------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.6. The diagrams show the pattern from the right side. INCREASE TIP-1: INCREASE ONE STITCH TOWARDS THE LEFT, from right side: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the row below, the strand is picked up from the front and the stitch is knitted through the back loop. INCREASE ONE STITCH TOWARDS THE RIGHT, from right side: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the row below, the strand is picked up from the back and the stitch is knitted through the front loop. INCREASE TIP-2: INCREASE ONE STITCH TOWARDS THE LEFT, from wrong side: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the row below, the strand is picked up from the back and the stitch is purled through the front loop. INCREASE ONE STITCH TOWARDS THE RIGHT, from wrong side: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the row below, the strand is picked up from the front and the stitch is purled through the back loop. SLEEVE TIP: When knitting up stitches under the sleeve, you can get a small hole in the transition between stitches on the body and sleeve. This hole can be closed by picking up the strand between 2 stitches and working this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve. INCREASE TIP-3: When increasing evenly across the rib, it is important to increase across the stitches which will be purled onwards. The stockinette stitches will then be neater above the rib. DECREASE TIP (for sleeves): Decrease alternately before and after the marker-thread as follows: BEFORE MARKER-THREAD: Work until there are 2 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together (1 stitch decreased). AFTER MARKER-THREAD: Slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1, pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (1 stitch decreased). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SWEATER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE. The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. If there is a «0» in your chosen size, skip the information and go straight to the next instruction. Work according to points 1 – 5. 1 BACK PIECE: Cast on stitches for the back of the neck. Work the back piece back and forth, increasing stitches on each side until the shoulder stitch count has been achieved. The back piece has slightly diagonal shoulders. 2 FRONT PIECE: Is worked in 2 sections (each side of neck). Start by knitting up stitches along one back shoulder, working downwards and increasing for the neckline. Repeat on the other shoulder. Then stitches are cast on for the front neckline and the 2 shoulders are joined. The front piece is worked back and forth to the correct measurement. 3 YOKE: Place the front and back pieces on the same needle, working first the front piece, knitting up stitches for one sleeve along the side of the front piece, then working the back piece and knitting up stitches for the second sleeve along the other side of the front piece. Continue in the round. 4 INCREASE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: While working the yoke, increase stitches first for the sleeves and later for both the body and sleeves. 5 BODY AND SLEEVES: When the yoke is finished, it is divided and the body is continued in the round while the sleeves wait. Then the sleeves are worked top down. Stitches are knitted up around the neckline and the neck is worked to finish. BACK PIECE: The piece is worked back and forth. Cast on 10-10-10-10-12-12-12 stitches with circular needle size 15 MM = US 8 and DROPS Polaris. ROW 1 (wrong side): Purl. ROW 2 (right side): Read INCREASE TIP-1. Knit 3, increase 1 stitch towards the left, knit until there are 3 stitches left on the row, increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit 3. ROW 3 (wrong side): Read INCREASE TIP-2. Purl 3, increase 1 stitch towards the left, purl until there are 3 stitches left on the row, increase 1 stitch towards the right, purl 3. AFTER ROW 3: Work ROWS 2 and 3 a total of 5-5-5-6-6-6-7 times, then knit 1-1-1-0-0-1-0 row from the right side with increases (11-11-11-12-12-13-14 rows worked) = 32-32-32-34-36-38-40 stitches. Cut the strand and place the stitches on a stitch holder/thread. LEFT SHOULDER: Find the left back shoulder as follows: Lay the back piece flat, right side up, with the stitch holder/thread towards you; left side of piece = left shoulder. Start from the right side by the neck on the left back shoulder and knit up 1 stitch in each row worked, inside the outermost stitch as far as the armhole = 11-11-11-12-12-13-14 stitches. All length-measurements on the front piece are taken from this knitted-up row. Work pattern as follows (first row from the wrong side): ROW 1 (wrong side): Purl 2-2-2-3-4-5-6, make 1 yarn over, knit 3, purl 3-3-3-3-2-2-2, knit 3 = 12-12-12-13-13-14-15 stitches. ROW 2 (right side): Purl 3, knit 3-3-3-3-2-2-2, purl 3, knit the yarn over twisted, knit 2-2-2-3-4-5-6. Continue with knit above knit and purl above purl until the piece measures 4½-4½-5-5-3-3-4 cm = 1⅝"-1⅝"-2"-2"-1⅛"-1⅛"-1½". Now increase for the neckline as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Remember INCREASE TIP-1. Purl 3, knit 1, increase 1 stitch towards the left, work to end of row as before. ROW 2 (wrong side): Continue the pattern, with the increased stitches worked in stockinette stitch. Work ROWS 1 and 2 a total of 3-3-3-3-4-4-4 times (6-6-6-6-8-8-8 rows worked) = 15-15-15-16-17-18-19 stitches. The piece measures approx. 11-11-12-12-12-12-13 cm = 4⅜"-4⅜"-4¾"-4¾"-4¾"-4¾"-5⅛" from the stitches picked up. A little of the neck-length will lie on the back piece. Neck-length in front = 10-10-11-11-10-10-11 cm = 4"-4"-4⅜"-4⅜"-4"-4"-4⅜". Neck-length at back = 1-1-1-1-2-2-2 cm = ⅜"-⅜"-⅜"-⅜"-⅜"-⅜"-⅜". Place the stitches on a stitch holder/thread and work the right front shoulder along the right back shoulder. RIGHT SHOULDER: Start from the right side by the armhole on the right back shoulder and knit up 1 stitch in each row worked, inside the outermost stitch as far as the neckline = 11-11-11-12-12-13-14 stitches. All length-measurements on the front piece are taken from this knitted-up row. Work pattern as follows (first row from the wrong side): ROW 1 (wrong side): Knit 3, purl 3-3-3-3-2-2-2, knit 3, make 1 yarn over, purl 2-2-2-3-4-5-6 = 12-12-12-13-13-14-15 stitches. ROW 2 (right side): Knit 2-2-2-3-4-5-6, knit the yarn over twisted, purl 3, knit 3-3-3-3-2-2-2, purl 3. Continue the pattern until there are 4 stitches left, increase 1 stitch towards the right, work to end of row as before. FRONT PIECE: On the next row (right side) join the front shoulders for the front piece as follows: Knit 0-0-0-1-2-3-4, work A.1 (2 increased stitches on the first row), cast on 6 stitches at the end of the row, work A.3 across the left front shoulder (2 increased stitches on the first row), finish with knit 0-0-0-1-2-3-4 = 40-40-40-42-44-46-48 stitches. From the wrong side: Purl 0-0-0-1-2-3-4, work A.3, A.2, A.1, purl 0-0-0-1-2-3-4, Continue this pattern (on the 5th row, 2 stitches are increased in diagram A.2 = 42-42-42-44-46-48-50 stitches). At the same time, when the piece measures 14-14-15-15-16-16-17 cm = 5½"-5½"-6"-6"-6¼"-6¼"-6¾" from the knitted-up row, knit up stitches for the sleeves as follows: ROW 1: Knit together the first 2 stitches on the front piece (1 stitch decreased), continue the pattern until there are 2 stitches left on the front piece, slip 1 stitch, knit 1, pass the slipped stitch over (1 stitch decreased), insert 1 marker, knit up 10-10-10-10-12-12-12 stitches along the side of the left front piece (= sleeve-stitches – the stitches are knitted up inside the outermost stitch), insert 1 marker, knit together the first 2 stitches on the back piece (1 stitch decreased), continue stockinette stitch until there are 2 stitches left on the back piece, slip 1 stitch, knit 1, pass the slipped stitch over (1 stitch decreased), insert 1 marker, knit up 10-10-10-10-12-12-12 stitches along the side of the right front piece (= sleeve-stitches – the stitches are knitted up inside the outermost stitch), insert 1 marker = 90-90-90-94-102-106-110 stitches. YOKE: The piece is now continued in the round. ROUND 1: Continue with pattern on front piece and stockinette stitch on back piece and sleeves, increasing 1 stitch on each side of the sleeves – remember INCREASE TIP-1 – increase 1 stitch towards the left at the beginning of the sleeve and 1 stitch towards the right at the end of the sleeve. The stitch count on the sleeves increases but remains the same on the front and back pieces. Work the new stitches in stockinette stitch. Work this round 3-2-2-3-3-3-3 times: 16-14-14-16-18-18-18 stitches on each sleeve, 40-40-40-42-44-46-48 stitches on the front piece and 30-30-30-32-34-36-38 stitches on the back piece = 102-98-98-106-114-118-122 stitches. Continue as follows: ROUND 1: Knit 2, increase 1 stitch towards the left, continue the pattern until there are 2 stitches left on the front piece before the marker, increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit 2, move the marker onto the right needle, increase 1 stitch towards the left, knit to the next marker (= sleeve), increase 1 stitch towards the right, move the marker onto the right needle, knit 2, increase 1 stitch towards the left, knit until there are 2 stitches left on the back piece before the marker, increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit 2, move the marker onto the right needle, increase 1 stitch towards the left, knit to the next marker (= sleeve), increase 1 stitch towards the right, move the marker onto the right needle (= 8 increased stitches. You have increased on each side of 2 knitted stitches in each transition between the body and sleeves. The new stitches are worked in stockinette stitch. ROUND 2: Continue the pattern without increasing. Work ROUNDS 1 and 2 a total of 3-5-6-6-6-7-8 times (6-10-12-12-12-14-16 rounds worked. A total of 6-7-8-9-9-10-11 increases in height on the sleeves and 3-5-6-6-6-7-8 increases in height on the front and back piece: 22-24-26-28-30-32-34 stitches on each sleeve, 46-50-52-54-56-60-64 stitches on the front piece and 36-40-42-44-46-50-54 stitches on the back piece) = 126-138-146-154-162-174-186 stitches. The piece measures approx. 13-16-18-20-20-23-24 cm = 5⅛"-6¼"-7"-8"-8"-9"-9½", measured down the middle of the sleeve from the knitted up stitches. When the sweater is folded double at the shoulder, the piece measures approx. 20-23-25-27-29-32-33 cm = 8"-9"-9¾"-10⅝"-11⅜"-12½"-13" along the armhole. Now divide for the body and sleeves. DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: Work the first 46-50-52-54-56-60-64 stitches as before (= front piece), place the next 22-24-26-28-30-32-34 stitches on a stitch holder/thread for the sleeve, cast on 2 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), knit 36-40-42-44-46-50-54 (= back piece), place the next 22-24-26-28-30-32-34 stitches on a stitch holder/thread for the sleeve, cast on 2 stitches (mid-under the sleeve). The body and sleeves are finished separately. BODY: = 86-94-98-102-106-114-122 stitches. Continue pattern and stockinette stitch in the round for a further 27-25-25-24-24-24-23 cm = 10⅝"-9¾"-9¾"-9½"-9½"-9½"-9". Now work rib and increase as follows: Work as far as the 42 pattern-stitches mid-front. Start the round here. This allows the increases to be more easily spaced. Use circular needle size 8 MM = US 11. Work A.4 above A.1, A.5 above A.2, A.6 above A.3 (you both increase and decrease, with 4 more stitches across the 42 stitches = 46 stitches) then work rib (knit 2, purl 2) to the end of the round, increasing 18-22-26-26-34-38-42 stitches evenly spaced – read INCREASE TIP-3 = 108-120-128-132-144-156-168 stitches. Work 6 rounds of rib. Bind off slightly loosely with knit above knit and purl above purl. The sweater measures approx. 58-60-62-64-66-68-70 cm = 22¾"-23⅝"-24⅜"-25¼"-26"-26¾"-27½". SLEEVES: Place the 22-24-26-28-30-32-34 sleeve-stitches from one stitch holder/thread on circular needle size 15 MM = US 8 – use magic loop-. In addition, knit up 1 stitch in each of the 2 cast-on stitches under the sleeve – read SLEEVE TIP = 24-26-28-30-32-34-36 stitches. Insert 1 marker-thread between the 2 cast-on stitches. The round starts here. Knit 2 rounds, then begin decreasing 1 stitch alternately before and after the marker-thread – read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this every 5-4-4-4-3-1½-1½ cm = 2"-1½"-1½"-1½"-1⅛"-½"-½" a total of 4-6-6-6-8-10-10 times = 20-20-22-24-24-24-26 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 47-48-49-48-48-48-47 cm = 18½"-19"-19¼"-19"-19"-19"-18½" from the shoulder. Change to double pointed needles size 8 MM = US 11. Work rib (knit 2, purl 3), AT THE SAME TIME increase 8-8-6-8-8-8-6 stitches evenly on the first round – remember INCREASE TIP-3 = 28-28-28-28-32-32-32 stitches. Work 6 rounds of rib. Bind off slightly loosely with rib. The sleeve measures approx. 52-53-54-53-53-53-52 cm = 20½"-21"-21¼"-21"-21"-21"-20½" from the shoulder. NECK: Use circular needle size 8 MM = US 11. Start from the right side on one shoulder-line and knit up 44-52 stitches inside 1 stitch, adjusting so you knit up 6 stitches neatly across the cable mid-front. The stitch count must be divisible by 4. Work rib in the round (knit 2, purl 2) for 6 rounds. Bind off slightly loosely with rib. |
