Hi is this knitted with double yarn? as the amount of wool needed is far greater than all of the other patterns I’ve used before

Hi Rebecca, No, the jacket is worked with a single strand of Drops Snow. Happy Christmas!

Reihe zunehmen. Hoffentlich kann das Ihnen helfen. Viel Spaß beim Stricken!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows. 1 ridge = knit 2 rows. RAGLAN: All increases are worked from the right side! Increase 1 stitch before/after the 4 marker-stitches by making 1 yarn over. The yarn overs are then worked as follows from the wrong side: BEFORE marker-stitch: Purl the yarn over twisted – no hole. AFTER marker-stitch: Slip the yarn over knit-wise, insert the left needle in the yarn over and place it back on the left needle (twisted), purl. No hole. INCREASE TIP: Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over. On the next row/round work the yarn over twisted to avoid a hole. DECREASE TIP (mid-under sleeves): BEFORE marker-thread: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 1, marker-thread (1 stitch decreased). AFTER marker-thread: Knit 1, slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (1 stitch decreased). BUTTONHOLES: Work buttonholes on the right band (when the garment is worn). Work from the right side when there are 4 stitches left on the row as follows: Make 1 yarn over, knit 2 together and knit 2. On the next row (wrong side), knit the yarn over to leave a hole. The first buttonhole is worked on the first row from the right side on the yoke (after the neckline has been worked). Then work the other 4-4-5-5-5-5 buttonholes with approx. 9½-10-8½-9-9½-9½ cm = 3⅝"-4"-3¼"-3½"-3⅝"-3⅝" between each one. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JACKET – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE. The neckline is worked with short rows, then the yoke is worked back and forth on circular needle, from mid front and top down. The yoke is divided for body and sleeves and the body continued back and forth with circular needle. The sleeves are worked in the round with double pointed needles/short circular needle, top down. Stitches are knitted up around the neckline and the neck worked to finish. NECKLINE: Cast on 42-42-44-44-46-46 stitches with circular needle size 9 MM = US 13 and DROPS Snow. Insert 4 markers as follows: 1 marker in the first stitch, count 12 stitches (sleeve), insert 1 marker in the next stitch, count 14-14-16-16-18-18 stitches (back piece), insert 1 marker in the next stitch, count 12 stitches (sleeve), insert 1 marker in the last stitch (4 raglan-stitches). Work back and forth as follows: ROW 1 (wrong side): Purl and cast on 2 stitches at the end of the row = 44-44-46-46-48-48 stitches. ROW 2 (right side): Knit and increase for RAGLAN on each side of all 4 raglan-stitches– read description above (8 increased stitches), cast on 2 stitches at the end of the row = 54-54-56-56-58-58 stitches. ROW 3 (wrong side): Purl (yarn overs purled twisted as described under Raglan), cast on 2 stitches at the end of the row = 56-56-58-58-60-60 stitches. ROW 4 (right side): Knit and increase for raglan on each side of all 4 raglan-stitches (8 increased stitches), cast on 2 stitches at the end of the row = 66-66-68-68-70-70 stitches. ROW 5 (wrong side): Purl (yarn overs are purled twisted as described under Raglan), cast on 9-9-10-10-11-11 stitches at the end of the row = 75-75-78-78-81-81 stitches. ROW 6 (right side): Knit and increase for raglan on each side of all 4 raglan-stitches (8 increased stitches), cast on 9-9-10-10-11-11 stitches at the end of the row = 92-92-96-96-100-100 stitches. ROW 7 (wrong side): Purl (yarn overs purled twisted as described under Raglan and bands in garter stitch). The short rows are finished and you have increased 3 times for raglan on each side of the 4 raglan-stitches. Now continue as described below. REMEMBER THE KNITTING GAUGE and BUTTONHOLES on the right band – see description above. YOKE: Work stockinette stitch with 6 band stitches in GARTER STITCH on each side – read description above. AT THE SAME TIME, continue to increase for raglan as described below: SIZES S, M, L and XXXL: Increase for raglan every 2nd row (each row from the right side) but every 2nd increase is only on the front/back pieces i.e., increase on the front/back pieces every 2nd row and on the sleeves every 4th row (alternately 4 and 8 increased stitches). Increase like this 10-12-14-18 times on the front/back pieces and 5-6-7-9 times on the sleeves = 152-164-180-208 stitches. The increases on the sleeves are finished. Continue to increase on the front/back pieces 2-2-0-1 more times = 160-172-180-212 stitches. All increases are finished. SIZES XL and XXL: Increase for raglan on each side of all 4 raglan-stitches every 2nd row (every row from the right side) 2-1 times = 112-108 stitches. Now continue to increase like this but every 2nd increase is only on the front/back pieces i.e., increase on the front/back pieces every 2nd row and on the sleeves every 4th row (alternately 4 and 8 increased stitches). Increase like this 14-16 times on the front/back pieces and 7-8 times on the sleeves = 196-204 stitches. All increases are now finished. ALL SIZES: = 160-172-180-196-204-212 stitches. The piece measures approx. 21-24-24-27-29-31 cm = 8¼"-9½"-9½"-10⅝"-11⅜"-12¼" from cast-on edge on mid-back. If the piece is shorter than this continue working to correct length without further increases. Divide for the body and sleeves as follows: Work the first 29-31-32-34-36-38 stitches as before (front piece), place the next 28-30-32-36-36-36 stitches on 1 thread for the sleeve, cast on 6-6-8-8-10-12 stitches (in side under sleeve), work 46-50-52-56-60-64 stitches (back piece), place the next 28-30-32-36-36-36 stitches on 1 thread for the sleeve, cast on 6-6-8-8-10-12 stitches (in side under sleeve), work the last 29-31-32-34-36-38 stitches (front piece). The body and sleeves are finished separately. The piece is now measured from here! BODY: = 116-124-132-140-152-164 stitches. Continue with stockinette stitch and 6 band stitches on each side in garter stitch for a further 22-21-23-22-22-22 cm = 8¾"-8¼"-9"-8¾"-8¾"-8¾". Knit 1 row from the right side and increase 30-34-38-38-42-46 stitches evenly spaced – read INCREASE TIP (do not increase over the bands) = 146-158-170-178-194-210 stitches. Change to circular needle size 6 MM = US 10. Work as follows from the wrong side: 6 band stitches in garter stitch, * purl 2, knit 2 *, work from *-* until there are 8 stitches left, purl 2 and 6 band stitches in garter stitch. Continue this rib for 5 cm = 2". Bind off a little loosely. The jacket measures approx. 54-56-58-60-62-64 cm = 21¼"-22"-22¾"-23⅝"-24⅜"-25¼" from the shoulder. SLEEVES: Place the 28-30-32-36-36-36 stitches from the thread on the one side of the piece on short circular needle/double pointed needles size 9 MM = US 13 and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 6-6-8-8-10-12 stitches cast on under the sleeve = 34-36-40-44-46-48 stitches. Insert a marker-thread in the middle of the new stitches under the sleeve. Start at the thread and work stockinette stitch in the round. When the sleeve measures 4-4-4-2-3-3 cm = 1½"-1½"-1½"-¾"-1⅛"-1⅛" from division, decrease 1 stitch before the marker-thread – read DECREASE TIP. When the sleeve measures 9-9-7½-4½-5-5 cm = 3½"-3½"-2⅞"-1⅝"-2"-2" from the division, decrease 1 stitch after the marker-thread – remember DECREASE TIP. Decrease alternately before and after the marker-thread every 5-5-3½-2½-2-2 cm = 2"-2"-1¼"-1"-¾"-¾" a total of 6-6-8-12-12-12 times (3-3-4-6-6-6 times before and 3-3-4-6-6-6 times after the marker-thread) = 28-30-32-32-34-36 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 35-33-33-31-29-28 cm = 13¾"-13"-13"-12¼"-11⅜"-11" from the division. Knit 1 round and increase 16-18-20-20-18-20 stitches evenly spaced = 44-48-52-52-52-56 stitches. Change to double pointed needles size 6 MM = US 10 and work rib (knit 2, purl 2) for 10 cm = 4". Bind off a little loosely. The sleeve measures approx. 45-43-43-41-39-38 cm = 17¾"-17"-17"-16⅛"-15¼"-15" from the division. Work the other sleeve in the same way. NECK: Knit up from the right side 90-90-98-98-106-106 stitches round the neck with circular needle size 6 MM = US 10 – stitch count must be divisible by 4 + 2. Work as follows from the wrong side: 6 band stitches in garter stitch, * purl 2, knit 2 *, work from *-* until there are 8 stitches left, purl 2, 6 band stitches in garter stitch. Continue this rib back and forth for 10-10-11-11-12-12 cm = 4"-4"-4⅜"-4⅜"-4¾"-4¾". Bind off a little loosely. ASSEMBLY: Sew the buttons onto the left band. |
