and work 3 cm stocking st, cast off. Repeat along right front piece, but after 1 cm make 5 buttonholes evenly distributed. 1 buttonhole = cast off 2 sts and cast on 2 new sts on return row – remember buttonholes on the piece in stocking sts to be folded towards WS! Pick up approx 106 to 114 sts round the neck on needle size 2.5 mm with off-white and work edge as described for front bands back and forth on needle. Fold all edges double towards the WS and fasten. Set in sleeves and sew on buttons.
