MVH Annette

Gauge: 21 sts and 28 rows on larger needles and in pattern = 10 x 10 cm [4»x4»] Pattern: See chart. One chart = one repeat of the pattern. Pattern is shown from the right side. Small arrows indicate the starting point for each size. Rib: *knit 2, purl 2 *, repeat from * - *. Garter Stitch: When knitting flat, knit all sts, all rows. When knitting in the round, First row - knit, Second row - purl. Repeat these two rows. One Aridge» = two rows. BODY Cardigan is knit in the round on circular needles with steeks for the center front and armholes. With wine red cast on 247 (259-271) sts (includes 2 edge sts) on smaller circular needles and work back and forth on the needle for 3.5 cm [1.5»] in stockinette stitch with 1 edge stitch on either side for the center front. Purl 1 row for the folding edge. Measure the work from this point. Change to larger circular needles. Cast on three sts at center front and join, being careful not to twist the sts. These five center sts constitute the center front steek and are not knitted in Pattern. Knit Pattern 1, starting at the arrow on the diagram. After Pattern 1 knit Pattern 2 upwards until the work measures approximately 37 (39-44) cm [14.5» (15-3/8» - 17 3/8)]. Adjust for pattern (approximately 37 cm [14.5»] of the work remains). After Pattern 2 knit Pattern 3 upwards to finished dimensions. When the work measures 49 (50-55) cm [19.25» (19.75»-21-5/8»)], knit the next row as follows: knit 5 steek sts at the center front, knit 59 (62-65) sts for right front, bind off 4 sts for armhole, knit 119 (125-131) sts for back, bind off 4 sts for armhole, knit 59 (62-65) sts for left front. On the next row cast on 5 sts on either side over the bound-off sts (these sts are for the underarm steek and are not knitted into the pattern). 118 (124-130) sts + 5 steek sts for the front, and 119 (125-131) sts for the back. Bind off for armholes on each side of the 5 steek sts on every other row: 1 stitch 3 times. 112 (119-125) sts remain. When the work measures 66 (68-73) cm [26» (26.75» - 28.75»)], bind off the center 8 (10-10) sts + 5 steek sts in the front for the neck. Knit the rest of the work back and forth and the needle . Bind off for the neck on every other row: 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 2 times, 1 stitch 3 times. When the work measures 72 (74-79) cm [28.25» (29-1/8»- 31-1/8»)], bind off the center 25 (27-27) sts for the back neck and then bind off 2 sts on each side of the neck on the next row. Bind off after Pattern 3. The work measures approximately 74 (76-81) cm [29-1/8» (30» - 31-7/8»)]. Sleeves: With wine red cast on 50 (52-52) sts on smaller double pointed needles. Join, being careful not to twist the sts. Place a marker at the join. Knit 4 cm [1.5»] in stockinette stitch. Purl 1 row for the folding edge. Measure the work from here. Change to larger double pointed needles and knit Pattern 1. When the work measures 4 cm [1.5»], increase on either side of the marker: 1 stitch each side 28 (29-29) times. For Small, alternately every 3rd and 4th row. For Medium +Large, every 3rd row. 106 (110-110) sts. After Pattern 1 knit Pattern 2 upward until the work measures approximately 29 (28-28) cm [11-3/8» (11» - 11»)]. Adjust for pattern (approximately 19 cm [7.5»] of the work remain). After Pattern 2 knit Pattern 4, then Pattern 5 upward to finished dimensions. When the work measures 43 (42-42) cm [16-7/8» (16.75» - 16.75»)], put 2 sts from either side of the marker on a holder. Knit the rest of the work back and forth on the needle. Continue to put sts on a holder for sleeve tops on each side on every other row: 5 sts 6 times. The work measures approximately 48 (47-47) cm [18-7/8» (18.75» - 18.75»)]. Put sts on the sleeve top back on the double pointed needles and knit 2.5 cm [1»] in reverse stockinette stitch for a seam allowance. Bind off. Assembly: Machine sew a marker thread down the center of the steek sts at the armholes and center front. Sew two machine seams on either side of the marker thread, 1/2 stitch from the marker thread. Cut up the center marker thread for armholes and at the middle front. Sew shoulder seams. With wine red pick up approximately 140-160 sts along the left front on smaller circular needles and knit Border as follows: Knit 3 cm [1.25»] in rib, purl 1 row for folding, knit 3 cm [1.25»] stockinette stitch, bind off. Repeat along the right front, but after 1 cm [3/8»] knit 8 (8-9) buttonholes evenly distributed on the row. 1 buttonhole = bind off 2 sts and cast on 2 new sts over the bound-off sts on the next row. Remember to knit corresponding buttonholes on the folding edge. Fold the button band over against the wrong side and sew. With wine red pick up approximately 106-110 sts (divisible by 4+2) around the neck and over the folded button band from the wrong side on smaller double pointed needles and knit collar as follows: 2 sts garter st, *knit 2, purl 2*, repeat from *-* until 2 sts remain, 2 sts garter st. Simultaneously increase inside the 2 garter sts on either side on every other row: 1 stitch 20 times, knitting the increased sts into the rib pattern. Bind off when the work measures approximately 13 cm [5-1/8»]. Fold edges over double against the wrong side and sew. Sew the sleeves to the body from the right side as follows: Sew alternately a stitch in the last row of plain knitting on the sleeve before the seam allowance and a stitch on the body after the machine seam. Turn the cardigan inside out and sew the seam allowance from the sleeve over the steek on the body by hand. Sew on the buttons. |
