------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 and A.2. The diagrams show all rows in the pattern from the right side. INCREASE TIP (for sleeves): Start 1 stitch before the marker-thread, make 1 yarn over, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), make 1 yarn over. On the next round knit the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes (2 increased stitches). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SWEATER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE. The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The piece is worked in the round, bottom up as far as the armholes, then divided and the front and back pieces finished separately back and forth. The sleeves are worked in the round, bottom up as far as the armhole, then finished back and forth. The sections are sewn together and the neck worked in the round to finish. BODY: Cast on 222-246-264-282-306-336 stitches with circular needle size 3.5 MM = US 4 and DROPS Air. Work A.1 in the round. When A.1 is finished in height, the rib measures approx. 6 cm = 2⅜". Change to circular needle size 4.5 MM = US 7. Work A.2 in the round, AT THE SAME TIME on the first round, decrease 38-46-48-50-58-64 stitches evenly spaced = 184-200-216-232-248-272 stitches. REMEMBER THE KNITTING GAUGE! Continue the pattern until the body measures 33-34-35-36-37-38 cm = 13"-13⅜"-13¾"-14¼"-14½"-15" – with the next round an odd row in the pattern. DIVIDE FOR THE ARMHOLES: On the next round divide for the armholes, working as follows: Bind off 1-5-5-9-9-11 stitches for the armhole, work 1 stockinette stitch, continue A.2 over the next 88-88-96-96-104-112 stitches (front piece), work 1 stockinette stitch, bind off 2-10-10-18-18-22 stitches for the armhole, work 1 stockinette stitch, continue A.2 over the next 88-88-96-96-104-112 stitches, work 1 stockinette stitch (back piece) bind off the last 1-5-5-9-9-11 stitches for the armhole. Cut the strand. Finish each piece separately back and forth. BACK PIECE: = 90-90-98-98-106-114 stitches. Working the first row from the wrong side, continue the pattern with 1 stockinette stitch on each side. When A.2 has been worked a total of 4 times in height, continue with stockinette stitch over all stitches to finished length. AT THE SAME TIME when the piece measures 18-19-20-21-22-23 cm = 7"-7½"-8"-8¼"-8¾"-9" from the division, bind off the middle 26-26-28-28-30-30 stitches for the neckline and finish each shoulder separately. Bind off 1 stitch on the next row from the neck, AT THE SAME TIME bind off for the diagonal shoulder on every row from armhole. Bind off 7-7-8-8-9-10 stitches a total of 3 times then cast off the remaining stitches. The piece measures approx. 54-56-58-60-62-64 cm = 21¼"-22"-22¾"-23⅝"-24⅜"-25¼" measured close to the neck and down. Work the other shoulder in the same way. FRONT PIECE: Place the 90-90-98-98-106-114 front piece stitches on circular needle size 4.5 MM = US 7. Working the first row from the wrong side, continue the pattern with 1 stockinette stitch on each side. When A.2 has been worked a total of 4 times in height, continue with stockinette stitch over all stitches to finished length. AT THE SAME TIME when the piece measures 14 cm = 5½" from the division, slip the middle 20-20-22-22-24-24 stitches on a thread for the neckline (= 35-35-38-38-41-45 shoulder-stitches) and finish each shoulder separately. Bind off 1 stitch on each row from the neck a total of 4 times = 31-31-34-34-37-41 stitches. When the piece measures 18-19-20-21-22-23 cm = 7"-7½"-8"-8¼"-8¾"-9" from the division, bind off for the diagonal shoulder on every row from armhole. SLEEVES: Cast on 66-66-72-78-78 stitches with double pointed needles size 3.5 MM = US 4. Work A.1 in the round. When A.1 is finished in height, repeat the pattern until the rib measures 8-8-9-9-10-10 cm = 3⅛"-3⅛"-3½"-3½"-4"-4" (finishing after a round of stockinette stitch in the pattern). Change to double pointed needles size 4.5 MM = US 7. Continue with stockinette stitch, AT THE SAME TIME on the first round, decrease 18-16-20-18-22-20 stitches evenly spaced = 48-50-52-54-56-58 stitches. Insert 1 marker-thread at the beginning of the round and allow it to follow your work onwards; it is used when increasing under the sleeve When the sleeve measures 12 cm = 4¾", increase 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread - read INCREASE TIP. Increase like this every 4½-4-3-2½-2½-2 cm = 1⅝"-1½"-1⅛"-1"-1"-¾" a total of 8-9-10-11-12-12 times = 64-68-72-76-80-82 stitches. Work until the sleeve measures 46-45-44-43-42-39 cm = 18"-17¾"-17¼"-17"-16½"-15¼". Continue stockinette stitch back and forth from the marker-thread, until the sleeve measures 47-48-47-48-47-46 cm = 18½"-19"-18½"-19"-18½"-18", i.e., a split of 1-3-3-5-5-7 cm = ⅜"-1⅛"-1⅛"-2"-2"-2¾". Bind off. ASSEMBLY: Sew the shoulder seams. Sew the sleeves into the body, with the split at the top of the sleeve sewn to the bottom of the armhole - see sketch. DOUBLE NECK: Use circular needle size 3.5 MM = US 4. Start on one shoulder seam and knit up around the neck from the right side, 108 to 132 stitches (including the stitches from the thread in front) – stitch count must be divisible by 4. Work rib in the round (knit 2, purl 2) for 13 cm = 5⅛". Bind off a little loosely. Fold the neck double to the inside and fasten with a couple of stitches. |
