Pattern: See diagram. The diagram shows the pattern from the RS and the entire pattern is worked in stockinette st. Rib: * K1 into back of loop, P1 *, repeat from *-*. Body: The sweater is worked in the round on circular needle and cut for armholes afterwards. Cast on 136-146 sts on circular needle size 3 MM = US 2.5 with beige Vienna and work 5 cm = 2" rib. Change to circular needle size 5.5 MM = US 9 and work 1 round stockinette st, at the same time inc 20-28 sts evenly = 156-168 sts. Work chart M.1 and then continue in chart M.2 as follows: size S/M: 6 off white sts, 9 repeats pattern, 6 off white, 9 repeats pattern. Size M/L: beg by arrow and work pattern on front piece, beg by arrow again and repeat pattern on back piece. Remember the knitting gauge! After 17-20 cm = 6¾"-8" of M.2 (adjust to a full vertical pattern repeat) continue in M.3 (beg by arrow and work pattern on front piece, beg by arrow again and repeat pattern on back piece). At the same time when piece measures 35-37 cm = 13¾"-14½" inc 4 sts each side (to be cut for armhole afterwards and not included in pattern). When piece measures 45-48 cm = 17¾"-19" bind off the middle 18 sts for neck on front piece and complete piece back and forth on needle. Bind off 1 st each side to shape the neckline on every 5th row 6 times. Bind off remaining sts after M.3, piece measures approx 65-68 cm = 25½"-26¾". Sleeve: Cast on 34-34 sts on double pointed needles size 3 MM = US 2.5 with beige Vienna and work 5 cm = 2" rib. Change to double pointed needles size 5.5 MM = US 9 and work 2 rounds stockinette st, at the same time inc 2-2 sts evenly on first round = 36-36 sts. Work M.1, at the same time inc 2 sts mid under arm a total of 21-22 times on every 3rd round = 78-80 sts. After M.1 continue in M.2 until piece measures approx 46-44 cm = 18"-17¼" – adjust to pattern – and now work M.3. After M.3 piece measures approx 49-47 cm = 19¼"-18½". Work 4 rounds in reverse stockinette st (for sewing sleeve to body piece). Bind off. Assembly: Insert a marking thread in the middle of the inc sts for armhole. Sew 2 seams on a sewing machine around the marking thread, 1st seam = ½ st from the thread, 2nd seam = ½ st from the 1st seam. Cut for armholes. Sew the shoulder seams. Set in sleeves as follows: sew the last row in stockinette st on sleeves to row after machine seam on armhole. Turn sweater inside out and fasten piece in reverse stockinette st on sleeve to body piece. Collar: Cast on 24 sts on needle size 4 MM = US 6 with beige and work rib (only K1 into back of loop from RS, K1 from WS), at the same time inc 1 st on the right side of piece on every 6th row a total of 6 times = 30 sts. When piece measures 32 cm = 12½" bind off at the left side of piece on every other row: 6 sts 5 times. Make 1 more piece, but inc and dec at the opposite sides. Sew collar tog mid back and sew collar to sweater in outer loops of sts to avoid a chunky seam. |
