Hi, I'd like to know what length to buy the DPNs, I know they are size 6mm but KnitPicks sells them in 5, 6 and 8 inch in length. What length would be best? Thanks!

Confused with the diagram part. Do I start from the bottom right of the chart and work my way up until 8 rounds are completed
02.10.2014 - 04:16DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Munden, that's correct, start from RS at the bottom corner on the right side and read towards the left (every row from RS will be read from right towards left), and from WS, read from left towards right. When the 8 rows are done, start again on 1st row. Happy knitting!

Hi there, I'm ordering 6mm DPNs and straight needles to make these slippers. What length should I buy for each?
02.10.2014 - 00:59DROPS Design answered:
Dear Chantal, you need a dpn-set (also called sock needle) and regular straight needles. Happy knitting!

Having trouble understanding working the foot for "Little Red Riding Slippers." Is it done on four needles or two... almost impossible for one needle to hold 72 stitches. Is there a site to give me assistance. T/you for your assistance.
29.09.2014 - 21:32DROPS Design answered:
Dear Sandra, when you have 72 sts you continue foot in the round, choose either double pointed needles or circular needle and magic loop system as you prefer. Happy knitting!

Dear Lynn, the video below shows you how to work a similar pattern (different pattern but same construction) - remember you can get help from the store where you bought your yarn. Happy knitting!

I'm confused on the loose leg section. You have 28 stitches on your needles; the pattern A.1 is only 8 stitches. I see you would do that twice for 2 cables (16 stitches), but how are the other 12 stitches worked? I love this pattern - I initially struggled as an intermediate knitter on the boot, but the video was extremely helpful and got me thru.
28.09.2014 - 16:14DROPS Design answered:
Dear Judi, read A.1 from RS starting at the bottom corner on the right side towards the left, from WS from the left towards the right - A.1 is a 28 sts x 8 rows repeat (read here how to read diagrams. Happy knitting!

And where do I place the markers...is it on the first and second needle
26.09.2014 - 19:32DROPS Design answered:
Dear Joanne, one marker should be placed on mid front (in the middle 9 sts worked back and forth) and the other one on mid back - make sure to have same number of sts each side of markers. Happy knitting!

26.09.2014 - 19:13DROPS Design answered:
Dear Joanne, you can divide your sts evenly accross the needles, make sure to mark the beg of round. Happy knitting!

GARTER ST (back and forth on needle): K all rows. 1 ridge = 2 rows K. GARTER ST (in the round on double pointed needles): * K 1 round and P 1 round *, repeat from *-*. 1 ridge = 2 rounds. PATTERN: See diagram A.1. Diagram shows pattern seen from RS. -------------------------------------------------------- SLIPPERS: LEG: Cast on 36-38-40 sts on double pointed needles size 6 mm / US 10 with Snow. Work in GARTER ST in the round - see explanation above - until piece measures approx. 4 cm / 1½", finish after 1 round P. FOOT: Now keep the first 9-11-11 sts on the round on the needle, slip the remaining 27-27-29 sts on 1 stitch holder. Continue in garter st back and forth over the 9-11-11 sts - AT THE SAME TIME on 1st row cast on 1 new st in each side (edge st) = 11-13-13 sts. When piece measures 7-8.5-10 cm / 2¾"-3¼"-4", bind off 1 edge st in each side = 9-11-11 sts. Then slip the sts from stitch holder back on needle and pick up 12-14-16 sts on each side of middle part (inside 1 edge st) = 60-66-72 sts on needle. Now measure piece from here. Insert 1 marker mid front of toe and 1 marker mid back on heel. Continue in the round in garter st. When piece measures 2 cm / ¾", K 2 sts tog on each side of every marker on every other round (= 4 sts less per round) continue dec until piece measures 5-5-6 cm / 2"-2"-2½" – bind off. Sew tog seam mid under foot in outermost st to avoid a chunky seam. LOOSE LEG WORKED ACROSS: Cast on 22 sts on needle size 6 mm / US 10 with Snow. Work 1 ridge in garter st, on last row inc 6 sts evenly = 28 sts. Work according to A.1 (= 28 sts) until piece measures approx. 32-33-35 cm / 12½"-13"-13¾", on last row dec 3 sts over every cable in A.1 = 22 sts. Work 1 ridge in garter st and bind off. Place cast-on edge over bind-off edge and sew on 3 buttons for decoration through the leg. Pull leg 2 cm / ¾" down on foot with buttons on the outside of slipper and sew leg to cast-on edge on slipper from WS with invisible stitches. Knit another slipper the same way, make sure that the leg opening is in the opposite side. |
