------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagram A.1. INCREASE TIP: Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over, which is knitted twisted on the next round to avoid a hole. RAGLAN: Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over, which is worked as follows on the next round. The new stitch is then worked in stockinette stitch: BEFORE MARKER-STITCH: Slip the yarn over from the left needle and replace it the other way round (insert the left needle through the back loop when replacing it). Knit the front loop – no hole. AFTER MARKER-STITCH: Knit the back loop – no hole. DECREASE TIP (for sleeves): Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SWEATER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The neck and yoke are worked in the round with circular needle, top down. When the yoke is finished it is divided for body and sleeves and the body is continued in the round, while the sleeves wait. The sleeves are worked in the round, top down. The neck is folded double and sewn down to finish. NECK: Cast on 99-99-102-102-108-108 stitches with circular needle size 5 MM = US 8, 1 strand DROPS Alpaca and 1 strand DROPS Kid-Silk or 1 strand DROPS Baby Merino and 1 strand DROPS Kid-Silk (= 2 strands). Change to circular needle size 3.5 MM = US 4 (casting on with a larger needle size makes the cast-on edge elastic). Work rib in the round (knit 1, purl 2) for 8 cm = 3⅛". This neck is folded double to finish, leaving a neck of 4 cm = 1½". Insert 1 marker in the round; the yoke is measured from here. YOKE: Change to circular needle size 5 MM = US 8. Knit 1 round and increase 13-13-24-24-32-32 stitches evenly spaced – read INCREASE TIP = 112-112-126-126-140-140 stitches. Insert 1 marker-thread at the beginning of the round. Work PATTERN – read description above, working A.1 16-16-18-18-20-20 times on the round. When A.1 is finished in height, insert 4 markers as follows, without working the stitches and making sure the markers are inserted in the middle stitch of their A.1. These markers are used when increasing for raglan. Count 3 stitches, insert 1 marker in the next stitch, count 27 stitches (= sleeve), insert 1 marker in the next stitch, count 27-27-34-34-41-41 stitches (= front piece), insert 1 marker in the next stitch, count 27 stitches (= sleeve), insert 1 marker in the next stitch, there are 27-27-34-34-41-41 stitches left after the last marker (= back piece). Work stockinette stitch in the round and increase for RAGLAN on each side of all 4 marker-stitches - read description above (= 8 increased stitches). Increase for raglan every 2nd round a total of 15-17-19-21-22-24 times = 232-248-278-294-316-332 stitches. REMEMBER THE KNITTING GAUGE! Continue with stockinette stitch but without further increases until the yoke measures 17-19-20-22-23-25 cm = 6¾"-7½"-8"-8¾"-9"-9¾" from the neck-marker. DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: Work up to and including 4-4-1-3-3-5 stitches after the first marker-stitch (part of back piece). Now divide as follows: Place the next 49-53-63-63-65-65 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 8-10-12-14-14-16 stitches (= in side under sleeve), knit 67-71-76-84-93-101 (= front piece), place the next 49-53-63-63-65-65 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 8-10-12-14-14-16 stitches (= in side under sleeve), knit the last 67-71-76-84-93-101 stitches (= back piece). The body and sleeves are finished separately. The piece is now measured from here! BODY: = 150-162-176-196-214-234 stitches. Continue with stockinette stitch in the round until the body measures 19-19-20-20-21-21 cm = 7½"-7½"-8"-8"-8¼"-8¼" from the division. Change to circular needle size 3.5 MM = US 4. Work rib (knit 1, purl 2), AT THE SAME TIME increase 18-21-22-23-26-27 stitches evenly on the first round = 168-183-198-219-240-261 stitches. When the rib measures 6 cm = 2⅜", bind off with rib a little loosely. The sweater measures approx. 50-52-54-56-58-60 cm = 19¾"-20½"-21¼"-22"-22¾"-23⅝" from the shoulder. SLEEVES: Place the 49-53-63-63-65-65 sleeve-stitches from the thread on the one side of the piece on circular needle size 5 MM = US 8 and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 8-10-12-14-14-16 stitches cast on under the sleeve = 57-63-75-77-79-81 stitches. Insert a marker-thread in the middle of the 8-10-12-14-14-16 stitches under the sleeve. Start at the marker-thread and work stockinette stitch in the round. When the sleeve measures 2 cm = ¾" from the division, decrease 2 stitches under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this every 2-2-1-1-1-1 cm = ¾"-¾"-⅜"-⅜"-⅜"-⅜" a total of 6-6-9-8-5-4 times = 45-51-57-61-69-73 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 16-15-13-12-10-9 cm = 6¼"-6"-5⅛"-4¾"-4"-3½" from the division. Change to double pointed needles size 3.5 MM = US 4. Work rib (knit 1, purl 2), AT THE SAME TIME increase3-6-6-8-9-8 4 stitches evenly spaced on round 1 = 48-57-63-69-78-81 stitches. When the rib measures 6 cm = 2⅜", bind off with rib a little loosely. The sleeve measures approx. 22-21-19-18-16-15 cm = 8¾"-8¼"-7½"-7"-6¼"-6" from the division. ASSEMBLY: Fold rib at the top of neck down on inside of garment. Fasten rib to get a double neck edge. To avoid a tight neck edge that sticks out it is important to keep the seam elastic. |
