------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- INCREASE TIP-1: INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS LEFT – from RIGHT SIDE: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the row below, pick up the strand from the front and knit through the stitch-loop that lies on the back of the needle. INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS THE RIGHT- from RIGHT SIDE: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the row below, pick up the strand from the back and knit through the stitch-loop that lies on the front of the needle. INCREASE TIP-2: INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS THE RIGHT- from WRONG SIDE: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the row below, pick up the strand from the back and purl through the stitch-loop that lies on the front of the needle. INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS LEFT – from WRONG SIDE: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the row below, pick up the strand from the front and purl through the stitch-loop that lies on the back of the needle. INCREASE TIP-3: When increasing evenly on the first round of rib, it is important to increase in the stitches that will subsequently be purled, so the knitted stitches continue neatly from the stockinette stitch. SLEEVE TIP: When knitting up stitches under the sleeve, you can get a small hole in the transition between stitches on the body and sleeve. This hole can be closed by picking up the strand between 2 stitches and working this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SWEATER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE. The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. Work according to points 1 – 5. 1. BACK PIECE: Cast on stitches for the back of the neck. Work the back piece back and forth, top down, increasing stitches on each side until the shoulder stitch-count has been achieved. The back piece has slightly diagonal shoulders. 2. FRONT PIECE: Worked in 2 sections (each side of neck). Start by knitting up stitches along one back shoulder, working downwards and increasing for the neckline. Repeat on the other shoulder. Stitches are then cast on for the front neckline and the shoulders are joined for the front piece, which is continued back and forth to the correct measurement. 3. YOKE: Place all the stitches on the same circular needle, work first the front piece, knit up stitches for one sleeve along the side of the front piece, work the back piece, knit up stitches for the second sleeve along the other side of the other front piece. The yoke is continued in the round. 4. INCREASE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: While continuing the yoke, stitches are increased, first for the sleeves and later for both the body and sleeves. 5. BODY AND SLEEVES: When the increases and the yoke are finished, the yoke is divided for the body and sleeves. The body is finished in the round while the sleeves wait. Then the sleeves are worked in the round, top down. Stitches are knitted up around the neckline and the neck is worked in the round to finish. ------------------------------------------------------- BACK PIECE: The piece is worked back and forth. Cast on 37-37-37-37-39-39-39 stitches with circular needle size 4 MM = US 6 and DROPS Fiesta. ROW 1 (wrong side): Purl. ROW 2 (right side): Read INCREASE TIP-1. Knit 3, increase 1 stitch towards the left, knit until there are 3 stitches left on the row, increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit 3. ROW 3 (wrong side): Read INCREASE TIP-2. Purl 3, increase 1 stitch towards the right, purl until there are 3 stitches left on the row, increase 1 stitch towards the left, purl 3. AFTER ROW 3: Work ROWS 2 and 3 a total of 10-11-12-13-13-14-15 times (20-22-24-26-26-28-30 rows worked) = 77-81-85-89-91-95-99 stitches. Remember to maintain the knitting gauge. Cut the strand and place the stitches on a thread/stitch holder. LEFT SHOULDER: Find the left back shoulder as follows: Lay the back piece flat, right side up, with the stitch holder/thread towards you; left side of piece = left shoulder. Start from the right side by the neck on the left back shoulder and knit up 1 stitch in each row worked, inside the outermost stitch as far as the armhole (20-22-24-26-26-28-30 stitches), finish by knitting up 1 stitch outermost on the shoulder (edge stitch) = 21-23-25-27-27-29-31 shoulder-stitches. Insert 1 marker by the neck. All measurements on the front piece are taken from this marker measured in the knitting direction. Work stockinette stitch, with the first row from the wrong side. When the piece measures 6-6-7-8-8-9-10 cm = 2⅜"-2⅜"-2¾"-3⅛"-3⅛"-3½"-4", increase for the neckline as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Knit. ROW 2 (wrong side): Purl, cast on 1 stitch at the end of the row. Work ROWS 1 and 2 a total of 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 times (8-8-8-8-10-10-10 rows worked) = 25-27-29-31-32-34-36 stitches. The increases for the neckline are finished. The piece measures approx. 9-9-10-11-12-13-14 cm = 3½"-3½"-4"-4⅜"-4¾"-5⅛"-5½" from the marker. Approx. 2 cm = ¾" of the neckline depth will lie on the back piece. Cut the strand and place the stitches on a thread/stitch holder and work the right shoulder along the right back shoulder. RIGHT SHOULDER: Start from the right side by the armhole on the right back shoulder and knit up 1 stitch outermost on the shoulder (edge stitch), then knit up 1 stitch in each row worked, inside the outermost stitch as far as the neck (20-22-24-26-26-28-30 stitches) = 21-23-25-27-27-29-31 shoulder-stitches. Insert 1 marker by the neck. All measurements on the front piece are taken from this marker measured in the knitting direction. Work stockinette stitch, with the first row from the wrong side. When the piece measures 6-6-7-8-8-9-10 cm = 2⅜"-2⅜"-2¾"-3⅛"-3⅛"-3½"-4", increase for the neckline as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Knit, cast on 1 stitch at the end of the row. ROW 2 (wrong side): Purl. Work ROWS 1 and 2 a total of 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 times (8-8-8-8-10-10-10 rows worked) = 25-27-29-31-32-34-36 stitches. FRONT PIECE: On the next row (right side) join the front shoulders for the front piece as follows: Knit the 25-27-29-31-32-34-36 stitches on the right shoulder, cast on 27 stitches for the neckline, knit the 25-27-29-31-32-34-36 stitches on the left shoulder = 77-81-85-89-91-95-99 stitches. Continue stockinette stitch back and forth until the front piece measures 12-12-14-14-14-14-16 cm = 4¾"-4¾"-5½"-5½"-5½"-5½"-6¼" from the marker, with the last row from the wrong side. Now the front and back pieces are joined and stitches are knitted up for the sleeves as follows. ROW 1 (right side): Knit the first stitch on the front piece (this stitch belongs to the sleeve), insert 1 marker (beginning of round), knit until there is 1 stitch left on the front piece, insert 1 marker, knit the last stitch on the front piece (belongs to the sleeve), knit up 25-25-29-29-29-29-33 stitches along the left-hand side of the front piece (= sleeve-stitches which are knitted up inside the outermost stitch), knit the first stitch on the back piece (belongs to the sleeve), insert 1 marker, knit until there is 1 stitch left on the back piece, insert 1 marker, knit the last stitch on the back piece (belongs to the sleeve), knit up 25-25-29-29-29-29-33 stitches along the right-hand side of the front piece (= sleeve-stitches which are knitted up inside the outermost stitch) = 204-212-228-236-240-248-264 stitches. Knit the first stitch so the round begins in the transition between the front piece and the sleeve. There are 27-27-31-31-31-31-35 stitches on each sleeve and 75-79-83-87-89-93-97 stitches on the front and back pieces. YOKE: Continue in the round as follows: ROUND 1: Knit and increase 1 stitch on each side of the sleeves – remember INCREASE TIP-1, increasing 1 stitch towards the left at the beginning of the sleeve and 1 stitch towards the right at the end of the sleeve; the stitch count on each sleeve increases but remains the same on the front and back pieces. ROUND 2: Knit without increasing. Work ROUNDS 1 and 2 a total of 10-12-12-12-10-9-5 times (20-24-24-24-20-18-10 rounds worked. 10-12-12-12-10-9-5 increases in height on the sleeves, with 47-51-55-55-51-49-45 stitches on each sleeve and 75-79-83-87-89-93-97 stitches on the front and back pieces) = 244-260-276-284-280-284-284 stitches. You now increase on both the body and sleeves, increasing inside 2 stitches on the body so there are 2 stitches between the increases on the body and sleeves. Work as follows: ROUND 1: * Knit 2, increase 1 stitch towards the left, knit until there are 2 stitches left before the next marker, increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit 2, move the marker onto the right needle, increase 1 stitch towards the left, work to the next marker (= sleeve), increase 1 stitch towards the right, move the marker onto the right needle, * work from *-* 1 more time (8 increased stitches: 1 increased stitch on each side of 2 stitches in each transition between the body and sleeves). ROUND 2: Knit without increasing. Work ROUNDS 1 and 2 a total of 9-10-12-13-17-19-23 times (18-20-24-26-34-38-46 rounds worked). A total of 10-11-13-13-14-15-16 increases in height on the sleeves and 9-10-12-13-17-19-23 increases in height on the body: 65-71-79-81-85-87-91 stitches on each sleeve and 93-99-107-113-123-131-143 stitches on the front and back pieces = 316-340-372-388-416-436-468 stitches. The sleeve measures approx. 14-16-17-18-19-20-20 cm = 5½"-6¼"-6¾"-7"-7½"-8"-8". When the sweater is folded double at the shoulder, the piece measures approx. 20-22-24-25-26-27-28 cm = 8"-8¾"-9½"-9¾"-10¼"-10⅝"-11" from outermost on the shoulder and down the armhole. If the piece is shorter than this, continue working without further increases to the correct length. Now divide for the body and sleeves. DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES Knit the first 93-99-107-113-123-131-143 stitches (= front piece), place the next 65-71-79-81-85-87-91 stitches on a thread/stitch holder for the sleeve, cast on 4-6-6-8-10-12-12 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), knit 93-99-107-113-123-131-143 stitches (back piece), place the next 65-71-79-81-85-87-91 stitches on a thread/stitch holder for the sleeve, cast on 4-6-6-8-10-12-12 stitches (mid-under the sleeve). The body and sleeves are finished separately. BODY: = 194-210-226-242-266-286-310 stitches. Insert 1 marker in the middle of the 4-6-6-8-10-12-12 cast-on stitches under one sleeve. Knit to the marker; the round now begins here. Continue stockinette stitch in the round until the piece measures 46-48-50-52-53-55-57 cm = 18"-19"-19¾"-20½"-21"-21⅝"-22½" from the cast-on edge mid-back. Change to circular needle size 3 MM = US 2.5. Work rib (knit 1 and purl 1). AT THE SAME TIME increase 38-42-46-50-54-58-64 stitches evenly on the first round – read INCREASE TIP-3 = 232-252-272-292-320-344-374 stitches. When the rib measures 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 cm = 1½"-1½"-1½"-1½"-2"-2"-2", knit 1 round, then bind off with knit. The sweater measures approx. 50-52-54-56-58-60-62 cm = 19¾"-20½"-21¼"-22"-22¾"-23⅝"-24⅜" from mid-back and 52-54-56-58-60-62-64 cm = 20½"-21¼"-22"-22¾"-23⅝"-24⅜"-25¼" from top of shoulder. SLEEVES: Place the 65-71-79-81-85-87-91 sleeve-stitches from one stitch holder onto circular needle size 4 MM = US 6 and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 4-6-6-8-10-12-12 cast-on stitches under the sleeve – read SLEEVE TIP = 69-77-85-89-95-99-103 stitches. Insert a marker-thread in the middle of the 4-6-6-8-10-12-12 new stitches under the sleeve. The round starts by the marker-thread. Work stockinette stitch in the round. AT THE SAME TIME, after 1 round, decrease mid-under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP as follows: Decrease 2 stitches every 2nd round 2-2-2-3-3-4-4 times, then 2 stitches every 10-5-3-3-2½-2-2 cm = 4"-2"-1⅛"-1⅛"-1"-¾"-¾", 3-6-9-9-11-11-12 times = 59-61-63-65-67-69-71 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 37-35-34-34-32-31-31 cm = 14½"-13¾"-13⅜"-13⅜"-12½"-12¼"-12¼" from the division. Change to double pointed needles size 3 MM = US 2.5. Work rib (knit 1, purl 1), AT THE SAME TIME increase 11-13-13-13-13-15-15 stitches evenly on the first round – remember INCREASE TIP-3 = 70-74-76-78-80-84-86 stitches. When the rib measures 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 cm = 1½"-1½"-1½"-1½"-2"-2"-2", knit 1 round then bind off with knit. The sleeve measures approx. 41-39-38-38-37-36-36 cm = 16⅛"-15¼"-15"-15"-14½"-14¼"-14¼" from the division and 55-55-55-56-56-56-56 cm = 21⅝"-21⅝"-21⅝"-22"-22"-22"-22" from the picked-up edge on the shoulder. NECK: Use circular needle size 3 MM = US 2.5. Start from the right side, mid-back and knit up 104-104-106-108-116-118-120 stitches inside 1 stitch around the neckline. Work stockinette stitch in the round for 3-3-3½-3½-4-4-4½ cm = 1⅛"-1⅛"-1¼"-1¼"-1½"-1½"-1⅝". Work 2 rounds of rib (knit 1 and purl 1). Knit 2 rounds. Bind off slightly loosely with knit. |
