------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- RAGLAN: Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over, which is worked as follows on the next round: BEFORE RAGLAN-STITCH: Slip the yarn over off the left needle and replace it the other way round (insert the left needle through the back when replacing it). Knit through the front loop to avoid a hole. Then work the new stitch in stockinette stitch. AFTER RAGLAN-STITCH: Knit through the back loop to avoid a hole. Then work the new stitch in stockinette stitch. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 and A.2. SLEEVE TIP: When knitting up stitches under the sleeve, you can get a small hole in the transition between stitches on the body and sleeve. This hole can be closed by picking up the strand between 2 stitches and working this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve. DECREASE TIP (for sleeves): Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SWEATER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The neck and yoke are worked in the round with circular needle, top down and from the right back shoulder. When the yoke is finished, it is divided for the body and sleeves and the body continued in the round, while the sleeves wait. The sleeves are worked top down, in the round. NECK: Cast on 108-116-116-124-124-132-132 stitches with circular needle size 3 MM = US 2.5 and DROPS Merino Extra Fine or DROPS Lima. Knit 1 round, then work rib in the round (knit 1, purl 1) for 4 cm = 1½". Insert 1 marker after the first 41-43-43-45-45-47-47 stitches (mid-front); the piece is now measured from here. YOKE: Change to circular needle size 4 MM = US 6. Insert 4 new markers, without working the stitches and inserting each marker in a stitch (raglan-stitch; you increase for raglan on each side of these stitches). Insert marker-1 in the first stitch, count 27 stitches (= sleeve), Insert marker-2 in the next stitch, count 25-29-29-33-33-37-37 stitches (= front piece), Insert marker-3 in the next stitch, count 27 stitches (= sleeve), Insert marker-4 in the next stitch, there are 25-29-29-33-33-37-37 stitches left after the last marker (= back piece). You now continue with stockinette stitch and pattern and increase for raglan on the first round – therefore, read the next 2 sections before continuing. PATTERN: Work stockinette stitch on the front and back pieces, work A.1 across the stitches between markers 1 and 2 (left sleeve) and A.2 across the stitches between markers 3 and 4 (right sleeve). The raglan-stitches are worked in stockinette stitch. When A.1 and A.2 have been completed in height, repeat the top 8 rows in the diagrams onwards (marked with x in the diagrams), you increase 3 stitches on the first row of A.1/A.2. RAGLAN: ROUND 1: Work stockinette stitch and pattern, increasing for raglan on each side of the raglan-stitches (8 increased stitches). NOTE: At the beginning of the round increase after marker-stitch 1 and at the end of the round before marker-stitch 1. ROUND 2: Work stockinette stitch and pattern, working the yarn overs as described under RAGLAN. Work ROUNDS 1 and 2 a total of 1-5-6-10-10-9-6 times (2-10-12-20-20-18-12 rounds worked) = 122-162-170-210-210-210-186 stitches. Remember to maintain the knitting gauge. Now increase as follows: ROUND 1: Work stockinette stitch and pattern increasing for raglan on each side of the raglan-stitches (8 increased stitches). ROUND 2: Work stockinette stitch and pattern. ROUND 3: Work stockinette stitch and pattern, increasing for raglan on the front and back pieces i.e., after markers 2 and 4, before markers 3 and 1 – do not increase on the sleeves (4 increased stitches). ROUND 4: Work stockinette stitch and pattern. Work ROUNDS 1 to 4 a total of 15-14-15-14-16-18-22 times (60-56-60-56-64-72-88 rounds worked; 15-14-15-14-16-18-22 increases in height on the sleeves and 30-28-30-28-32-36-44 increases in height on the front and back pieces) = 302-330-350-378-402-426-450 stitches. All increases for raglan are finished; a total of 16-19-21-24-26-27-28 increases in height on the sleeves and 31-33-36-38-42-45-50 increases in height on the front and back pieces. The yoke measures approx. 22-24-26-28-30-32-36 cm = 8¾"-9½"-10¼"-11"-11¾"-12½"-14¼" from the marker mid-front, continue working if necessary to the correct length without further increases. Now divide for the body and sleeves. DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: Work the first stitch and keep it on the needle, place the next 62-68-72-78-82-84-86 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 12-12-14-16-18-20-22 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), knit 89-97-103-111-119-129-139 (= front piece), place the next 62-68-72-78-82-84-86 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 12-12-14-16-18-20-22 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), knit the last 88-96-102-110-118-128-138 stitches (= 89-97-103-111-119-129-139 stitches on the back piece). The body and sleeves are finished separately. BODY: = 202-218-234-254-274-298-322 stitches. Continue stockinette stitch until the piece measures 42-44-46-48-49-51-53 cm = 16½"-17¼"-18"-19"-19¼"-20"-21" from the marker mid-front. Change to circular needle size 3 MM = US 2.5. Work rib (knit 1, purl 1), AT THE SAME TIME increase 20-22-24-26-28-30-32 stitches evenly on the first round = 222-240-258-280-302-328-354 stitches. When the rib measures 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 cm = 1½"-1½"-1½"-1½"-2"-2"-2", bind off. The sweater measures approx. 46-48-50-52-54-56-58 cm = 18"-19"-19¾"-20½"-21¼"-22"-22¾" from the marker mid-front and 52-54-56-58-60-62-64 cm = 20½"-21¼"-22"-22¾"-23⅝"-24⅜"-25¼" from the shoulder. SLEEVES: Place the 62-68-72-78-82-84-86 sleeve-stitches from one thread on circular needle size 4 MM = US 6 and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 12-12-14-16-18-20-22 stitches cast on under the sleeve – read SLEEVE TIP = 74-80-86-94-100-104-108 stitches. Insert a marker-thread in the middle of the 12-12-14-16-18-20-22stitches under the sleeve- the round starts by the marker-thread. Work stockinette stitch and pattern in the round. AT THE SAME TIME, when the sleeve measures 2 cm = ¾" from the division, decrease mid-under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP as follows: Decrease 2 stitches every 5-4-4-3-2 ½-2½-2 cm = 2"-1½"-1½"-1⅛"-1"-1"-¾" a total of 8-9-9-11-12-12-12 times = 58-62-68-72-76-80-84 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 43-41-40-38-36-34-31 cm = 17"-16⅛"-15¾"-15"-14¼"-13⅜"-12¼" from the division. Decrease 1 stitch in each cable and 1 stitch mid-under the sleeve = 54-58-64-68-72-76-80 stitches. Change to double pointed needles size 3 MM = US 2.5. Work rib (knit 1, purl 1), making sure the rib matches the stitches in the cables (across these 5 stitches work knit 1, purl 1, knit 1, purl 1, knit 1). When the rib measures 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 cm = 1½"-1½"-1½"-1½"-2"-2"-2", bind off. The sleeve measures approx. 47-45-44-42-41-39-36 cm = 18½"-17¾"-17¼"-16½"-16⅛"-15¼"-14¼" from the division. |
