How to work garter stitch/ridges with knitted stitches (in the round) – Nordic knitting style

In this DROPS video, we show you how to work garter stitch in the round using a circular needle and turning after each round, so you work alternately from the right and wrong side. The technique we show here uses the Nordic knitting style. The structure is called garter stitch/ridges and is one of many variations of garter stitch. This technique is worked with knitted stitches only.

BEFORE STARTING THE VIDEO:
This variation of garter stitch is worked with knitted stitches on all rounds, turning after each round. Keep a marker-thread in the transition between each round to avoid displacing the beginning/end of the round. We have already worked a few cm of garter stitch.

THE VIDEO SHOWS:
ROUND 1:
Knit the whole round, inserting a marker-thread at the beginning of the round.
ROUND 2:
Knit the whole round. Move the marker-thread so it follows your work onwards.
After the last stitch on the round, turn and work in the opposite direction. To avoid a hole after each turn, we need to “lock” the rounds together with the strand as follows:
Lay the working strand at the back of the piece, slip the first stitch on the right needle onto the left needle without twisting it, take the working strand forwards between the needles to the front, slip the outermost stitch on the left needle back onto the right needle. The rounds are now “locked”. Take the strand to the back of the piece again and continue working.

Repeat ROUNDS 1 and 2.
