------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- RAGLAN: Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over, which is worked as follows on the next round: BEFORE MARKER (yarn over twists to the right): Slip the yarn-over purl-wise from the left to the right needle, place it back onto the left needle by inserting the left needle through the back (the yarn over is now the other way round). Knit through the stitch loop that lies on the front of the needle (avoids a hole). AFTER MARKER (yarn over twists to the left): Knit through the stitch loop that lies on the back of the needle (avoids a hole). The new stitches are continued in stockinette stitch. INCREASE TIP: When increasing evenly on the first round of rib, it is best to increase in the stitches that will subsequently be purled, so the knitted stitches continue neatly from the stockinette stitch. SLEEVE TIP: When knitting up stitches under the sleeve, you can get a small hole in the transition between stitches on the body and sleeve. This hole can be closed by picking up the strand between 2 stitches and working this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SWEATER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The neck and yoke are worked in the round with circular needle, top down and from the right back shoulder, while increasing for raglan. When the yoke is finished, it is divided for the body and sleeves and the body continued in the round, while the sleeves wait. The sleeves are worked top down, in the round. A neck-edge is knitted up and bind off with I-cord to finish. If there is a «0» in your chosen size, skip the information and go straight to the next instruction. YOKE: Cast on 52-52-54-56-58-60-64 stitches with circular needle size 8 MM = US 11, 1 strand DROPS Air and 1 strand DROPS Melody (2 strands). Knit 1 round. The round begins on the right back shoulder. Insert 1 marker after the first 16-16-17-17-18-18-19 stitches (approx. mid-front). The piece is measured from here. Insert 4 markers, without working the stitches and inserting each marker in a stitch (the raglan-stitches). You increase for raglan on each side of the raglan-stitches). Insert marker-1 in the first stitch, count 5 stitches (= sleeve), insert marker-2 in the next stitch, count 19-19-20-21-22-23-25 stitches (= front piece), insert marker-3 in the next stitch, count 5 stitches (= sleeve), insert marker-4 in the next stitch, there are 19-19-20-21-22-23-25 stitches left (= back piece). Work stockinette stitch in the round and increase for RAGLAN on each side of the raglan-stitches – read description in explanation on how to increase. Remember to maintain the knitting gauge. Increase for raglan every 2nd round, on each side of all the raglan-stitches, 14-14-16-16-17-17-17 times = 164-164-182-184-194-196-200 stitches (8 increased stitches on each increase-round). NOTE: At the beginning of the round increase after marker-stitch-1 and at the end of the round increase before marker-stitch-1. The sleeve-increases are finished. Continue increasing on the front and back pieces every 2nd round 0-1-1-2-2-4-5 more times = 164-168-186-192-202-212-220 stitches (= 4 increased stitches on each increase-round). Continue working without further increases until the yoke measures 20-22-24-26-27-30-31 cm = 8"-8¾"-9½"-10¼"-10⅝"-11¾"-12¼" from the marker mid-front. Now divide for the body and sleeves. DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: Place the first 35-35-39-39-41-41-41 stitches on a stitch holder for the sleeve, cast on 4-6-6-8-10-12-14 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), knit 47-49-54-57-60-65-69 (= front piece), place the next 35-35-39-39-41-41-41 stitches on a stitch holder for the sleeve, cast on 4-6-6-8-10-12-14 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), knit the last 47-49-54-57-60-65-69 stitches (= back piece). The body and sleeves are finished separately. BODY: = 102-110-120-130-140-154-166 stitches. Continue stockinette stitch in the round until the piece measures 48-50-52-54-56-58-60 cm = 19"-19¾"-20½"-21¼"-22"-22¾"-23⅝" from the marker mid-front. Change to circular needle size 6 MM = US 10. Work rib (knit 1, purl 1), AT THE SAME TIME increase 30-32-36-38-44-46-48 stitches evenly on the first round – read INCREASE TIP = 132-142-156-168-184-200-214 stitches. When the rib measures 3 cm = 1⅛", bind off with rib. The sweater measures approx. 51-53-55-57-59-61-63 cm = 20"-21"-21⅝"-22½"-23¼"-24"-24¾" from the marker mid-front and 54-56-58-60-62-64-66 cm = 21¼"-22"-22¾"-23⅝"-24⅜"-25¼"-26" from the shoulder. SLEEVES: Place the 35-35-39-39-41-41-41 sleeve-stitches from one stitch holder onto circular needle size 8 MM = US 11 and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 4-6-6-8-10-12-14 cast-on stitches under the sleeve – read SLEEVE TIP = 39-41-45-47-51-53-55 stitches. Insert a marker-thread in the middle of the 4-6-6-8-10-12-14 new stitches under the sleeve. The round starts by the marker-thread. Work stockinette stitch in the round. AT THE SAME TIME, when the sleeve measures 3 cm = 1⅛" from the division, decrease mid-under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP as follows: Decrease 2 stitches every 0-0-10-10-8-8-8 cm = 0"-0"-4"-4"-3⅛"-3⅛"-3⅛" a total of 1-1-2-2-3-3-3 times = 37-39-41-43-45-47-49 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 42-41-39-38-37-35-34 cm = 16½"-16⅛"-15¼"-15"-14½"-13¾"-13⅜" from the division. Change to double pointed needles size 6 MM = US 10. Work rib (knit 1, purl 1), AT THE SAME TIME increase 11-11-11-13-13-13-15 stitches evenly on the first round – remember INCREASE TIP = 48-50-52-56-58-60-64 stitches. When the rib measures 3 cm = 1⅛", bind off with rib. The sleeve measures approx. 45-44-42-41-40-38-37 cm = 17¾"-17¼"-16½"-16⅛"-15¾"-15"-14½" from the division. NECK: Use circular needle size 8 MM = US 11 and 1 strand of each quality (2 strands). Start from the right side on one shoulder line and knit up 52-52-54-56-58-60-64 stitches around the neckline, i.e., 1 stitch in each cast-on stitch. Now bind off with I-cord, making sure the edge is not tight. Start by casting on 2 stitches onto the right needle from the right side. Slip these 2 stitches onto the left needle so the working strand is 2 stitches in (when working the strand tightens the edge into a small tube). * Knit 1, knit the next 2 stitches twisted together, slip these 2 stitches back onto the left needle. Do not turn. * Repeat from *-* until there are 2 stitches left. Slip these 2 stitches back onto the left needle. Bind off. Sew a small stitch to join the beginning and end of the I-cord. |
