Hi, Thanks for all your wonderful patterns and tutorials! Several of your patterns have a hemmed front band with the instructions, "remember buttonholes on the piece in stocking sts to be folded towards WS!" Do I need to make two buttonholes that match up when the band is folded towards the wrong side? Do you have a tutorial of this technique? Thanks again, Amy

Hi Amy! You need to make two buttonholes that match up when the band is folded towards the wrong side. We don't have any tutorial on this subject. Happy knitting!

Hi, You recommend DROPS Alpaca as a substitute for the discontinued Camelia. I have been told that, generally, an Alpaca sweater tends to grow/stretch in length over time. Does that hold true for the DROPS Alpaca yarn as well? If so, by about how much (percentagewise?)? Can this be avoided by another one of the suitable DROPS yarns?

Dear Mrs Gade, when you have worked your swatch, wash and block it to get the correct measurements (as you will wash your garment - see label how to wash it) - to calculate new amount of yarn, see here. Remember your DROPS store will always have tips & advices for you, you can contact them even per mail or telephone. Happy knitting!

Hi, The front of the cardigan is to be cut from the very bottom to the top. So should the extra five stiches for the steek not be added at the very beginning when casting on and not after having knit the bottom border? Your help is very much appreciated. Thanks, Silke

Dear Mrs Gade, the jacket is worked in the round after the edge, ccast on the given number of sts and work the edge, then continue with larger needle and work M.1 at the same time on 1st row in M.1 inc sts evenly and cast on 5 sts on mid front (steek sts). Happy knitting!

Hi, Would you be able to tell me how many metres per 50 g your discontinued Camelia yarn ran so I can calculate the amount necessary for a replacement yarn? Thank you, Silke

Dear Mrs Grade, read here more informations about Camelia + alternative yarns group A. Happy knitting!

Pattern: See diagram. The diagram shows the pattern from the RS and the entire pattern is worked in stockinette st. English translations for the wording in diagrams are given at the bottom of this pattern and they are given in the vertical order in which they appear in the diagram. Edge: Work 3 cm = 1⅛" stockinette st, P 1 row (= folding edge, measure piece from here), 3 cm = 1⅛" stockinette st. Body: The jacket is worked in the round on circular needle after the Edge and cut mid front afterwards. Cast on 226-236 sts on circular needle size 2.5 mm = US 1,5 with navy blue and work Edge back and forth on needle. Change to circular needle size 3.5 mm = US 4 and continue in M.1, at the same time inc 38-52 sts evenly on round + 5 sts mid front (these 5 sts are to be cut afterwards and are not included in pattern) = 264-288 + 5 sts mid front. After M.1 work M.3 and then continue in navy blue. Remember the knitting gauge! When piece measures 27-28 cm = 10⅝"-11" divide the piece in 2 and complete each piece separately. Back piece: = 132-144 sts. When piece measures 56-57 cm = 22"-22½" bind off the middle 46-46 sts for neck and bind off 2 sts on neckline on next row. Bind off remaining sts on shoulder when piece measures 57-58 cm = 22½"-22¾". Front piece: = 132-144 sts + 5 sts. When piece measures 36, 43 and 45 cm = 14¼", 17" and 17¾" work M.2 as follows (as seen from RS): at 36 cm = 14¼": 84-93 navy blue sts + 5 sts, M.2, 30-33 navy blue sts. At 43 cm = 17": 98-107 navy blue sts + 5 sts, M.2, 16-19 navy blue sts. At 45 cm = 17¾": 26-28 navy blue sts, M.2, 88-98 navy blue sts + 5 sts. Now complete piece in navy blue. When piece measures 51-52 cm = 20"-20½" bind off the middle 36-36 sts + 5 sts for neck and complete each side separately. Bind off to shape the neckline on every other row: 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 1 time, 1 st 2 times. Bind off remaining sts on shoulder when piece measures 57-58 cm = 22½"-22¾". Sleeve: Cast on 52-56 sts on double pointed needles size 2.5 mm = US 1,5 with navy blue and work Edge. Change to double pointed needles size 3.5 mm = US 4 and continue in M.1 (place a pattern repeat mid upper sleeve), at the same time inc 16-12 sts evenly on first round = 68-68 sts. At the same time after the Edge inc 2 sts mid under arm a total of 35-35 times on every * 3rd and 4th * round alternately = 138-138 sts. Incorporate the inc sts in pattern as you go along. After M.1, work M.3 and then complete piece in navy blue. When piece measures 47-47 cm = 18½"-18½" bind off 10 sts mid under sleeve and complete piece back and forth on needle. Bind off to shape the sleeve cap each side on every other row: 8 sts 4 times. Bind off remaining sts when piece measures 50-50 cm = 19¾"-19¾". Assembly: Insert a marking thread from top to bottom in the center of the 5 sts mid front. Sew 2 seams on a sewing machine around the marking thread, 1st seam = ½ st from the MT, 2nd seam = ½ st from the 1st seam. Cut mid front. Sew the shoulder seams. Fold Edge at bottom of jacket double towards WS and fasten. Pick up approx 120 sts along left front piece on needle size 2.5 mm with navy blue and work M.3, P 1 row, 11 rows stockinette st, bind off and fold edge double towards WS and fasten. Repeat along right front piece but after 1 cm = ⅜" make 5 buttonholes evenly distributed. 1 buttonhole = bind off 3 sts and cast on 3 new sts on return row – remember buttonholes on the piece in stockinette sts to be folded towards WS! Pick up approx 112 sts round the neck on needle size 2.5 mm = US 1,5 with navy blue and work M.3, P 1 row, 11 rows stockinette st, bind off and fold edge double towards WS and fasten. Set in sleeves. Sew on buttons. English explanation to pattern diagram: = navy blue = mint = turquoise = blue = purple |
