------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagram A.1. RAGLAN: Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over, which is worked as follows on the next round: BEFORE RAGLAN-STITCH: Slip the yarn over off the left needle and replace it the other way round (insert the left needle through the back when replacing it). Knit through the front loop to avoid a hole. Then work the new stitch in stockinette stitch. AFTER RAGLAN-STITCH: Knit through the back loop to avoid a hole. Then work the new stitch in stockinette stitch. INCREASE TIP (evenly spaced): To work out how to increase evenly, count the total number of stitches on the needle (e.g., 90 stitches) and divide by the number of increases to be made (e.g., 24) = 3.8. In this example, increase by making 1 yarn over after approx. each 4th stitch. On the next round knit the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. SLEEVE TIP: When knitting up stitches under the sleeve, you can get a small hole in the transition between stitches on the body and sleeve. This hole can be closed by picking up the strand between 2 stitches and working this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SWEATER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The neck and yoke are worked in the round with circular needle, top down and from the right back shoulder. When the yoke is finished, it is divided for the body and sleeves and the body continued in the round, while the sleeves wait. The sleeves are worked top down, in the round. If there is a «0» in your chosen size, skip the information and go straight to the next instruction. NECK: Cast on 124-124-132-132-140-148-148 stitches with circular needle size 4 MM = US 6 and DROPS Daisy or DROPS Merino Extra Fine. Change to circular needle size 2.5 MM = US 1.5. Work rib and PATTERN in the round – read explanation above, on the first round as follows: Work A.1, then rib (purl 2, knit 2) across the next 10-10-10-10-10-10-10 stitches, A.1, rib (purl 2, knit 2) across the next 10-10-10-10-10-10-10 stitches, A.1, rib (purl 2, knit 2) across the next 30-30-34-34-38-42-42 stitches, A.1, rib (purl 2, knit 2) across the next 10-10-10-10-10-10-10 stitches, A.1, rib (purl 2, knit 2) across the next 10-10-10-10-10-10-10 stitches, A.1, rib (purl 2, knit 2) across the next 30-30-34-34-38-42-42 stitches. Continue this rib and pattern for 8-9-9-10-10-11-11 cm = 3⅛"-3½"-3½"-4"-4"-4⅜"-4⅜". Work the next round as follows: Work A.1, knit 2 twisted together, knit 6, knit 2 together, A.1, knit 2 twisted together, knit 6, knit 2 together, A.1, knit 30-30-34-34-38-42-42, A.1, knit 2 twisted together, knit 6, knit 2 together, A.1, knit 2 twisted together, knit 6, knit 2 together, A.1, knit 30-30-34-34-38-42-42 (= 8 stitches decreased) = 116-116-124-124-132-140-140 stitches. The neck is now finished. The round begins on the right back shoulder. Insert 1 marker after the first 43-43-45-45-47-49-49 stitches (approx. mid-front); the piece is now measured from here. YOKE: Change to circular needle size 4 MM = US 6. Insert 8 markers, without working the stitches and inserting them on each side of A.1 (4 stitches), which are the raglan-stitches. You increase for raglan on each side of the raglan-stitches. Insert marker-1 at the beginning of the round, count 4 stitches (= A.1 = raglan-stitches), Insert marker-2 before the next stitch, count 20-20-20-20-20-20-20 stitches (= sleeve), Insert marker-3 before the next stitch, count 4 stitches (= A.1 = raglan-stitches), Insert marker-4 before the next stitch, count 30-30-34-34-38-42-42 stitches (= front piece), Insert marker-5 before the next stitch, count 4 stitches (= A.1 = raglan-stitches), Insert marker-6 before the next stitch, count 20-20-20-20-20-20-20 stitches (= sleeve), Insert marker-7 before the next stitch, count 4 stitches (= A.1 = raglan-stitches), Insert marker-8 before the next stitch, there are 30-30-34-34-38-42-42 stitches left after the last marker (= back piece). Continue with stockinette stitch and pattern, increasing for RAGLAN on each side of the raglan-stitches – read description above, as follows: ROUND 1: Knit and continue A.1 (i.e., on each raglan-line and on top of the sleeves), increasing for raglan on each side of the raglan-stitches (= 8 increased stitches). NOTE: At the beginning of the round increase after marker-2 and at the end of the round increase before marker-1. ROUND 2: Knit and continue the pattern (remember to work the yarn overs twisted as described under RAGLAN). Work ROUNDS 1 and 2 a total of 10-6-8-11-16-13-9 times (20-12-16-22-32-26-18 rounds worked) = 196-164-188-212-260-244-212 stitches. Remember to maintain the knitting gauge. Now increase as follows: ROUND 1: Knit and continue A.1, increasing for raglan on each side of the raglan-stitches (= 8 increased stitches). ROUND 2: Knit and continue A.1 (remember to work the yarn overs twisted each way). ROUND 3: Knit and continue A.1, increasing for raglan on the front and back pieces i.e., after markers 4 and 8 and before markers 5 and 1 – do not increase on the sleeves (= 4 increased stitches). ROUND 4: Knit and continue A.1 (remember to work the yarn overs twisted each way).. Work ROUNDS 1 to 4 a total of 10-12-12-12-11-14-17 times (40-48-48-48-44-56-68 rounds worked = 10-12-12-12-11-14-17 increases in height on the sleeves and 20-24-24-24-22-28-34 increases in height on the front and back pieces) = 316-308-332-356-392-412-416 stitches. All increases for raglan are finished. A total of 20-18-20-23-27-27-26 increases in height on the sleeves and 30-30-32-35-38-41-43 increases in height on the front and back pieces. Knit and continue A.1 without increasing until the yoke measures 21-21-23-25-27-29-31 cm = 8¼"-8¼"-9"-9¾"-10⅝"-11⅜"-12¼" from the marker mid-front. Now divide for the body and sleeves. DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: Continue A.1 across the first 4 stitches (these stitches belong to the back piece), place the next 60-56-60-66-74-74-72 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 8-16-16-18-18-22-28 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), work 98-98-106-112-122-132-136 stitches as before (= front piece), place the next 60-56-60-66-74-74-72 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 8-16-16-18-18-22-28 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), work the last 94-94-102-108-118-128-132 stitches as before (= remainder of back piece). The body and sleeves are finished separately. BODY: = 212-228-244-260-280-308-328 stitches. The round begins before marker-1. Continue stockinette stitch and A.1 (the pattern continues even though the raglan-increases are finished), until the piece measures 39-41-43-44-46-47-49 cm = 15¼"-16⅛"-17"-17¼"-18"-18½"-19¼" from the marker mid-front. Change to circular needle size 3 MM = US 2.5. Work rib AT THE SAME TIME as increasing stitches evenly on the first round as follows: ROUND 1: Continue A.1, work rib (purl 2, knit 2) across the next 8-16-16-18-8-22-28 stitches increasing 2-6-6-4-4-4-6 stitches evenly across these stitches – read INCREASE TIP (= 10-22-22-22-22-26-34 ribbed stitches), continue A.1, work rib (purl 2, knit 2) across the next 90-90-98-104-114-124-128 stitches increasing 24-24-24-26-32-34-34 stitches evenly across these stitches (= 114-114-122-130-146-158-162 ribbed stitches), A.1, work rib (purl 2, knit 2) across the next 8-16-16-18-18-22-28 stitches increasing 2-6-6-4-4-4-6 stitches evenly across these stitches (= 10-22-22-22-22-26-34 ribbed stitches), A.1, work rib (purl 2, knit 2) across the next 90-90-98-104-114-124-128 stitches increasing 24-24-24-26-32-34-34 stitches evenly across these stitches (= 114-114-122-130-146-158-162 ribbed stitches) = 264-288-304-320-352-384-408 stitches. Continue this rib and pattern for 8-8-8-9-9-10-10 cm = 3⅛"-3⅛"-3⅛"-3½"-3½"-4"-4". Bind off with rib. The sweater measures approx. 47-49-51-53-55-57-59 cm = 18½"-19¼"-20"-21"-21⅝"-22½"-23¼" from the marker mid-front and 52-54-56-58-60-62-64 cm = 20½"-21¼"-22"-22¾"-23⅝"-24⅜"-25¼" from the shoulder. SLEEVES: Place the 60-56-60-66-74-74-72 sleeve-stitches from one thread on circular needle size 4 MM = US 6 and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 8-16-16-18-18-22-28 stitches cast on under the sleeve – read SLEEVE TIP = 68-72-76-84-92-96-100 stitches. Insert a marker-thread in the middle of the 8-16-16-18-18-22-28 stitches under the sleeve- the round starts by the marker-thread. Work stockinette stitch in the round, with A.1 continued on top of the sleeve. AT THE SAME TIME, when the sleeve measures 1 cm = ⅜" from the division, decrease mid-under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP as follows: Decrease 2 stitches every 2nd round 2-2-2-2-3-3-3 times, then decrease 2 stitches every 2 cm = ¾" a total of 0-0-1-3-4-5-5 times = 64-68-70-74-78-80-84 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 37-38-36-34-32-29-28 cm = 14½"-15"-14¼"-13⅜"-12½"-11⅜"-11" from the division. Change to double pointed needles size 3 MM = US 2.5. Work rib (knit 2, purl 2), AT THE SAME TIME increase 18-22-20-24-24-22-26 stitches evenly on the first round = 82-90-90-98-102-102-110 stitches. NOTE: Do not increase across A.1 and adjust the rib so you have 2 purled stitches on each side of A.1 and A.1 continues on the rib. When the rib measures 8-8-8-9-9-10-10 cm = 3⅛"-3⅛"-3⅛"-3½"-3½"-4"-4", bind off slightly loosely with rib. The sleeve measures approx. 45-46-44-43-41-39-38 cm = 17¾"-18"-17¼"-17"-16⅛"-15¼"-15" from the division. |
