HAT: GARTER ST (back and forth on needle): K all rows. INCREASE TIP: Inc by making 1 YO. On next row work YO twisted (i.e. work in the back loop of st instead of front) to avoid holes. --------------------------------------------------------- EAR FLAP: Ear flaps and the first 3 ridges (1 ridge = 2 rows in garter st) on the hat itself are worked with 4 strands Symphony, then finish with 2 strands. Worked back and forth on needle. Cast on 3 sts on needle size 9 mm / US 13 with 2 strands graypurple and 2 strands graybrown Symphony. Work in garter st - Read explanation above - at the same time after 1 row, inc 1 st in each side on every other row a total of 5 times - Read INCREASE TIP = 13 sts. On next row cast on 4 sts at beg of row (= towards mid back) = 17 sts. K 1 row over all sts, when 1 st remains (towards mid front), inc 1 st = 18 sts, K 1 row (last row = WS). Put piece aside. Work another ear flap but reversed - i.e. on last row inc 1 st towards mid front at beg of row after 1st st, and cast on 4 new sts towards mid back at end of row. HAT: Work the ear flaps on to same needle (beg mid back) and cast on 14 new sts between ear flaps (= forehead) = 50 sts on needle. Then work back and forth from mid back. Work 6 rows in garter st. Now finish the piece with 1 strand graypurple and 1 strand graybrown in stockinette st until finished measurements. REMEMBER THE GAUGE! When piece measures 11 cm / 4½'', measured mid front, work next row as follows (from RS): * K 2 tog, K 8 *, repeat from *-* across. P 1 row from WS. Work next row as follows: * K 2 tog, K 7 *, repeat from *-* across. Continue dec on every other row with 1 st less between every dec until 10 sts remain on needle. Hat measures approx. 23 cm / 9'' from mid front. Cut the yarn and pull yarn through the remaining sts, tighten tog and fasten. ASSEMBLY: Sew hat tog mid back in outermost loop of edge sts to make the seam invisible. --------------------------------------------------------- SCARF: ENGLISH RIB: Row 1 (= WS): K 1 edge st, * K 1, 1 YO, slip 1 st as if to P *, repeat from *-* until 2 sts remain, finish with K 2. Row 2 (= RS): K 1 edge st, * 1 YO, slip 1 st as if to P, K tog next st and YO *, repeat from *-* until 2 sts remain and finish with 1 YO, slip 1 st as if to P and K 1 edge st. Row 3 (= WS): K 1 edge st, * K tog next st and YO, 1 YO, slip 1 st as if to P *, repeat from *-* and finish with K tog next st and YO and K 1 edge st. Repeat 2nd and 3rd row upwards. --------------------------------------------------------- SCARF: Loosely cast on 21 sts on needle size 12 mm / US 17 with 1 strand graypurple and 1 strand graybrown Symphony and work ENGLISH RIB - see explanation above. Loosely bind off when piece measures approx. 180 cm / 70''. --------------------------------------------------------- WRIST WARMERS: Cast on 30 sts on double pointed needles size 6 mm / US 10 with 1 strand graypurple and 1 strand graybrown Symphony. K 1 round, then work rib K 1/P 1. When piece measures 25 cm / 9 3/4'', loosely bind off with K over K and P over P. Knit another wrist warmer. |
