In this DROPS video we show how to work an elevation with short rows. This technique is frequently used in our patterns for pants or in back of neck on jumpers and jackets. In this video we work from beginning of round (= marker / mid back) as follows: K10 sts, turn piece (to avoid holes, we slip first st on return and tighten the thread). K20 st, turn piece, K30 st, turn piece and K40, turn piece. Finally we work one round in stocking st over all sts. We now have an elevation (= more rows) mid back of the piece. REMEMBER - you will need to read the specific pattern to be able to follow. To see a pattern using this technique, go to:

Bonjour Mieke, au 1er des rangs raccourcis (= sur l'end), vous augmentez de chaque côté des 2 marqueurs de la manche droite, vous tricotez jusqu'au marqueur côté droit du devant; puis vous tournez et tricotez le rang envers jusqu'à 3 m après le 3ème marqueur (jusqu'au côté gauche du devant), vous tournez et augmentez 2 m à chaque marqueur = 8 m au total; tricotez le rang sur l'envers comme indiqué, tournez et au rang suivant sur l'endroit vous ne tricotez que jusqu'au milieu dos = vous avez augmenté 2 m de chaque côté de la manche gauche seulement, vous avez maintenant le même nombre d'augmentations des 2 côtés du milieu dos/des manches. Bonjour Mme Richard, chaque chiffre/nombre se réfère à la taille indiquée dans le modèle, autrement dit dans la 1ère taille vous tricotez 7 ou 14 mailles, dans la 2ème, 9 ou 14 mailles et ainsi de suite. Bon tricot!

Bonjour Agnès, grâce à ces rangs raccourcis, on a plus de hauteur dans le dos, l'encolure devant sera alors un peu plus profonde que l'encolure dos; sans les rangs raccourcis de la rehausse, l'encolure devant et l'encolure dos sont identiques. Bon tricot!

In this DROPS video we show how to knit up stitches to one sleeve, working short rows, decrease under the sleeve, increase stitches before the rib, switch to smaller needle and a little bit of the bind off (knit over knit, and purl over purl). Insert 1 marker on the top of armhole (NB: This is not where the stitches were knitted up for the front piece, but a few cm down on the front piece, this is the middle of the shoulder). Follow the description in the pattern on how to work short rows, how and how many decreases, how long the sleeve should be and the rib. In this DROPS video we show how to work after chart A.1 and A.2 to the neck with short rows to the “Spring Fuzz” Jacket in DROPS 213-27. First we work right neck after chart A.1 and Short Rows-1, then left neck after chart A.2 and Short Rows-2. Then we show how to work these pieces together. In this DROPS video we show how to work separate heel with short rows for socks worked back and forth. We have already worked the top of the leg and downwards to where the piece measures 12 cm. Starting from RS: * K 6, turn and K 5 back, inc by K 2 sts in last st on row, turn *, repeat from *-* a total of 4 times. * K 8, turn and K 6 back, dec by K tog the last 2 sts, turn *, repeat from *-* a total of 4 times. In this video we show how you can knit stripes in garter st and at the same time short rows. Knit as follows: 1st row (= RS): Work until 2 sts remain, turn and work back, work until 4 sts remain, turn and work back. Continue like this (work 2 sts less than previous time) until the last 2 sts on needle have been worked back and forth. Knit at the same time the stripes. When working short rows you can shape the garment by making soft curves or give a better fit by creating bust darts. Short rows are partially worked rows before turning. By turning with a wrap you avoid a hole at the turning point. Short row in garter st: Work number of sts told in pattern, slip following st purl-wise, place yarn in front of work, slip st back on left needle, turn and work the row back. When knitting next row and getting to the st with wrap; knit wrap and stitch together as one stitch and then finish row.
