------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- ELEVATION: To make the sweater slightly higher at the back of the neck when working a round yoke, you can work an elevation as described here. Skip this section if you do not want an elevation. Start from the right side and knit 11-12-13-14-15-16-17 stitches from the marker-thread at the beginning of the round (= mid-back), turn and purl 22-24-26-28-30-32-34 stitches. Work German Short Rows to avoid holes – see below. Turn, tighten the strand and knit 33-36-39-42-45-48-51, turn, tighten the strand and purl 44-48-52-56-60-64-68. Turn, tighten the strand and knit 55-60-65-70-75-80-85, turn, tighten the strand and purl 66-72-78-84-90-96-102. Turn, tighten the strand and knit back to the marker-thread mid-back. Then continue the yoke as described in the text. GERMAN SHORT ROWS: When working short rows, there will be a small hole after each turn. This hole can be closed by tightening the strand or using the technique German Short Rows as follows: Slip the first stitch purl-wise, take the strand over the right needle and tighten well from the back (2 loops on the needle). These loops are worked together on the next row. PATTERN: See diagram A.1. The pattern is worked in stockinette stitch. KNITTING TIP: To avoid the knitting gauge becoming tighter when working pattern, it is important that the strands at the back are not tight. Use a larger needle size when working pattern if necessary. INCREASE TIP: Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over, which is knitted twisted on the next round to avoid a hole. The new stitch is then worked in stockinette stitch. DECREASE TIP (for mid-under sleeves): Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SWEATER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The neck and yoke are worked in the round with circular needle, top down and from mid-back. When the yoke is finished, it is divided for the body and sleeves and the body is continued in the round, while the sleeves wait. The sleeves are worked top down, in the round. If there is a «0» in your chosen size, skip the information and go straight to the next instruction. NECK: Cast on 80-84-86-88-90-94-96 stitches with circular needle size 3 MM = US 2.5 and color Nougat DROPS Sky. Knit 1 round. Work rib in the round (knit 1, purl 1) for 3 cm = 1⅛". YOKE: Change to circular needle size 4 MM = US 6. Insert 1 marker-thread at the beginning of the round (mid-back). Allow the marker-thread to follow your work onwards. Knit 1 round and increase 24-26-28-30-32-32-34 stitches evenly spaced – read INCREASE TIP = 104-110-114-118-122-126-130 stitches. Insert 1 marker in the middle of the round (mid-front). The piece is now measured from here. Work an ELEVATION at the back of the neck – read explanation above. Work stockinette stitch in the round. Remember to maintain the knitting gauge. When the yoke measures 2-2-3-3-3-3-3 cm = ¾"-¾"-1⅛"-1⅛"-1⅛"-1⅛"-1⅛" from the marker mid-front, increase 26-30-26-32-38-44-50 stitches evenly spaced = 130-140-140-150-160-170-180 stitches. Work 0-0-0-0-1-1-2 cm = 0"-0"-0"-0"- ⅜"-⅜"-¾" of stockinette stitch with color Nougat. The yoke now measures approx. 2-2-3-3-4-4-5 cm = ¾"-¾"-1⅛"-1⅛"-1½"-1½"-2" from the marker. Work pattern and increase as follows – read KNITTING TIP and PATTERN in explanations above. Work A.1 in the round. On each row in the diagram marked with an arrow increase as follows: ARROW-1: Increase 30-28-36-42-40-38-44 stitches evenly spaced = 160-168-176-192-200-208-224 stitches. ARROW-2: Increase 24-32-32-32-40-40-40 stitches evenly spaced = 184-200-208-224-240-248-264 stitches. ARROW-3: Increase 16-20-22-16-20-22-16 stitches evenly spaced = 200-220-230-240-260-270-280 stitches. ARROW-4: Increase 8-4-10-8-4-2-8 stitches evenly spaced = 208-224-240-248-264-272-288 stitches. When A.1 is finished in height, continue with stockinette stitch and color Nougat. When the yoke measures 14-14-15-16-17-18-19 cm = 5½"-5½"-6"-6¼"-6¾"-7"-7½" from the marker mid-front, divide for the body and sleeves. NOTE! If A.1 is not finished, continued the pattern on the body and sleeves. All increases must be finished before dividing. DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: Knit 31-34-37-38-41-42-45 (= half back piece), place the next 42-44-46-48-50-52-54 stitches on a thread/stitch holder for the sleeve, cast on 8 stitches (= mid-under the sleeve), knit 62-68-74-76-82-84-90 (= front piece), place the next 42-44-46-48-50-52-54 stitches on a thread/stitch holder for the sleeve, cast on 8 stitches (= mid-under the sleeve), knit the last 31-34-37-38-41-42-45 stitches (= half back piece). The body and sleeves are finished separately. BODY: = 140-152-164-168-180-184-196 stitches. Insert 1 marker in the middle of the 8 cast-on stitches under 1 sleeve. Cut the strand and begin the new round by the marker, or work to the marker with color Nougat. Work stockinette stitch in the round with color Nougat – if A.1 was not finished before dividing, complete A.1 and decrease 4-0-4-0-4-0-4 stitches evenly on a round without pattern so the pattern fits the round. When A.1 is finished, increase 4-0-4-0-4-0-4 stitches evenly spaced. If A.1 was finished before division for body and sleeves, the number of stitches doesn't need to be adjusted. Continue with stockinette stitch and color Nougat. When the piece measures 29-33-37-41-42-44-46 cm = 11⅜"-13"-14½"-16⅛"-16½"-17¼"-18" from the marker mid-front, change to circular needle size 3 MM = US 2.5. Knit 1 round and increase 12-14-14-16-16-18-20 stitches evenly spaced = 152-166-178-184-196-202-216 stitches. Work rib (knit 1, purl 1) for 3-3-3-3-4-4-4 cm = 1⅛"-1⅛"-1⅛"-1⅛"-1½"-1½"-1½". Bind off slightly loosely. The sweater measures approx. 32-36-40-44-46-48-50 cm = 12½"-14¼"-15¾"-17¼"-18"-19"-19¾" from the marker mid-front and 36-40-44-48-50-52-54 cm = 14¼"-15¾"-17¼"-19"-19¾"-20½"-21¼" from the shoulder. SLEEVES: Place the 42-44-46-48-50-52-54 sleeve-stitches from one stitch holder onto double pointed needles size 4 MM = US 6 and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 8 stitches cast on under the sleeve using color Nougat = 50-52-54-56-58-60-62 stitches. Insert a marker-thread in the middle of the 8 stitches under the sleeve, the round starts by the marker-thread. Work stockinette stitch in the round. NOTE! If A.1 was not finished on the yoke, complete the pattern then continue with stockinette stitch and color Nougat. The pattern will not fit under the sleeve. Make sure it is continued from the yoke and work pattern as far as it will go under the sleeve. When the sleeve measures 2-2-3-4-4-4-4 cm = ¾"-¾"-1⅛"-1½"-1½"-1½"-1½", decrease mid-under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP: Decrease 2 stitches every 3-3½-4-4½-5-6-7 cm = 1⅛"-1¼"-1½"-1⅝"-2"-2⅜"-2¾" a total of 6 times = 38-40-42-44-46-48-50 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 21-24-28-33-36-39-43 cm = 8¼"-9½"-11"-13"-14¼"-15¼"-17" from the division. There is 4 cm = 1½" left. Try the sweater on and work to desired length before working the rib. Change to double pointed needles size 3 MM = US 2.5. Knit 1 round and increase 4-4-4-4-6-6-6 stitches evenly spaced = 42-44-46-48-52-54-56 stitches. Work rib (knit 1, purl 1) for 3-3-3-3-4-4-4 cm = 1⅛"-1⅛"-1⅛"-1⅛"-1½"-1½"-1½", then bind off slightly loosely. The sleeve measures approx. 24-27-31-36-40-43-47 cm = 9½"-10⅝"-12¼"-14¼"-15¾"-17"-18½" from the division. |
