Mvh DROPS Design

Do you have approximate finished measurements in inches or cm for the sweater - at least across the chest. I seem to be getting the gauge but the sweater seems quite large for the size. I am not used to choosing a size based on the height of the child.

Dear Amy, you have the finished measurements in inches at the top of the page, in the materials section, in the US version of the pattern: https://www.garnstudio.com/pattern.php?id=11386&cid=17. You can also check the size chart at the bottom, which is in cm, and convert them to inches in the following webpage: https://www.garnstudio.com/conversions.php?cid=17. Happy knitting!

Hi. On the neck, the pattern says decrease by 2 stitches every other round, using the 2 stitches before the centre front stitch. But if I decrease before the centre front every round, my work will be one sided because I’m knitting in the round - shouldn’t I decrease after the central stitch too? Or should I stop knitting in the round? Thanks
26.11.2023 - 20:32DROPS Design answered:
Dear Anne, since you start decreasing 1 stitch before the central stitch and you decrease by slipping the 2 stitches ( the stitch before + central stitch) as knit 2 together, knit 1 stitch ( the stitch after) and pass over the knit 2 together over the knit stitch. This way, the decrease would be in the stitch before and the stitch after. You can see a video on this technique here: https://www.garnstudio.com/video.php?id=736&lang=en. Happy knitting!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows. 1 ridge = knit 2 rows. DECREASE TIP (for V-neck): All decreases are worked from the right side! AT BEGINNING OF ROW: Work 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, knit 1, slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch. AT END OF ROW: Work until there are 4 stitches left, knit 2 together, knit 1 and 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. INCREASE TIP (for sleeves): Increase by making 1 yarn over on each side of the marker-thread + 1 stitch on each side. On the next round work the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SWEATER - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The body is worked in the round with circular needle, bottom up, as far as the armholes. The piece is then divided and the front and back pieces are finished separately. The sleeves are worked in the round bottom up, with double pointed needles/short circular needle. The sleeve cap is finished back and forth. The piece is assembled and the neck worked to finish. BODY: Cast on 124-132-136-140-148-156 stitches with circular needle size 4.5 MM = US 7 and DROPS Melody. Work rib in the round (knit 1, purl 1) for 6 cm = 2⅜". Change to circular needle size 6 MM = US 10. Knit 1 round and decrease 24-24-24-24-24-28 stitches evenly spaced = 100-108-112-116-124-128 stitches. Work stockinette stitch. REMEMBER THE KNITTING GAUGE! When the piece measures 23-26-29-32-33-34 cm = 9"-10¼"-11⅜"-12½"-13"-13⅜", divide for the front and back pieces as follows: Bind off the first 10-12-12-10-12-10 stitches, work the next 40-42-44-48-50-54 stitches and place them on a thread (front piece), bind off the next 10-12-12-10-12-10 stitches and work the last 40-42-44-48-50-54 stitches (back piece). BACK PIECE: Continue with stockinette stitch back and forth. When the piece measures 34-38-42-46-48-50 cm = 13⅜"-15"-16½"-18"-19"-19¾", bind off the middle 12-12-14-14-16-16 stitches for the neck and finish each shoulder separately. On the next row from the neck bind off 1 stitch = 13-14-14-16-16-18 stitches on the shoulder. Bind off when the piece measures 36-40-44-48-50-52 cm = 14¼"-15¾"-17¼"-19"-19¾"-20½". Work the other shoulder in the same way. FRONT PIECE: Place the stitches from the thread on circular needle size 6 MM = US 10 = 40-42-44-48-50-54. Continue with stockinette stitch until the piece measures 26-30-33-36-37-38 cm = 10¼"-11¾"-13"-14¼"-14½"-15". Work the next row from the right side as follows: Knit 16-17-18-20-21-23, knit 2 together, knit 1, 1 edge stitch in GARTER STITCH – see description above, turn. Place the last 20-21-22-24-25-27 stitches on a thread for the right shoulder and work the 19-20-21-23-24-26 stitches on needle = left shoulder. LEFT SHOULDER (front piece): = 19-20-21-23-24-26 stitches. Work stockinette stitch with 1 edge stitch in garter stitch mid-front and decrease for the neck inside this edge stitch, at the end of each row from the right side (= every other row) – read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this a total of 7-7-8-8-9-9 times (the first decrease was when the piece was divided) = 13-14-14-16-16-18 stitches on the shoulder. Work until the piece measures 36-40-44-48-50-52 cm = 14¼"-15¾"-17¼"-19"-19¾"-20½", Bind off. RIGHT SHOULDER (front piece): Place the stitches from the thread back on the needle = 20-21-22-24-25-27 stitches. Work stockinette stitch with 1 edge stitch in garter stitch mid-front and decrease for the neck inside this edge stitch at the beginning of each row from the right side (= every other row) 7-7-8-8-9-9 times - remember DECREASE TIP = 14-14-15-16-17-18 stitches on the shoulder. Work until the piece measures 36-40-44-48-50-52 cm = 14¼"-15¾"-17¼"-19"-19¾"-20½". Bind off. SLEEVES: Cast on 32-34-36-36-38-40 stitches with double pointed needles size 4.5 MM = US 7. Knit 1 round then work rib in the round (knit 1, purl 1) for 6 cm = 2⅜". Change to double pointed needles size 6 MM = US 10, knit 1 round and decrease 6 stitches evenly spaced = 26-28-30-30-32-34 stitches. Insert a marker-thread at the beginning of the round = mid-under sleeve. Work stockinette stitch. When the piece measures 8 cm = 3⅛" increase 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread – read INCREASE TIP. Increase like this every 3-3-4-4-4-5 cm = 1⅛"-1⅛"-1½"-1½"-1½"-2" a total of 5-6-6-7-8-8 times = 36-40-42-44-48-50 stitches. When the sleeve measures 24-29-34-37-41-49 cm = 9½"-11⅜"-13⅜"-14½"-16⅛"-19¼" work the sleeve cap back and forth (from the marker-thread) for 4 cm = 1½". Bind off. Work the other sleeve in the same way. ASSEMBLY: Sew the shoulder seams. Sew the sleeve cap to the armhole - see sketch. NECK: Use short circular needle size 4.5 MM = US 7. Start from the right side on one shoulder. Knit up 24 to 30 stitches down one side of the V-neck (knit up 1 extra stitch at the bottom), 24 to 30 stitches up the other side of the V-neck and 16 to 22 stitches around the back of the neck = 64 to 82 stitches. Purl 1 round and adjust the stitch count so it is divisible by 2. Work rib in the round (knit 1, purl 1) making sure you have a knitted stitch mid-front. AT THE SAME TIME, every 2nd round decrease 2 stitches mid-front as follows: Work until there is 1 stitch left before the knitted stitch mid-front, slip 2 stitches as if to knit together, knit 1, pass the 2 slipped stitches over the knitted stitch (= 2 stitches decreased). Doing this will allow the neck to lie neatly and the knitted stitch will form a straight line mid-front. When the neck measures 3 cm = 1⅛" bind off with knit over knit and purl over purl. |
