This is a beautiful pattern but I am having great trouble setting the first row of the pattern, with the yo‘s. Do I knit im 4 in garter stitch then k1 before yo and similarly do I yo when knitting 2 together in the fourth knit 2 together 1A.B or afterwards. I really would appreciate the written instructions for this first line of the pattern. Thank you

Dear Kerry, we do not have the written instructons not only because our patterns are available in many languages, but also, because we belive that with diagrams, you see the pattern "en large, in other words, not only the very next step (stitch) but also how rows and stitches relate to each other. As for this pattern,in the A.1 diagrams, yes, you do knit 1 K stitch before the first YO, then after 4 K2TOG, there will be 1 knit stitch then 4 KTOG again, then a YO, etc. Happy Knitting!

Bon tricot!

Knitted scarf with lace pattern in DROPS Brushed Alpaca Silk.

GARTER STITCH (back and forth): 1 ridge = knit 2 rows. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.6. Diagrams show all rows in pattern seen from the right side. ---------------------------------------------------------- SCARF: Worked in 2 parts that are sewn together in the middle. PART 1: Cast on somewhat loosely 81 stitches on circular needle size 5 mm / US 8 with Brushed Alpaca Silk. Work 2 ridges in GARTER STITCH - see explanation above. Work next row as follows from the right side: 4 edge stitches in garter stitch, A.1A (= 13 stitches), A.1B over the next 48 stitches (= 2 repetitions of 24 stitches), A.1C (= 12 stitches) and 4 edge stitches in garter stitch. When A.1 has been worked 1 time vertically, there are 69 stitches on row. Then work A.2 with 4 edge stitches in garter stitch in each side. REMEMBER THE KNITTING GAUGE When A.2 has been worked 1 time vertically, there are 63 stitches on needle and piece measures approx. 25 cm / 9¾" vertically. Work next row as follows from the right side: 4 edge stitches in garter stitch, A.3A (= 7 stitches), A.3B over the next 42 stitches (= 7 repetitions of 6 stitches), A.3C (= 6 stitches) and finish with 4 edge stitches in garter stitch. Continue A.3 with 4 edge stitches in garter stitch in each side until piece measures approx. 89 cm / 35" from cast-on edge – finish after 1st or 5th row in diagram. Knit 1 row from wrong side and LOOSELY bind off by knitting from right side - NOTE: It is important to avoid a tight bind-off edge - to avoid this make 1 yarn-over after approx. every 7th stitch WHILE binding off (bind off yarn-overs as stitches). Knit another part the same way. Sew the two parts in the middle - sew inside bind-off edge so that there are 2 ridges in the middle of scarf. |
