------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- RAGLAN – when working back and forth: All increases are worked from the right side. Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over, which is worked as follows on the next row (wrong side): BEFORE RAGLAN-STITCH (yarn over twists to the left): Purl through the stitch loop that lies on the back of the needle (avoids a hole). AFTER RAGLAN-STITCH (yarn over twists to the right): Slip the yarn over from the left needle to the right needle purl-wise, then replace it by inserting the left needle through the back (the yarn over is now the other way round). Purl through the stitch loop that lies on the front of the needle (avoids a hole). RAGLAN – when working in the round: Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over, which is worked as follows on the next round: BEFORE RAGLAN-STITCH (yarn over twists to the right): Slip the yarn-over purl-wise from the left to the right needle, place it back onto the left needle by inserting the left needle through the back (the yarn over is now the other way round). Knit through the stitch loop that lies on the front of the needle (avoids a hole). AFTER RAGLAN-STITCH (yarn over twists to the left): Knit through the stitch loop that lies on the back of the needle (avoids a hole). EDGE-STITCHES I-CORD, RIGHT FRONT PIECE: RIGHT SIDE: Work until there are 3 stitches left, purl 1, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with strand in front, knit 1. WRONG SIDE: Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with strand in front, knit 2, work to end of row. EDGE-STITCHES I-CORD, LEFT FRONT PIECE: RIGHT SIDE: Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with strand in front, knit 1, purl 1, work to end of row. WRONG SIDE: Work until there are 3 stitches left, knit 1, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with strand in front, knit 1. BUTTONHOLES: Work the buttonholes on the right band (when the garment is worn) from the right side, when there are 5 stitches left on the row as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Make 1 yarn over, knit 2, purl 1, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, knit 1. ROW 2 (wrong side): Work the band as before, purling together the yarn over and the next stitch to leave a hole. The first buttonhole is worked 1 cm = ⅜" below the last cast-on stitch for the neckline. Then work the other 2 buttonholes with 4-4-4½-4½-5-5-5 cm = 1½"-1½"-1⅝"-1⅝"-2"-2"-2" between each one. SLEEVE TIP: When knitting up stitches under the sleeve, you can get a small hole in the transition between stitches on the body and sleeve. This hole can be closed by picking up the strand between 2 stitches and working this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). GARTER STITCH: Knit all rows, from both the right and wrong side. 1 ridge in height = knit 2 rows. BIND-OFF WITH PICOT: Bind off from the right side as follows: Knit 1, * Increase for picot: Insert the right needle between the 1st and 2nd stitch on the left needle, make 1 yarn over, pull the yarn over through the stitches and place it on the left needle *, work from *-* a total of 3 times (3 new stitches). Then bind off as follows: Knit 1, then pass the back stitch on the right needle over the first stitch (1 stitch decreased), repeat the bind-off until you have bind off 5 stitches = 1 picot. * Repeat from *-* until all stitches are bind-off. Fasten the strand. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SWEATER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The neckline is worked to begin with, back and forth and top down, casting on new stitches on each side. The yoke is continued back and forth from mid-front. When the split in the neckline is finished, the bands are laid on top of each other and worked together then the yoke is continued in the round. When the yoke is finished, it is divided for the body and sleeves and the body is continued in the round, while the sleeves wait. The sleeves are worked top down, in the round. Stitches are knitted up around the neckline and the collar worked back and forth to finish. NECKLINE: Cast on 62-64-66-68-70-72-74 stitches with circular needle size 5 MM = US 8 and DROPS Air. Purl 1 row from the wrong side. Insert 4 markers, while working the next row and inserting each marker in a stitch (the raglan-stitches). You increase for RAGLAN on each side of them – read explanation above for how to increase. ROW 1 (right side): Knit 1, make 1 yarn over, knit 1 and insert 1 marker in this stitch (= raglan-stitch), make 1 yarn over, knit 18 (= sleeve), make 1 yarn over, knit 1 and insert 1 marker in this stitch (= raglan-stitch), make 1 yarn over, knit 20-22-24-26-28-30-32 (= back piece), make 1 yarn over, knit 1 and insert 1 marker in this stitch (= raglan-stitch), make 1 yarn over, knit 18 (= sleeve), make 1 yarn over, knit 1 and insert 1 marker in this stitch (= raglan-stitch), make 1 yarn over, knit 1, cast on 1 stitch at the end of the row = 71-73-75-77-79-81-85 stitches. ROW 2 (wrong side): Purl (remember to work the yarn overs as described under RAGLAN), cast on 1 stitch at the end of the row = 72-74-76-78-80-82-84 stitches. ROW 3 (right side): Knit and increase for raglan on each side of the raglan-stitches, cast on 1 stitch at the end of the row = 81-83-85-87-89-91-93 stitches. ROW 4 (wrong side): Purl, cast on 1 stitch at the end of the row = 82-84-86-88-90-92-94 stitches. Work ROWS 3 and 4 three more times. You have increased 5 times for raglan and cast on 5 stitches each side = 112-114-116-118-120-122-124 stitches. Continue as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Knit and increase for raglan as before, cast on 7-8-9-10-11-12-13 stitches at the end of the row = 127-130-133-136-139-142-145 stitches. ROW 2 (wrong side): Work 3 stitches according to EDGE-STITCHES WITH I-CORD – read explanation above, purl to end of row and cast on 7-8-9-10-11-12-13 stitches at the end of the row = 134-138-142-146-150-154-158 stitches: 32-34-36-38-40-42-44 stitches on the back piece, 30 stitches on each sleeve, 19-20-21-22-23-24-25 stitches on each front piece and 4 raglan-stitches. Now increase for raglan as follows. NOTE: Skip this section in size XS. ROW 1 (right side): Work the edge-stitches as before and increase for raglan on each side of the raglan-stitches (8 increased stitches). ROW 2 (wrong side): Purl, with the edge-stitches as before. Work ROWS 1 and 2 0-4-6-7-5-3-1 times (0-8-12-14-10-6-2 rows worked) = 134-170-190-202-190-178-166 stitches. Continue increasing for raglan but before these increases are finished, the piece will be worked together mid-front and the yoke continued in the round. Read the next 2 sections before continuing. RAGLAN – ALL SIZES: ROW 1 (right side): Work stockinette stitch and the edge-stitches as before, increasing for raglan on each side of the raglan-stitches (8 increased stitches). ROW 2 (wrong side): Work stockinette stitch and the edge-stitches. ROW 3 (right side): Work stockinette stitch and the edge-stitches, increasing for raglan on the front and back pieces, i.e., before markers 1 and 3 and after markers 2 and 4; do not increase across the sleeves (4 increased stitches). ROW 4 (wrong side): Work stockinette stitch and edge-stitches, with the new stitches worked in stockinette stitch. Work ROWS 1 to 4 a total of 11-10-10-10-12-14-16 times (44-40-40-40-48-56-64 rows worked: 11-10-10-10-12-14-16 increases in height on the sleeves and 22-20-20-20-24-28-32 increases in height on the front/back pieces) = 260-284-304-316-328-340-352 stitches (this stitch count is for when all the raglan-increases are finished and the bands are worked together). WORK TOGETHER: AT THE SAME TIME, when the piece measures 19-19-20-20-21-21-22 cm = 7½"-7½"-8"-8"-8¼"-8¼"-8¾" from the cast-on edge mid-back, work the bands (= 3 stitches I-cord + 3 stockinette stitches) together as follows: Work from the right side until there are 6 stitches left on the row. Lay the first 6 stitches on the left front piece under the 6 last stitches on the right front piece and knit the stitches together 1 and 1; the right band now lies on top of the left band. Continue in the round and continue increasing for raglan. All increases for raglan are finished: a total of 28-30-32-34-36-37-39 increases in height on the front/back piece and 17-20-22-24-24-23-23 increases in height on the sleeves. Continue stockinette stitch without increasing until the yoke measures 25-27-29-31-33-33-35 cm = 9¾"-10⅝"-11⅜"-12¼"-13"-13"-13¾" from the cast-on edge mid-back. Now divide for the body and sleeves. DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES Work up to and including the first raglan-stitch, place the next 52-58-62-64-64-64-64 stitches on a stitch holder for the sleeve, cast on 4-4-6-8-10-14-18 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), work 78-84-90-94-100-106-112 stitches (back piece), place the next 52-58-62-64-64-64-64 stitches on a stitch holder for the sleeve, cast on 4-4-6-8-10-14-18 0 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), work the last 78-84-90-94-100-106-112 stitches (= front piece). The body and sleeves are finished separately. BODY: = 164-176-192-204-220-240-260 stitches. Work stockinette stitch in the round until the piece measures 46-48-50-52-53-55-57 cm = 18"-19"-19¾"-20½"-21"-21⅝"-22½" from mid-back. Change to circular needle size 3.5 MM = US 4 and work as follows: ROUND 1: * Make 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch purl-wise, purl 1 *, work from *-*. ROUND 2: * Knit together the yarn over and knitted stitch, purl 1 *, work from *-*. Work ROUNDS 1 and 2 for 3-3-3-3-4-4-4 cm = 1⅛"-1⅛"-1⅛"-1⅛"-1½"-1½"-1½". Bind off with knit above knit and purl above purl. The sweater measures approx. 49-51-53-55-57-59-61 cm = 19¼"-20"-21"-21⅝"-22½"-23¼"-24" from the cast-on edge mid-back and 54-56-58-60-62-64-66 cm = 21¼"-22"-22¾"-23⅝"-24⅜"-25¼"-26" from the shoulder. SLEEVES: Place the 52-58-62-64-64-64-64 sleeve-stitches from one stitch holder onto circular needle size 5 MM = US 8 and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 4-4-6-8-10-14-18 cast-on stitches under the sleeve – read SLEEVE TIP = 56-62-68-72-74-78-82 stitches. Insert a marker-thread in the middle of the 4-4-6-8-10-14-18 new stitches under the sleeve. The round starts by the marker-thread. Work stockinette stitch in the round. AT THE SAME TIME, when the sleeve measures 1 cm = ⅜" from the division, decrease mid-under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP as follows: Decrease 2 stitches every 4-4-3½-3½-3½-3-2½ cm = 1½"-1½"-1¼"-1¼"-1¼"-1⅛"-1" 2-4-7-8-8-9-10 times = 52-54-54-56-58-60-62 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 40-38-37-35-33-32-32 cm = 15¾"-15"-14½"-13¾"-13"-12½"-12½" from the division. Change to double pointed needles size 3.5 MM = US 4 and work as follows. ROUND 1: * Make 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch purl-wise, purl 1 *, work from *-*. ROUND 2: * Knit together the yarn over and knitted stitch, purl 1 *, work from *-*. Work a double folded-edge as follows: Work 3 rows of stockinette stitch (first row from the wrong side), purl 1 row from the right side, work 3 rows of stockinette stitch. Bind off with knit from the right side. Fold the edge double to the wrong side and sew down. Cut the strand. COLLAR: Start from the right side and knit up 1 stitch in each purled stitch from the folded-edge = 87-91-95-99-103-107-111 stitches. Cut the strand. Continue from the right side: ROW 1 (right side): 1 edge-stitch in GARTER STITCH – read explanation above, * make 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch purl-wise, knit 1 *, work from *-* until there are 2 stitches left, make 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch purl-wise, 1 edge-stitch in garter stitch. ROW 2 (wrong side): 1 edge-stitch in garter stitch, * knit together the yarn over and slipped stitch, purl 1 *, work from *-* until there are 2 stitches left, knit together the yarn over and slipped stitch, 1 edge-stitch in garter stitch. When the collar measures 2 cm = ¾", increase 2 stitches on each side, from the wrong side as follows: 1 edge-stitch in garter stitch, * knit together the yarn over and slipped stitch, purl 1, in the next stitch work as follows: Knit together the yarn over and slipped stitch but do not slip them from the left needle, make 1 yarn over and knit together the yarn over and slipped stitch one more time (2 increased stitches).
