------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 and A.2 RAGLAN: Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over, which is worked as follows on the next round: BEFORE RAGLAN-STITCH (yarn over twists to the right): Slip the yarn-over purl-wise from the left to the right needle, place it back onto the left needle by inserting the left needle through the back (the yarn over is now the other way round). Knit through the stitch loop that lies on the front of the needle (avoids a hole). AFTER RAGLAN-STITCH (yarn over twists to the left): Knit through the stitch loop that lies on the back of the needle (avoids a hole). SLEEVE TIP: When knitting up stitches under the sleeve, you can get a small hole in the transition between stitches on the body and sleeve. This hole can be closed by picking up the strand between 2 stitches and working this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SWEATER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The neck and yoke are worked in the round with circular needle, top down and from the right back shoulder, while increasing for raglan. When the yoke is finished, it is divided for the body and sleeves and the body is continued in the round, while the sleeves wait. The sleeves are worked top down, in the round. NECK: Cast on 92-96-100-104-108-112-116 stitches with circular needle size 3.5 MM = US 4 and DROPS Air. Work rib (knit 1 and purl 1) in the round for 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 cm = 1½"-1½"-1½"-1½"-2"-2"-2". Insert 1 marker after the first 20-20-21-22-23-24-24 stitches (approx. mid-front), the piece is now measured from here. YOKE: Change to circular needle size 5 MM = US 8. Insert 4 markers as follows, without working the stitches and inserting each marker in a stitch (raglan-stitches). You increase for raglan on each side of the raglan-stitches. Insert marker-1 in the first stitch, count 19 stitches (= sleeve), insert marker-2 in the next stitch, count 25-27-29-31-33-35-37 stitches (= front piece), insert marker-3 in the next stitch, count 19 stitches (= sleeve), insert marker-4 in the next stitch, there are 25-27-29-31-33-35-37 stitches left after the last marker (= back piece). Now work pattern on the sleeves and stockinette stitch on the front and back pieces. On the first round begin increasing for raglan and begin the pattern on the sleeves; read the next 2 sections before continuing. PATTERN: Work pattern across the middle stitches on each sleeve as follows: Knit 5, work A.1, knit 5. On the first round in A.1, 7 stitches are increased on each sleeve. When A.1 is finished in height, work A.2 above A.1. RAGLAN: ROUND 1: Work stockinette stitch and pattern, increasing for RAGLAN on each side of the raglan-stitches – read explanation above for how to increase (8 increased stitches). NOTE: At the beginning of the round increase after marker-stitch-1 and at the end of the round increase before marker-stitch-1. ROUND 2: Work stockinette stitch and pattern (remember to work the yarn overs as described under RAGLAN). Work ROUNDS 1 and 2 a total of 3-1-6-7-6-5-5 times (6-2-12-14-12-10-10 rounds worked) = 130-118-162-174-170-166-170 stitches. Remember to maintain the knitting gauge. Continue increasing for raglan as follows: ROUND 1: Work stockinette stitch and pattern, increasing for RAGLAN on each side of the raglan-stitches (8 increased stitches). ROUND 2: Work stockinette stitch and pattern. ROUND 3: Work stockinette stitch and pattern, increasing for raglan only on the front and back pieces, i.e., increase after markers 2 and 4 and before markers 3 and 1; do not increase across the sleeves (4 increased stitches). ROUND 4: Work stockinette stitch and pattern. Work ROUNDS 1 to 4 a total of 10-12-10-11-13-15-16 times (40-48-40-44-52-60-64 rounds worked: 10-12-10-11-13-15-16 increases in height on the sleeves and 20-24-20-22-26-30-32 increases in height on the front and back pieces) = 250-262-282-306-326-346-362 stitches. All increases for raglan are finished; a total of 23-25-26-29-32-35-37 increases in height on the front and back pieces and 13-13-16-18-19-20-21 increases in height on the sleeves. Continue stockinette stitch and pattern, without further increases, until the yoke measures 21-23-24-27-29-32-34 cm = 8¼"-9"-9½"-10⅝"-11⅜"-12½"-13⅜" from the marker mid-front. Now divide for the body and sleeves. DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: Knit the first stitch (belongs to the back piece), place the next 52-52-58-62-64-66-68 stitches on a thread/stitch holder for the sleeve, cast on 10-12-14-16-18-20-20 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), knit 73-79-83-91-99-107-113 stitches (= front piece), place the next 52-52-58-62-64-66-68 stitches on a thread/stitch holder for the sleeve, cast on 10-12-14-16-18-20-20 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), knit the last 72-78-82-90-98-106-112 stitches (= back piece). The body and sleeves are finished separately. BODY: = 166-182-194-214-234-254-266 stitches. Insert 1 marker in the middle of the 10-12-14-16-18-20-20 cast-on stitches under 1 sleeve. Work to the marker; the round now begins here. Work stockinette stitch in the round until the piece measures 41-43-45-47-48-50-52 cm = 16⅛"-17"-17¾"-18½"-19"-19¾"-20½" from the marker mid-front. Change to circular needle size 3.5 MM = US 4. Work rib (knit 1 and purl 1), AT THE SAME TIME increase 18-20-20-22-24-26-28 stitches evenly on the first round = 184-202-214-236-258-280-294 stitches. When the rib measures 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 cm = 1½"-1½"-1½"-1½"-2"-2"-2", bind off slightly loosely with rib. The sweater measures approx. 45-47-49-51-53-55-57 cm = 17¾"-18½"-19¼"-20"-21"-21⅝"-22½" from the marker mid-front and 50-52-54-56-58-60-62 cm = 19¾"-20½"-21¼"-22"-22¾"-23⅝"-24⅜" from the shoulder. SLEEVES: Place the 52-52-58-62-64-66-68 sleeve-stitches from one thread/stitch holder onto circular needle size 5 MM = US 8 and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 10-12-14-16-18-20-20 cast-on stitches under the sleeve – read SLEEVE TIP = 62-64-72-78-82-86-88 stitches. Insert a marker-thread in the middle of the new stitches under the sleeve. Work stockinette stitch and pattern in the round. AT THE SAME TIME, after 1 cm = ⅜", decrease mid-under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP as follows: Decrease 2 stitches 2 times every 2nd round, then 2 stitches 2-2-5-7-8-9-9 times every 4-4-4-3½-3-2½-2½ cm = 1½"-1½"-1½"-1¼"-1⅛"-1"-1" = 54-56-58-60-62-64-66 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 41-39-39-36-34-31-29 cm = 16⅛"-15¼"-15¼"-14¼"-13⅜"-12¼"-11⅜" from the division. Change to double pointed needles size 3.5 MM = US 4. Work rib (knit 1 and purl 1), AT THE SAME TIME increase 8-8-8-10-10-10-10 stitches evenly on the first round = 62-64-66-70-72-74-76 stitches. When the rib measures 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 cm = 1½"-1½"-1½"-1½"-2"-2"-2", bind off with rib. The sleeve measures approx. 45-43-43-40-39-36-34 cm = 17¾"-17"-17"-15¾"-15¼"-14¼"-13⅜" from the division. |
