Is er ook een filmpje hoe de lange steek te maken? Breit men de opgenomen steek? Of hoe zorgt men anders dat de draad lang genoeg is en het werk niet trekt?

I have question please, why all Drops design patterns indicate how many Grams we need for a garment? The length is what makes a difference. For example if i by a yarn that is 100 m per 50g , is it the same as another yarn that has 150m per 50 gram? So we have to calculate the length of yarn we need for garment than search for yarns (if we want to change the yarn indicated) in the pattern. Is this correct? Why don’t you just specify the meters needed ? :)

Dear Dania, that's the method choosen to give the amount of yarn, but you are right depending on the yarn you will use the amount in grams will be different, you can use our yarn converter to get the new amount for the new yarn choosen. Happy knitting!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- RIDGE/GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows. 1 ridge = knit 2 rows. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.3. Stitches are decreased and increased throughout the pattern; the number of stitches in A.1 and A.3 will vary between 9 and 7, in A.2 they will vary between 12 and 10 stitches. The diagrams show all rows in the pattern from the right side. INCREASE/DECREASE TIP (evenly spaced): To work out how to increase/decrease evenly, count the total number of stitches on needle (e.g. 132 stitches), minus the edge stitches /the front band stitches (e.g. 2 stitches) and divide the remaining stitches by the number of increases/decreases to be made (e.g. 28) = 4.6. In this example, increase by making 1 yarn over after alternately each 4th and 5th stitch; do not increase on the edge stitches. On the next row work the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. When decreasing, knit together alternately each 3rd and 4th stitch and each 4th and 5th stitch. DECREASE TIP-2 (for sleeves): Decrease 1 stitch on either side of the marker thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). BUTTONHOLES: Work the buttonholes on the right band and from the right side. 1 BUTTONHOLE = knit together the 3rd and 4th stitch from the edge and make 1 yarn over. On the next row (wrong side) knit the yarn over to leave a hole. Work the buttonholes when the piece measures: S: 4, 12, 20, 28 and 36 cm = 1½", 4¾", 8", 11" and 14¼" M: 4, 12½, 21, 29½ and 38 cm = 1½", 5", 8¼", 11½" and 15" L: 3, 12, 21, 30 and 39 cm = 1⅛", 4¾", 8¼", 11¾" and 15¼" XL: 3½, 11, 18½, 26, 33½ and 41 cm = 1¼", 4⅜", 7⅛", 10¼", 13⅛" and 16⅛" XXL: 4½, 12, 19½, 27, 34½ and 42 cm = 1⅝", 4¾", 7⅝", 10⅝", 13½" and 16½" XXXL: 4, 12, 20, 28, 36 and 44 cm = 1½", 4¾", 8", 11", 14¼" and 17¼" ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JACKET – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The front and back pieces are worked separately, back and forth with circular needle, bottom up The sleeves are worked bottom up, in the round with short circular needle/double pointed needles, then the sleeve cap is worked back and forth. The neck is worked back and forth to finish. BACK PIECE: Cast on 132-144-152-164-176-200 stitches with circular needle size 2.5 MM = US 1.5 and DROPS Alpaca or DROPS Baby Alpaca Silk. Work as follows from the right side: 1 edge stitch in GARTER STITCH – read description above, work rib (knit 2, purl 2) until there are 3 stitches left, knit 2 and 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. Work back and forth with garter stitch over garter stitch, knit over knit, purl over purl until rib measures 2 cm = ¾" and the next row is worked from the wrong side. On the next row decrease as follows: work 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, purl while decreasing 28-31-30-33-36-42 stitches evenly spaced over the next 130-142-150-162-174-198 stitches - read INCREASE/DECREASE TIP, and work 1 edge stitch in garter stitch = 104-113-122-131-140-158 stitches. Change to circular needle size 3 MM = US 2.5 and work according to diagrams A.1 and A.2 as follows from the right side: 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, A.1 over the next 90-99-108-117-126-144 stitches (= 10-11-12-13-14-16 repeats of 9 stitches), A.2 (= 12 stitches) and 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. REMEMBER THE KNITTING GAUGE! Continue this pattern until the piece measures 25-26-27-28-29-30 cm = 9¾"-10¼"-10⅝"-11"-11⅜"-11¾" from the cast-on edge. Now start to bind off for the armholes at the beginning of each row as follows: Bind off 4 stitches 1 time, 3 stitches 0-0-0-1-2-2 times, 2 stitches 2-3-4-4-4-6 times and 1 stitch 2-3-4-5-4-6 times on each side = 84-87-90-91-96-102 stitches. Continue the pattern, making sure there are at least 4 stockinette stitches on each side by the armholes. Work until the piece measures 42-44-46-48-50-52 cm = 16½"-17¼"-18"-19"-19¾"-20½" from the cast-on edge. On the next row bind off the middle 36-37-40-39-40-42 stitches for the neck and each shoulder is finished separately. Continue the pattern as before, with the stitches which do not fit into a complete repeat worked in stockinette stitch. Bind off 1 stitch at the beginning of the next row from the neck = 22-23-23-24-26-28 stitches on the shoulder. Work until the piece measures 44-46-48-50-52-54 cm = 17¼"-18"-19"-19¾"-20½"-21¼" from the shoulder down. Bind off. Work the other shoulder in the same way. LEFT FRONT PIECE: Cast on 70-78-82-90-94-106 stitches with circular needle size 2.5 MM = US 1.5 and DROPS Alpaca or DROPS Baby Alpaca Silk. Work as follows from the right side: 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, work rib (purl 2, knit 2) until there are 5 stitches left and 5 band stitches in garter stitch. Work back and forth with garter stitch over garter stitch, knit over knit, purl over purl until rib measures 2 cm = ¾" and the next row is from the wrong side. On the next row decrease as follows: work 5 band stitches in garter stitch, purl while decreasing 12-16-15-18-18-21 stitches evenly spaced over the next 64-72-76-84-88-100 stitches - remember INCREASE/DECREASE TIP, and work 1 edge stitch in garter stitch = 58-62-67-72-76-85 stitches. Change to circular needle size 3 MM = US 2.5 and work according to diagrams A.1 and A.2 as follows from the right side: 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, 4-8-4-0-4-4 stitches in stockinette stitch, A.1 over the next 36-36-45-54-54-63 stitches (= 4-4-5-6-6-7 repeats of 9 stitches), work A.2 (= 12 stitches) and 5 band stitches in garter stitch. Continue this pattern until the piece measures 25-26-27-28-29-30 cm = 9¾"-10¼"-10⅝"-11"-11⅜"-11¾" from the cast-on edge. Now start to bind off for the armhole at the beginning of each row from the right side: Bind off 4 stitches 1 time, 3 stitches 0-0-0-1-2-2 times, 2 stitches 2-3-4-4-4-6 times and 1 stitch 2-3-4-5-4-6 times = 48-49-51-52-54-57 stitches. Continue the pattern, making sure there are at least 4 stockinette stitches on the side by the armhole. Work until the piece measures 36-38-39-41-42-44 cm = 14¼"-15"-15¼"-16⅛"-16½"-17¼" from the cast-on edge, with the next row from the right side. On the next row work until there are 15-15-17-17-17-18 stitches left and place these stitches on a thread for the neck without working them. Turn and work back from the wrong side. Continue working, binding off on each row from the wrong side as follows: 3 stitches 1 time, 2 stitches 2 times and 1 stitch 4 times = 22-23-23-24-26-28 stitches on the shoulder. Work until the piece measures 44-46-48-50-52-54 cm = 17¼"-18"-19"-19¾"-20½"-21¼" from the shoulder down. Bind off. RIGHT FRONT PIECE: Cast on 70-78-82-90-94-106 stitches with circular needle size 2.5 MM = US 1.5 and DROPS Alpaca or DROPS Baby Alpaca Silk. Work as follows from the right side: 5 band stitches in garter stitch, work rib (knit 2, purl 2) until there is 1 stitch left and 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. Work back and forth with garter stitch over garter stitch, knit over knit, purl over purl until rib measures 2 cm = ¾" and the next row is from the wrong side. On the next row decrease as follows: work 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, purl while decreasing 12-16-15-18-18-21 stitches evenly spaced over the next 64-72-76-84-88-100 stitches - remember INCREASE/DECREASE TIP, and work 5 band stitches in garter stitch = 58-62-67-72-76-85 stitches. Change to circular needle size 3 MM = US 2.5 and work according to diagrams A.2 and A.3 as follows from the right side: 5 band stitches in garter stitch, A.2 (= 12 stitches), A.3 over the next 36-36-45-54-54-63 stitches (= 4-4-5-6-6-7 repeats of 9 stitches), work 4-8-4-0-4-4 stitches in stockinette stitch and 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. Remember the BUTTONHOLES on the band – read description above. Continue this pattern until the piece measures 25-26-27-28-29-30 cm = 9¾"-10¼"-10⅝"-11"-11⅜"-11¾" from the cast-on edge. Now start to bind off for the armholes at the beginning of each row from the wrong side as follows: Bind off 4 stitches 1 time, 3 stitches 0-0-0-1-2-2 times, 2 stitches 2-3-4-4-4-6 times and 1 stitch 2-3-4-5-4-6 times = 48-49-51-52-54-57 stitches. Continue the pattern, making sure there are at least 4 stockinette stitches on the side by the armhole. Work until the piece measures 36-38-39-41-42-44 cm = 14¼"-15"-15¼"-16⅛"-16½"-17¼" from the cast-on edge and the next row is from the wrong side (the last buttonhole is worked here). On the next row work until there are 15-15-17-17-17-18 stitches left and place these stitches on a thread for the neck without working them. Turn and work back from the right side. Continue the pattern as before and bind off for the neck at the beginning of each row from the right side as follows: 3 stitches 1 time, 2 stitches 2 times and 1 stitch 4 times = 22-23-23-24-26-28 stitches on the shoulder. Work until the piece measures 44-46-48-50-52-54 cm = 17¼"-18"-19"-19¾"-20½"-21¼" from the shoulder down. Bind off. SLEEVE: Cast on 56-60-64-68-72-76 stitches with double pointed needles size 2.5 MM = US 1.5 and DROPS Alpaca or DROPS Baby Alpaca Silk. Work rib in the round (knit 2, purl 2) for 4 cm = 1½". Work 1 round where you knit 2 stitches in each stitch (knit in both the front and back loops; the number of stitches doubles) = 112-120-128-136-144-152 stitches. Change to short circular needle size 3 MM = US 2.5. Insert a marker thread at the beginning of the round = mid-under sleeve. Allow the thread to follow your work onwards; it will be used when decreasing later. Work stockinette stitch in the round. When the sleeve measures 9 cm = 3½" in all sizes, decrease 2 stitches under the sleeve - read DECREASE TIP-2. Decrease like this every 4th-4th-4th-3rd-3rd-3rd round a total of 16-18-19-20-20-21 times = 80-84-90-96-104-110 stitches. When the sleeve measures 39-39-39-38-38-37 cm = 15¼"-15¼"-15¼"-15"-15"-14½", increase 16-16-18-18-20-20 stitches evenly on the round - remember DECREASE/INCREASE TIP. After all the increases and decreases there are 96-100-108-114-124-130 stitches. When the sleeve measures 48-48-48-46-46-45 cm = 19"-19"-19"-18"-18"-17¾", work the next round as follows: Start 3 stitches before the marker thread, bind off 6 stitches and work to end of row. Now work the sleeve cap back and forth as follows: Work stockinette stitch and bind off at the beginning of each row as follows: 3 stitches 0-0-0-0-1-1 time, 2 stitches 3-4-4-4-4-4 times, 1 stitch 4-4-7-10-9-10 times, 2 stitches 4-4-3-3-3-4 times and 3 stitches 1-1-1-1-1-1 time on each side = 48-48-54-54-60-60 stitches. The next row is worked as follows from the right side: Work 8-8-9-9-10-10 stitches in stockinette stitch, knit together the next 32-32-36-36-40-40 stitches, 2 and 2 (= 16-16-18-18-20-20 stitches decreased), work 8-8-9-9-10-10 stitches in stockinette stitch = 32-32-36-36-40-40 stitches. Bind off. The sleeve measures approx. 56-57-58-58-58-58 cm = 22"-22½"-22¾"-22¾"-22¾"-22¾" from the top down. Work the other sleeve in the same way. ASSEMBLY: Sew the shoulder seams. Sew the side seams inside the 1 edge stitch. Sew in the sleeves, inside 1 stitch – there should be a small puff at the top of the sleeve. NECK: Use short circular needle size 2.5 MM = US 1.5 and DROPS Alpaca or DROPS Baby Alpaca Silk. Place the stitches from the thread on the right front piece on the needle and work these stitches, knit up stitches around the rest of the piece and place the stitches from the thread on the left front piece back on the needle and work them. Knit 1 row from the wrong side and adjust the number of stitches to 120-120-130-130-140-140 stitches (number of stitches should be divisible by 4). Work rib back and forth from the right side as follows: 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, work rib (knit 2, purl 2) until there are 3 stitches left, knit 2 and 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. Work this rib for 2 cm = ¾". Bind off with knit over knit and purl over purl. Cut and fasten the strand. |
