Hi, need help , with Snow Song Sweater by DROPS Design, Continue working until the yoke measures 22-24-25-27-29-31 from the marker on the neck. Need to know if it’s cm ? I’m working size med, do I work the top question first and then ? Work the next round as follows: Knit 17-19-
09.02.2022 - 23:42DROPS Design answered:
Hi Maria, These measurements are in cm. After you have reached length 24 cm (Size M), you work 19 stitches as before (second number in the sequence), place the next 32 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 4 stitches, work 36 stitches, place the next 32 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 4 stitches and work the last 17 stitches. Happy knitting!

Thank you for the reply. Another question: going up a needle size to get gauge makes the knit loose, lacy like, I don't like that. If I use the needle down a size because the knitting is a tiny bit tighter but more appealing to me, I need a medium, if I make a large, with the needle that makes the knit a tighter to my taste, will the sweater fit in theory??

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- CHANGING-STRAND TIP: When changing balls, divide the old strand in 2 for the last 15 cm = 6" – cut off 1 length, do the same with the new strand. Lay the first and last 15 cm = 6" over each other to give the normal yarn-thickness and continue working – this will leave no visible join. RAGLAN: Increase by making 1 yarn over on each side of 1 knitted stitch (raglan-line), in each transition from body to sleeves (= 8 stitches increased on the round). On the next round work the yarn overs as follows: BEFORE MARKER: Slip the yarn over off the left needle as if to knit and place it back the other way around, knit in the front loop (the yarn over twists to the right – no hole). AFTER MARKER: Knit in the back loop (the yarn over twists to the left – no hole). Then work the increased stitches in stockinette stitch. BINDING-OFF TIP: To avoid the bind-off edge being tight you can bind off with a larger size needle. If the edge is still tight, make 1 yarn over after approx. each 8th stitch at the same time as binding off; the yarn overs are bind off as normal stitches. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SWEATER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The neck, yoke and body are worked in the round with double pointed needles/circular needle, top down. The sleeves are worked back and forth with circular needle and sewn together to finish. Read CHANGING-STRAND TIP. NECK: Cast on 48-48-48-56-56-56 stitches with double pointed needles/circular needle size 10 MM = US 15 and DROPS Polaris. Knit 1 round. Then work rib (purl 1, knit 1) in the round for 10 cm = 4". Insert 1 marker at the beginning of the round (= mid-back) – THE YOKE IS MEASURED FROM HERE. YOKE: Increase 1 stitch, by making 1 yarn over at the beginning of each purled section; on the next round purl the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes = 72-72-72-84-84-84 stitches. Work the new rib (purl 2, knit 1) for 5 cm = 2"; a total of 15 cm = 6" rib. Change to circular needle size 12 MM = US 17. Insert 4 markers without working the stitches as follows: Count 11-11-11-14-14-14 stitches, insert a marker in the next stitch (= half back piece), count 14 stitches (= sleeve), insert a marker in the next stitch, count 20-20-20-26-26-26 stitches, insert a marker in the next stitch (= front piece), count 14 stitches (= sleeve), insert a marker in the next stitch, there are 9-9-9-12-12-12 stitches left after the last marker (= half back piece.). The stitches with a marker = raglan lines. Continue with stockinette stitch, AT THE SAME TIME on the first round, begin to increase to RAGLAN – read description above. Increase like this every 2nd round a total of 6-8-9-8-10-12 times = 120-136-144-148-164-180 stitches. REMEMBER THE KNITTING GAUGE! Continue working until the yoke measures 22-24-25-27-29-31 from the marker on the neck. Work the next round as follows: Knit 17-19-20-22-24-26 (= half the back piece), place the next 28-32-34-32-36-40 stitches on a thread (= sleeve), cast on 4-4-4-6-6-6 stitches under the sleeve, knit 32-36-38-42-46-50 (= front piece), place the next 28-32-34-32-36-40 stitches on a thread (= sleeve), cast on 4-4-4-6-6-6 stitches under the sleeve, knit the last 15-17-18-20-22-24 stitches (= half back-piece). THE BODY IS MEASURED FROM HERE! BODY: = 72-80-84-96-104-112 stitches. Continue with stockinette stitch for 16-16-17-17-17-17 cm = 6¼"-6¼"-6¾"-6¾"-6¾"-6¾". There is approx. 10 cm = 4" left to finished length; try the sweater on and work to desired length. Change to circular needle size 10 MM = US 15 and work rib (knit 1, purl 1) for 10 cm = 4", then bind off with knit over knit and purl over purl – read BINDING-OFF TIP. The sweater measures approx. 52-54-56-58-60-62 cm = 20½"-21¼"-22"-22¾"-23⅝"-24⅜" from the shoulder down. SLEEVES: Place the 28-32-34-32-36-40 stitches from the thread on the one side of the piece on circular needle size 12 MM = US 17 and cast on 2-2-2-3-3-3 stitches on each side = 32-36-38-38-42-46 stitches. Work stockinette stitch back and forth for 4 cm = 1½". Now decrease 1 stitch on the right-hand side by knitting 2 together. Decrease 1 stitch on alternately the left-hand and right-hand side every 2nd row a total of 8-8-8-8-8-8 times (= 4-4-4-4-4-4 times on each side) = 24-28-30-30-34-38 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 27-26-26-22-21-20 cm = 10⅝"-10¼"-10¼"-8¾"-8¼"-8" from the division. There is approx. 10 cm = 4" left to finished length; try the sweater on and work to desired length. Change to circular needle size 10 cm = 4" and work rib (knit 1, purl 1) back and forth for 10 cm = 4". The sleeve measures approx. 37-36-36-32-31-30 cm = 14½"-14¼"-14¼"-12½"-12¼"-11¾". Bind off with knit over knit and purl over purl – remember BINDING-OFF TIP. Work the other sleeve in the same way. ASSEMBLY: Sew the sleeve seams in the outermost loop of the outermost stitch so the seam is flat. Sew the openings under the sleeves. |
