I’m a bit confused about the increases on the sleeve and how they fit with the pattern - do I just do the increases in black regardless?

Hi Lillian, It is neatest and least visible if you increase with the colour you are using in the pattern. Happy knitting!

Bon tricot!

Thank you for answering my question! Is there a certain way I should knit the black stitches at each side?
17.11.2021 - 23:24DROPS Design answered:
Dear Vanessa, when working the stripes without black, just work the first and last stitch with the same colour as the main colour of the stripe, when working with black again, work the first and last stitch with black. Happy knitting!

I've just divided my piece in 2. 1. What is the right vs left side? Do I increase with the black yarn? 2. Since I increased by 3 stitches, doesn't that mean that I would have an extra stitch left over in my pattern (minus the 2 black stitches on each end, pattern is 12 stitches)? 3. How do I make sure that when I knit the black stitches that it doesn't become a separate piece from the rest of my sweater? ( I tried, and I started knitting a chain separate from the main piece.)
17.11.2021 - 08:07DROPS Design answered:
Dear Vanessa, when you divide body into front and back piece, the right side seen from RS is the beg of the row and the left side seen from RS is the end of the row - increase with the colour of the stripe. Pattern has been started before, this means the new sts at the beg of the round should be worked as the last sts in diagram (as last sts a previous repeat) and the new sts at the end of the row as the new sts a next repeat. When you are not working with black colour, work the first and last stitch with the main colour of the stripe. Happy knitting!

Pattern: See diagram. The diagram shows the pattern from the RS and the entire pattern is worked in stockinette st. Rib: * K1, P1 *, repeat from *-*. Edge: 2 cm = ¾" stockinette st, P 1 round (= folding edge), 2 cm = ¾" stockinette st, bind off and fold edge double towards WS and fasten. Body: The sweater is worked in the round on circular needle. Cast on 160-166-172 sts on circular needle size 3 MM = US 2.5 with black and work 12 cm = 4¾" rib. Change to circular needle size 5.5 MM = US 9 and continue in stockinette st, at the same time inc 8-26-44 sts evenly on first round = 168-192-216 sts. When piece measures 22-24-24 cm = 8¾"-9½"-9½" continue in pattern (= 57 rounds). At the same time when piece measures 31-33-33 cm = 12¼"-13"-13" divide the piece in 2 and complete front and back pieces separately. Front piece: = 84-96-108 sts. Continue back and forth on needle, at the same time inc 1 st on the right side of piece and 2 sts on the left side of piece = 87-99-111 sts and continue in pattern with 1 black st each side. After 1 vertical pattern repeat complete piece in black. When piece measures 61-63-63 cm = 24"-24¾"-24¾" slip the middle 37-39-39 sts on a stitch holder for neck and complete each side separately. Bind off remaining 25-30-36 sts on shoulder when piece measures 62-64-64 cm = 24⅜"-25¼"-25¼". Back piece: Like front piece. Sleeve: Cast on 34-34-36 sts on double pointed needles size 3 MM = US 2.5 with black and work 6 cm = 2⅜" rib. Change to double pointed needles size 5.5 MM = US 9 and continue in stockinette st, at the same time inc 15-17-15 sts evenly on first round = 49-51-51 sts. Now inc 2 sts mid under arm a total of 23-24-24 times on every 3rd round for size S and M, and on every other and 3rd round alternately for size L = 95-99-99 sts. At the same time when piece measures 14-11-8 cm = 5½"-4⅜"-3⅛" work a pattern repeat (= 57 rounds). Bind off after pattern, piece measures approx 50-47-44 cm = 19¾"-18½"-17¼". Assembly: Sew the shoulder seams. Pick up 78-82-82 (incl sts on stitch holder) round neckline on needle size 3 MM = US 2.5 with black and work edge – see above. Set in sleeves. |
