Should the collar be attatched at the start of the band or after?

Dear Mrs Purdy, collar should start on mid front (at the band), but feel free to start it after band if you rather like it that way. Happy knitting!

When picking up to form front pieces, should i also pick up from hem? Then when picking up for collar, should i also pick up from front pieces?
19.06.2021 - 21:07DROPS Design answered:
Dear Ruth, yes, after turning up and sewing down the bottom hem, when you pick up the stitches for the band, you should pick up at the edge of the hem too (through both layers). Happy Stitching!

Hej. Hvilke farver i DROPS Alpaca skal jeg vælge for at komme så tæt på de oprindelige farver som muligt? - det kan være svært at se på en skærm :-) Tak for hjælpen. Med venlig hilsen Eva

Gauge: 23 sts x 30 rows on needle size 3,5 mm = US 4 and stockinette stitch = 10 x 10 cm = 4" x 4". Remember that needle size only is recommended! Pattern: See diagram (1 diagram = 1 repeat). Diagram show the pattern from RS. The whole pattern works in stockinette stitch. Body: Knit in the round on circular needle after the edge and cut up at front and for armholes afterwards. Cast on 236 (246) sts on circular needle size 2,5 mm = US 1,5 with blue and work back and forth on needle like this: work 3 cm = 1⅛" in stockinette stitch, P1 row from RS (= fold – work is now measured from here), 3 cm = 1⅛" in stockinette stitch. Change to circular needle size 3,5 mm = US 4 and knit in the round at the same time cast on 5 sts center front (these sts are for cutting up later and are not knitted into the pattern), at the same time inc 28 (42) sts evenly distributed on first round = 264 (288) sts (+5sts). Work pattern following diagrams like this: * M.1, M.2, M.3, M.4, M.5 *, repeat from *-* to finished measure. Make sure to check your gauge. When piece measures 25 (27) cm = 9¾" (10⅝") cast on 5 new sts each side (these sts are for cutting up later and are not knitted into the pattern; front piece = 132 (144) sts (+5sts – make sure to get the 5 cutting sts centered in front piece), back piece = 132 (144) sts). When piece measures 46 (49) cm = 18" (19¼") bind off the center 32 (34) sts (+5sts) on front piece for neck. Then bind off towards neck on every other row: 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 1 time, 1 st 2 times. At the same time when piece measures 50 (53) cm = 19¾" (21") bind off the center 42 (44) sts on back piece for neck. Continue to bind off 1 st towards neck back on every other row 2 times. Bind off rem sts when piece measures 55 (58) cm = 21⅝" (22¾"). Sleeves: Cast on 52 (56) sts on double pointed needles size 2,5 mm = US 1,5 with blue and work 3 cm = 1⅛" in stockinette stitch, P1 row (= fold – work is now measured from here), 3 cm = 1⅛" in stockinette stitch. Change to double pointed needles size 3,5 mm = US 4, knit M.6 (make sure to place one repeat centered on the sleeve) and inc 10 (8) sts evenly distributed on first row = 62 (64) sts. Then inc under the sleeve: 2 sts 31 (32) times on S/M: every 4th row, M/L: alternately * every 3rd and 4th row * = 124 (128) sts. After M.6 continue with blue. When piece measures 41 (40) cm = 16⅛" (15¾") knit 2 rounds with green, M.2 (place one repeat centered on the sleeve), 2 rounds with green, 1 round with blue. Piece measures now approx 47 (46) cm = 18½" (18"). Continue with 2 cm = ¾" in reversed stockinette stitch to lining, bind off. Assembly: Sew in a marking thread down the middle of the inc sts center on front piece and each side for armholes. Sew two seams on sewing machine around marking thread, 1st seam = 1/2 st from thread, 2nd seam = 1/2 st from first seam. Cut up at front and for armholes. Sew shoulder seams. Fold edge at bottom of body and sleeves towards WS and sew. Pick up approx 120 sts along left front piece on circular needle size 2,5 mm = US 1,5 with blue and knit back and forth on needle like this; work 3 cm = 1⅛" in stockinette stitch, P1 row from RS (= fold – work is now measured from here), 3 cm = 1⅛" in stockinette stitch, bind off. Repeat along right front piece, but after 1 cm = ⅜" bind off for 5 button holes evenly distributed. 1 button hole = bind off 3 sts and cast on 3 new sts over the bind off sts on next row. Fold edges double towards WS over the cutting edge on body and sew. Pick up approx 110 sts around the neck on needle size 2,5 mm = US 1,5 with blue, work 2,5 cm = ⅞" in stockinette stitch, P1 row from RS (= fold – work is now measured from here), 2,5 cm = ⅞" in stockinette stitch, bind off and fold edge double towards WS and sew. Sew sleeves onto body from RS as follows: sew alternately 1 stitch in last row on sleeve before lining and 1 stitch on body after machine seam. Turn cardigan with WS out and sew lining from sleeve over cutting edge on body by hand. Sew on buttons. |
