------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- RAGLAN: Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over, which is worked as follows on the next round: BEFORE RAGLAN-STITCH (yarn over twists to the right): Slip the yarn-over purl-wise from the left to the right needle, place it back onto the left needle by inserting the left needle through the back (the yarn over is now the other way round). Knit through the stitch loop that lies on the front of the needle (avoids a hole). AFTER RAGLAN-STITCH (yarn over twists to the left): Knit through the stitch loop that lies on the back of the needle (avoids a hole). STRIPES: Work with color Greige until the piece measures 5-6-7-8-9-10 cm = 2"-2⅜"-2¾"-3⅛"-3½"-4" from the marker. Work 4 rounds with color Off White. Work with color Light Taupe to finished length. INCREASE TIP: When increasing evenly on the first round of rib, it is important to increase in the stitches that will subsequently be purled, so the knitted stitches continue neatly from the stockinette stitch. SLEEVE TIP: When knitting up stitches under the sleeve, you can get a small hole in the transition between stitches on the body and sleeve. This hole can be closed by picking up the strand between 2 stitches and working this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SWEATER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The neck and yoke are worked in the round with circular needle, top down and from the right back shoulder, while increasing for raglan. When the yoke is finished, it is divided for the body and sleeves and the body continued in the round, while the sleeves wait. The sleeves are worked top down, in the round. If there is a «0» in your chosen size, skip the information and go straight to the next instruction. NECK: Cast on 56-60-68-72-76-80 stitches with circular needle size 3 MM = US 2.5 and color Greige DROPS Merino Extra Fine. Knit 1 round. Work rib in the round (purl 1 and knit 1) for 2-2-2-2½-2½-2½ cm = ¾"-¾"-¾"-1"-1"-1". The round begins on the right back shoulder. Insert 1 marker after the first 18-19-21-22-23-24 stitches (approx. mid-front). The piece is measured from this marker. YOKE: Change to circular needle size 4 MM = US 6. Insert 4 markers without working the stitches, each marker being inserted in a purled stitch (raglan-stitch) and you increase for raglan on each side of the raglan-stitches. The raglan-stitches are always purled. Insert marker-1 in the first stitch, count 7-7-9-9-9-9 stitches (= sleeve), Insert marker-2 in the next stitch, count 19-21-23-25-27-29 stitches (= front piece), Insert marker-3 in the next stitch, count 7-7-9-9-9-9 stitches (= sleeve), Insert marker-4 in the next stitch, there are 19-21-23-25-27-29 stitches left after the last marker (= back piece). Work stockinette stitch and increase for RAGLAN on each side of the purled raglan-stitches, AT THE SAME TIME begin the STRIPES – read explanations above. Remember to maintain the knitting gauge. Increase for raglan every 2nd round a total of 11-13-14-15-16-17 times = 144-164-180-192-204-216 stitches (8 increased stitches on each increase-round). NOTE: At the beginning of the round increase after marker-1 and at the end of the round increase before marker-1. Remember the STRIPES. Continue working until the yoke measures 9-10-11-12-13-14 cm = 3½"-4"-4⅜"-4¾"-5⅛"-5½" from the marker mid-front. Now divide for the body and sleeves. DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: Place the first 31-35-39-41-43-45 stitches on a stitch holder for the sleeve, cast on 6 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), knit 41-47-51-55-59-63 (= front piece), place the next 31-35-39-41-43-45 stitches on a stitch holder for the sleeve, cast on 6 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), knit the last 41-47-51-55-59-63 stitches (= back piece). The body and sleeves are finished separately. BODY: = 94-106-114-122-130-138 stitches. Continue stockinette stitch in the round until the piece measures 18-20-24-27-29-30 cm = 7"-8"-9½"-10⅝"-11⅜"-11¾" from the marker mid-front. Change to circular needle size 3 MM = US 2.5. Work rib (knit 1 and purl 1), AT THE SAME TIME increase 8-10-10-12-12-14 stitches evenly on the first round – read INCREASE TIP = 102-116-124-134-142-152 stitches. When the rib measures 3 cm = 1⅛", bind off with rib. The sweater measures approx. 21-23-27-30-32-33 cm = 8¼"-9"-10⅝"-11¾"-12½"-13" from the marker mid-front and 23-25-29-32-34-35 cm = 9"-9¾"-11⅜"-12½"-13⅜"-13¾" from the shoulder. SLEEVES: Place the 31-35-39-41-43-45 sleeve-stitches from one stitch holder onto circular needle size 4 MM = US 6 and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 6 cast-on stitches under the sleeve – read SLEEVE TIP = 37-41-45-47-49-51 stitches. Insert a marker-thread in the middle of the 6 new stitches under the sleeve. The round starts by the marker-thread. Work stockinette stitch in the round. AT THE SAME TIME, after the first round, begin to decrease mid-under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP, as follows: Decrease 2 stitches every 4-4-4-5-5-6 cm = 1½"-1½"-1½"-2"-2"-2⅜" a total of 2-3-4-4-4-4 times = 33-35-37-39-41-43 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 9-12-15-19-22-25 cm = 3½"-4¾"-6"-7½"-8¾"-9¾" from the division. Change to double pointed needles size 3 MM = US 2.5. Work rib (knit 1 and purl 1), AT THE SAME TIME increase 3-3-3-3-3-5 stitches evenly on the first round = 36-38-40-42-44-48 stitches. When the rib measures 3 cm = 1⅛", bind off with rib. The sleeve measures approx. 12-15-18-22-25-28 cm = 4¾"-6"-7"-8¾"-9¾"-11" from the division. |
