------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- INCREASE TIP-1: INCREASE ONE STITCH TOWARDS THE LEFT from right side (new stitch twists to left): Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the previous row, pick up the strand from the front and knit through the back loop. INCREASE ONE STITCH TOWARDS THE RIGHT from right side (new stitch twists to right): Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the previous row, pick up the strand from the back and knit through the front loop. INCREASE TIP-2: INCREASE ONE STITCH TOWARDS THE LEFT, from wrong side (new stitch twists to left): Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the previous row, pick up the strand from the back and purl through the front loop. INCREASE ONE STITCH TOWARDS THE RIGHT, from wrong side (new stitch twists to right): Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the previous row, pick up the strand from the front and purl through the back loop. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.4. Choose diagram for your size (applies to A.1). The diagrams show the pattern from the right side. The diagrams are read from right to left when working from the right side and left to right when working from the wrong side. GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows, from both the right and wrong side. 1 ridge in height = knit 2 rows. BANDS WITH I-CORD: BEGINNING OF ROW: Work the band as follows (10 stitches): Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with yarn in front, knit 1, work 8 garter stitches. END OF ROW: Work the band as follows (10 stitches)::Work until there are 10 stitches left on the row, work 8 garter stitches, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with yarn in front, knit 1. Work like this from both the right and wrong side. BUTTONHOLES: Work the buttonholes on the right band (when the garment is worn) from the right side, when there are 5 stitches left on the row as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Make 1 yarn over, knit 2 together, knit 1, slip 1 purl-wise with strand in front, knit 1. ROW 2 (wrong side): Work the band as before, knit the yarn over to leave a hole. The first buttonhole is worked when the right front piece measures 26-27-29-30-32-33-34 cm = 10¼"-10⅝"-11⅜"-11¾"-12½"-13"-13⅜" from the knitted-up row. Then work the other 3-3-4-4-4-4-4 buttonholes with 10-10-8-9-9-10-10 cm = 4"-4"-3⅛"-3½"-3½"-4"-4" between each one. KNITTING TIP: When working short rows, there will be a small hole after each turn. This hole can be closed by tightening the strand or using the technique German Short Rows as follows: Slip the first stitch purl-wise, take the strand over the right needle and tighten well from the back (2 loops on the needle). These loops are worked together on the next row. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker thread sits between these 2 stitches) slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (= 2 stitches decreased). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JACKET – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE. The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The piece is started back and forth, casting on stitches at the back of the neck and working the back piece top down, while increasing stitches on each side for the shoulders, which become slightly diagonal. The back piece is worked as far as the armholes. On the front pieces, the bands are worked first (and sewn to the neckline when the piece is assembled). Then the front piece is worked, knitting up stitches along 1 back shoulder, increasing for the neckline and armholes and working top down as far as the armholes. This is repeated on the other shoulder. The front and back pieces are then joined on the same circular needle and finished back and forth. Stitches are knitted up for the sleeves around the armholes, the sleeve cap is worked first, back and forth before working the rest of the sleeve in the round. The bands are sewn together mid-back, then sewn to the neckline. If there is a «0» in your chosen size, skip the information and go straight to the next instruction. BACK PIECE: The piece is worked back and forth with PATTERN – read explanation above, as follows: Cast on 13-17-13-17-13-17-17 stitches with circular needle size 9 MM = US 13 and DROPS Snow. ROW 1 (wrong side): Purl. ROW 2 (right side): Read INCREASE TIP-1. Knit 4, increase 1 stitch towards the left, work A.1 until there are 4 stitches left on the row, increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit 4. ROW 3 (= wrong side): Read INCREASE TIP-2. Purl 4, increase 1 stitch towards the left, work A.1 (until there are 4 stitches left), increase 1 stitch towards the right, purl 4. Work ROWS 2 and 3 a total of 8-8-10-10-12-12-14 times (16-16-20-20-24-24-28 rows worked – the first 16 rows are drawn into the diagram; in the sizes with further increases, continue the pattern in the same way) = 45-49-53-57-61-65-73 stitches. Insert 1 marker outermost on one side. The piece is now measured from here! Continue the pattern with 4 stockinette stitches on each side (remember to maintain the knitting gauge), until the piece measures 11-12-12-10-10-11-12 cm = 4⅜"-4¾"-4¾"-4"-4"-4⅜"-4¾" from the marker, measured down the armhole. Now increase for the armholes. INCREASE FOR ARMHOLES: ROW 1 (right side): Remember INCREASE TIP-1. Knit 4, increase 1 stitch towards the left, continue the pattern until there are 4 stitches left, increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit 4. ROW 2 (wrong side): Continue the pattern with 4 purled stitches on each side. Work ROWS 1 and 2 a total of 2-2-2-4-4-4-4 times (4-4-4-8-8-8-8 rows worked) = 49-53-57-65-69-73-81 stitches. The increased stitches are worked into the pattern, always with 4 stockinette stitches on each side. Work until the piece measures 14-15-15-16-16-17-18 cm = 5½"-6"-6"-6¼"-6¼"-6¾"-7", from the marker, measured down the armhole. Finish after a row from the right side. Cut the strand. Place the stitches on a stitch holder/thread, work the left band and front piece along the left back shoulder as follows: LEFT BAND: Cast on 10 stitches with circular needle size 9 MM = US 13 and DROPS Snow. ROW 1 (right side): Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with strand in front, knit 1, work 8 garter stitches. ROW 2 (wrong side): Work 8 garter stitches, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with strand in front, knit 1. ROW 3 (right side): Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with strand in front, knit 1, work 5 garter stitches, turn and tighten the strand. ROW 4 (wrong side): Work 5 garter stitches, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with strand in front, knit 1. Work ROWS 1 to 4 until the band measures 5-7-5-7-5-7-7 cm = 2"-2¾"-2"-2¾"-2"-2¾"-2¾", along the shortest edge or approx. 10-14-10-14-10-14-14 cm = 4"-5½"-4"-5½"-4"-5½"-5½" along the I-cord (= ½ neck-width at back), finishing after a row from the wrong side. Now work the left front piece with the band as follows: LEFT FRONT PIECE: Find the left back shoulder as follows: Lay the back piece flat, right side up, with the stitch holder/thread towards you; left side of piece = left shoulder. Start from the right side by the neckline on the left back shoulder and work as follows: Work the 10 left band-stitches according to BANDS WITH I-CORD – read explanation above, then knit up 1 stitch in each row worked inside the outermost stitch (16-16-20-20-24-24-28 stitches along the shoulder) = 26-26-30-30-34-34-38 stitches. All length-measurements on the front piece are taken from this knitted-up row. ROW 1 (wrong side): Purl until there are 10 stitches left, work the 10 band-stitches with I-cord. ROW 2 (right side): Work the 10 band-stitches with I-cord, A.2A, then A.2B 2-2-3-3-4-4-5 times, work A.2C. ROW 3 (wrong side): Work A.2C, A.2B 2-2-3-3-4-4-5 times, then A.2A and 10 band-stitches as before. Work ROWS 2 and 3 until the piece measures 6-6-7-7-8-8-8 cm = 2⅜"-2⅜"-2¾"-2¾"-3⅛"-3⅛"-3⅛" from the knitted-up row. OVERVIEW OF NEXT SECTION: You now decrease within the band, increase for the V-neck and later increase for the armhole (the armhole-increases begin before the V-neck increases are finished and the band-decreases continue at the same time as the increases for the V-neck). Read the next 3 sections before continuing so you have an idea of when the decreases and increases occur. DECREASE WITHIN BAND: When the piece measures 6-6-7-7-8-8-8 cm = 2⅜"-2⅜"-2¾"-2¾"-3⅛"-3⅛"-3⅛" from the knitted-up row, decrease 1 stitch within the band by knitting together the last 2 garter stitches of the band (= 9th and 10th stitch). Decrease like this every 7-7-8-8-8-9-9 cm = 2¾"-2¾"-3⅛"-3⅛"-3⅛"-3½"-3½" a total of 3 times. After the last decrease there are 7 band-stitches left (= 2 stitches I-cord and 5 garter stitches). INCREASE FOR V-NECK: AT THE SAME TIME, when the piece measures 8-7-9-9-8-9-7 cm = 3⅛"-2¾"-3½"-3½"-3⅛"-3½"-2¾" from the knitted-up row, increase for the V-neck as follows (remember to continue the decreases within the band, they are not mentioned further in this section): ROW 1 (right side): Work the band as before, increase 1 stitch towards the left – remember INCREASE TIP-1, continue the pattern to the end of the row. ROW 2 (wrong side): Continue the pattern as far as the band then work the band-stitches as before. Increase like this every 4½-2½-5-3½-4-4-4½ cm = 1⅝"-1"-2"-1¼"-1½"-1½"-1⅝" a total of 5-9-5-7-7-7-7 times. The increased stitches are worked into the pattern but make sure you always have 2 to 3 stockinette stitches between A.2 and the band. INCREASE FOR ARMHOLE: When the piece measures 23-24-26-24-26-27-28 cm = 9"-9½"-10¼"-9½"-10¼"-10⅝"-11" from the knitted-up row, increase for the armhole as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Work the band as before, continue the pattern until there are 4 stitches left, increase 1 stitch towards the right – remember INCREASE TIP-1, knit 4 (= A.2C). ROW 2 (wrong side): Continue the pattern as far as the band, work the band-stitches as before. Work ROWS 1 and 2 a total of 2-2-2-4-4-4-4 times (4-4-4-8-8-8-8 rows worked). The increased stitches are worked into the pattern but make sure you always have 4 stockinette stitches by the armhole. When the band-decreases and the increases for the V-neck and armhole are finished, there are 30-34-34-38-42-42-46 stitches. Continue working until the piece measures 26-27-29-30-32-33-34 cm = 10¼"-10⅝"-11⅜"-11¾"-12½"-13"-13⅜", from the knitted-up row. Finish after a row from the right side. Cut the strand. Place the stitches on a stitch holder/thread and work the right band and front piece along the right back shoulder as follows: RIGHT BAND: Cast on 10 stitches with circular needle size 9 MM = US 13 and DROPS Snow. ROW 1 (right side): Work 8 garter stitches, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with strand in front, knit 1. ROW 2 (wrong side): Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with strand in front, knit 1 and work 8 garter stitches. ROW 3 (right side): Work 8 garter stitches, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with strand in front, knit 1. ROW 4 (wrong side): Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with strand in front, knit 1 and work 5 garter stitches, turn and tighten the strand. ROW 5 (right side): Work 5 garter stitches, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with strand in front, knit 1. Work ROWS 2 to 5 until the band measures 5-7-5-7-5-7-7 cm = 2"-2¾"-2"-2¾"-2"-2¾"-2¾", along the shortest edge or approx. 10-14-10-14-10-14-14 cm = 4"-5½"-4"-5½"-4"-5½"-5½" along the I-cord (= ½ neck-width at back), finish after row 2 (from the wrong side). Now work the right front piece with the band as follows: RIGHT FRONT PIECE: Start from the right side by the shoulder on the right back shoulder and work as follows: Knit up 1 stitch in each row worked inside the outermost stitch (16-16-20-20-24-24-28 stitches along the shoulder), place the 10 band-stitches back on the left needle and work them according to BANDS WITH I-CORD = 26-26-30-30-34-34-38 stitches. All length-measurements on the front piece are taken from this knitted-up row. ROW 1 (wrong side): Work 10 band-stitches with I-cord, purl to end of row. ROW 2 (right side): Work A.3A, then A.3B 2-2-3-3-4-4-5 times, work A.3C and 10 stitches with I-cord. ROW 3 (wrong side): Work 10 band-stitches as before, work A.3C, then A.3B 2-2-3-3-4-4-5 times, work A.3A. Work ROWS 2 and 3 until the piece measures 6-6-7-7-8-8-8 cm = 2⅜"-2⅜"-2¾"-2¾"-3⅛"-3⅛"-3⅛". OVERVIEW OF NEXT SECTION: You now decrease within the band, increase for the V-neck and later increase for the armhole (the armhole-increases begin before the increases for the V-neck and the band-decreases continue at the same time as the increases for the V-neck). Read the next 3 sections before continuing so you have an idea of when the decreases and increases occur. DECREASE WITHIN BAND: When the piece measures 6-6-7-7-8-8-8 cm = 2⅜"-2⅜"-2¾"-2¾"-3⅛"-3⅛"-3⅛" from the knitted-up row, decrease 1 stitch within the band from the right side, by knitting twisted together the 1st and 2nd stitch from the band (the first 2 garter stitches). Decrease like this every 7-7-8-8-8-9-9 cm = 2¾"-2¾"-3⅛"-3⅛"-3⅛"-3½"-3½" a total of 3 times. After the last decrease there are 7 band-stitches left (= 5 garter stitches and 2 stitches I-cord). INCREASE FOR V-NECK: AT THE SAME TIME, when the piece measures 8-7-9-9-8-9-7 cm = 3⅛"-2¾"-3½"-3½"-3⅛"-3½"-2¾" from the knitted-up row, increase for the V-neck as follows (remember to continue the band-decreases, they are not mentioned further in this section): ROW 1 (right side): Continue the pattern as far as the band, increase 1 stitch towards the right – remember INCREASE TIP-1, then work the band-stitches as before. ROW 2 (wrong side): Work the band as before, continue the pattern to the end of the row. Increase like this every 4½-2½-5-3½-4-4-4½ cm = 1⅝"-1"-2"-1¼"-1½"-1½"-1⅝" a total of 5-9-5-7-7-7-7 times. The increased stitches are worked into the pattern but make sure you always have 2 to 3 stockinette stitches between A.3 and the band. INCREASE FOR ARMHOLE: When the piece measures 23-24-26-24-26-27-28 cm = 9"-9½"-10¼"-9½"-10¼"-10⅝"-11", increase for the armhole as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Knit 4 (= A.3A), increase 1 stitch towards the left - remember INCREASE TIP-1, continue the pattern as far as the band, work the band as before. ROW 2 (wrong side): Work the band-stitches as before, continue the pattern to the end of the row. Continue working until the piece measures 26-27-29-30-32-33-34 cm = 10¼"-10⅝"-11⅜"-11¾"-12½"-13"-13⅜" from the knitted-up row. Finish after a row from the right side. The front and back pieces are joined as follows: BODY: From the wrong side, begin with the right front piece and work as follows: Work the 30-34-34-38-42-42-46 stitches on the right front piece as before, cast on 3 stitches at the end of the row (mid-under sleeve), work the 49-53-57-65-69-73-81 stitches from the back piece as before, cast on 3 stitches at the end of the row (mid-under sleeve), work the 30-34-34-38-42-42-46 stitches from the left front piece as before = 115-127-131-147-159-163-179 stitches. The piece is now measured from here! Continue the bands and pattern back and forth – the pattern fits under the sleeves. Remember to work the BUTTONHOLES – read explanation above. Work until the piece measures 45-47-48-49-50-51-53 cm = 17¾"-18½"-19"-19¼"-19¾"-20"-21" from the join. On the next row from the right side, begin the rib, AT THE SAME TIME increase 26-26-30-32-32-36-40 stitches evenly on the row (do not increase across the bands) = 141-153-161-179-191-199-219 stitches, working as follows: Change to circular needle size 7 MM = US 10.75, work the band as before, rib (knit 1, purl 1 – remember to increase) until there are 8 stitches left, knit 1 and work the band as before. When the rib measures 6-6-6-7-7-8-8 cm = 2⅜"-2⅜"-2⅜"-2¾"-2¾"-3⅛"-3⅛", work Italian bind-off or bind off with knit above knit and purl above purl. The jacket measures approx. 74-77-80-83-86-89-92 cm = 29⅛"-30⅜"-31½"-32¾"-33⅞"-35"-36¼" from the neck when laid flat. SLEEVES: The sleeves are worked top down. Lay the piece flat and insert 1 marker at the top of the armhole (NOTE! This is not the knitted-up row on the front piece but approx. 6 to 8 cm = 2⅜" to 3⅛" down the front piece). Use circular needle size 7 MM = US 10.75. Begin in the middle of the cast-on stitches under the sleeve and knit up 40-40-44-48-48-52-52 stitches, making sure there are equal numbers of stitches on both sides of the marker. Change to circular needle size 9 MM = US 13. Work A.4 back and forth with short rows for the sleeve cap as follows (to give the sleeve a better fit), starting mid-under the sleeve: NOTE: When working short rows, the pattern will not fit on each side but there will be more and more stitches each side as you continue the rows. ROW 1 (right side): Work to 4-4-4-8-8-8-8 stitches past the marker on top of the sleeve, turn – read KNITTING TIP. ROW 2 (wrong side): Work to 4-4-4-8-8-8-8 stitches past the marker, turn. ROW 3 (right side): Work to 2-2-2-2-2-2-2 stitches past the previous turn, turn. ROW 4 (= wrong side): Work to 2-2-2-2-2-2-2 stitches past the previous turn, turn. Repeat ROWS 3 and 4 until you have turned a total of 10-10-10-12-12-12-12 times (5-5-5-6-6-6-6 times on each side, with the last row from the wrong side). AFTER FINAL TURN: When row 4 has been worked for the final time, turn and work back to mid-under the sleeve from the right side. This is the beginning of the round. Insert 1 marker in the stitch mid-under the sleeve; this is used when decreasing under the sleeve. Allow the marker to follow your work onwards. Continue A.4 in the round. AT THE SAME TIME, when the sleeve measures 2 cm = ¾" in all sizes, decrease 2 stitches under the sleeve - read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this every 2-2-2-2-2-2-2 cm = ¾"-¾"-¾"-¾"-¾"-¾"-¾" a total of 2-2-2-4-4-4-4 times = 36-36-40-40-40-44-44 stitches – the stitches which do not fit the pattern while decreasing are worked in stockinette stitch. Continue working until the sleeve measures 42-42-41-39-38-36-33 cm = 16½"-16½"-16⅛"-15¼"-15"-14¼"-13" from the marker on the shoulder. Change to double pointed needles size 7 MM = US 10.75. Work rib (knit 1, purl 1) for 6-6-6-7-7-8-8 cm = 2⅜"-2⅜"-2⅜"-2¾"-2¾"-3⅛"-3⅛". Work Italian bind-off or bind off with rib. The sleeve measures approx. 48-48-47-46-45-44-41 cm = 19"-19"-18½"-18"-17¾"-17¼"-16⅛" from the marker. ASSEMBLY: Sew the 2 bands together mid-back, then sew them to the neckline. Sew the buttons onto the left band. |
