Can you please clarify what the instruction (middle 1 repeat on top of sleeve) means? Thank you
25.07.2022 - 19:59DROPS Design answered:
Dear Lila, when knitting patterned sleeves, it is a good idea to mark mid upper side of sleeve and mid middle of pattern repeat - then put these marks together and count the other pattern repeats on either side of sleeve. This is done to keep the pattern nice and whole - as the sleeve widens and stitches are added, the pattern would otherwise be displaced during the increasing. See also this DROPS Lesson. Happy knitting!

Dear Alice, I would exchange the rust color to the color 60, coral. Happy Stitching!

Can I substitute Karisma for the Alaska yarn, if so how? The last 2 Norwegian patterns were large even though I had correct gauge, they were pattern no. DROPS 52-27 and Drops 116-11 Anxious for answer for I can order yarn and start knitting this beauty! Thank you Raydene in U.S.
20.02.2015 - 17:39DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Harris, Alaska belongs to group C and Karisma to group B, so that the tension is different (16-19 sts/10 cm for Alaska and ca 20-22 sts/10 cm for Karisma) - working the jacket with a yarn group B will give you a smaller jacket, you would have to recalculate to get correct measurements. Do not hesitate to contact your DROPS store for any tip and advices. Happy knitting!

Knitting gauge: 17sts x 21 rows in stockinette st on needles size 5 mm / US 8 = 10x10cm. Rib: *K2, P2* Pattern: See diagram (1 diagram = 1 repeat). Pattern is read from right to left, and is seen from RS. Pattern is worked in stockinette st. Body: Jacket is knitted in the round after the rib and arm holes and front opening is then cut open. Cast on 160 (168) sts on long circ needle size 3.5 mm / US 4 with navy. Work 4 cm / 1½" rib back and forth on needle. Change to circ needle size 5 mm / US 8, working in the round and inc 5 sts middle front (these sts are for cutting open at the end and are not worked in pattern). Continue in pattern and at the same time inc 40 (48) sts evenly on first round = 200 (216) sts. (+ 5 sts). When piece measures 29 (30) cm, inc 4 sts each side for armhole (these sts are for cutting later and are not knitted in pattern). Remember to check your gauge. When piece measures 52 (53) cm bind off 20 (20) sts ( + 5 sts for cutting) middle front for neck. Continue knitting back and forth on needle. Dec on neck edge on every other row as follows: 3 sts once, 2 sts twice, 1 st twice. At the same time when piece measures 58 (59) cm bind off middle 36 (36) sts for back neck. Dec 1 sts each side on next row on neck edge. Continue until piece measures 59 (60) cm. Bind off. Sleeves: Cast on 36 (40) sts on double pointed needles size 3.5 mm / US 4 with navy. Work 4 cm / 1½" rib. Change to double pointed needles size 5 mm / US 8, at the same time increase 14 (12) sts evenly on first round = 50 (52) sts. Continue working pattern (middle 1 repeat on top of sleeve). At the same time inc underneath sleeve each side of middle sts as follows: 1 st 26 (26) times on every 3rd round = 102 (104)sts. Continue until piece measures 49 (48) cm (adjust to pattern repeat). Work 2 cm / ¾" reverse stockinette st. This is facing for the cutting edge on the body. Bind off. Assembly: Mark the middle of the increased stitches each side and middle front with a thread. Sew two machine seams each side of the thread ½ stitch away from thread, then ½ stitch from first seam. Cut open for armhole and middle opening along the marking thread. Sew shoulder seams. Pick up approx 96 sts along left front with navy inside first pattern st on needle 3.5mm and work 3 cm / 1" rib, P1 round, 3 cm / 1" rib. Bind off. Fold in half towards WS over cut edge and sew. Repeat along right front, but after 1 cm / ⅜" work 5 buttonholes evenly spaced. 1 button hole: = bind off 1 st, cast on 1 st on next row over the bind off st. Pick up approx 96 sts around neck on needle 3.5mm with blue and work 2 cm / ¾" stockinette st, 1 round in navy, P1 round in navy, 2.5 cm / ⅞" stockinette st in navy. Bind off and fold in half to WS and sew. Insert sleeves into body RS facing as follows: sew alternatively 1 stitch in arm facing and 1 stitch in the body other side of machined seam. Turn jacket inside out and sew sleeve facing over the cut edge on the body. Sew on buttons. |
