------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- RAGLAN: Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over which is worked as follows on the next round: BEFORE RAGLAN-STITCHES: Slip the yarn over off the needle and replace it the other way around (insert the left needle through the back when replacing it). Knit the front loop to avoid a hole. Then work the new stitch in stockinette stitch. AFTER THE RAGLAN-STITCHES: Knit through the back loop to avoid a hole. Then work the new stitch in stockinette stitch. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). SLEEVE TIP: When knitting up stitches under the sleeve, you can get a small hole in the transition between stitches on the body and sleeve. This hole can be closed by picking up the strand between 2 stitches and working this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SWEATER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The neck and yoke are worked in the round with circular needle, top down and from the right back shoulder. When the yoke is finished, it is divided for the body and sleeves and the body continued in the round, while the sleeves wait. The sleeves are worked top down, in the round. The neck is folded double and fastened to the inside. NECK: Cast on 108-116-120-124-128-132-140 stitches with circular needle size 4 MM = US 6 and DROPS Soft Tweed. Change to circular needle size 3 MM = US 2.5 (casting on with a larger needle size makes the cast-on edge elastic). Work rib in the round (purl 1, knit 1) for 9-9-9-10-10-11-11 cm = 3½"-3½"-3½"-4"-4"-4⅜"-4⅜". The neck is folded double later and fastened to the wrong side, leaving a neck-height of approx. 4-4-4-4½-4½-5-5 cm = 1½"-1½"-1½"-1⅝"-1⅝"-2"-2". The round begins on the right back shoulder. Insert 1 marker after the first 38-41-43-44-45-47-50 stitches (approx. mid-front). The piece is measured from here. YOKE: Insert 4 markers, without working the stitches, inserting the markers in purled stitches as follows: Insert marker-1 in the first stitch (purled), count 21-23-25-25-25-27-29 stitches (= sleeve), Insert marker-2 in the next stitch (purled), count 31-33-33-35-37-37-39 stitches (= front piece), Insert marker-3 in the next stitch (purled), count 21-23-25-25-25-27-29 stitches (= sleeve), Insert marker-4 in the next stitch (purled), there are 31-33-33-35-37-37-39 stitches left after the last marker (= back piece). Change to circular needle size 4 MM = US 6 and knit 1 round, increasing 1 stitch in each of the 4 marker-stitches (increase by knitting 1 in both the front and back loop of the marker-stitch = 4 increased stitches) = 112-120-124-128-132-136-144 stitches. The markers sit between these 2 stitches, the raglan-stitches. You increase for raglan on each side of these 2 stitches. The round begins between 2 raglan-stitches by marker-1. Work stockinette stitch in the round and increase for RAGLAN – read explanation above, as follows: ROUND 1: Increase for raglan on each side of all 4 sets of raglan-stitches (= 8 increased stitches). NOTE: At the beginning of the round increase after the raglan-stitch by marker-1 and at the end of the round, increase before the raglan-stitch by marker-1. ROUND 2: Knit – remember to work the yarn overs as described under RAGLAN. Work ROUNDS 1 and 2 a total of 13-10-11-16-12-14-18 times (26-20-22-32-24-28-36 rounds worked) = 216-200-212-256-228-248-288 stitches. Remember to maintain the knitting gauge. Now increase as follows: ROUND 1: Increase for raglan on each side of all 4 sets of raglan-stitches (= 8 increased stitches). ROUND 2: Knit – remember to work the yarn overs as explained above. ROUND 3: Increase for raglan only on the front and back pieces, i.e., after markers 2 and 4, before markers 3 and 1 – do not increase on the sleeves (= 4 increased stitches). ROUND 4: Knit – remember to work the yarn overs as explained above. Work ROUNDS 1 to 4 a total of 7-9-10-8-12-12-11 times (28-36-40-32-48-48-44 rounds worked = 7-9-10-8-12-12-11 increases on the sleeves and 14-18-20-16-24-24-22 increases on the front and back pieces) = 300-308-332-352-372-392-420 stitches. All increases for raglan are finished. You have increased a total of 20-19-21-24-24-26-29 times on the sleeves, 27-28-31-32-36-38-40 times on the front and back pieces and the yoke measures approx. 19-20-22-23-26-27-29 cm = 7½"-8"-8¾"-9"-10¼"-10⅝"-11⅜" from the marker mid-front. Now divide for the body and sleeves. DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: The yoke is divided so the raglan-lines are on the front and back pieces. Knit 1-1-1-1-1-3-6 (these stitches belongs to the back piece), place the next 61-61-67-73-73-75-77 stitches on 1 thread for the sleeve, cast on 8-12-14-18-20-22-24 stitches (under the sleeve), knit 89-93-99-103-113-121-133 (= front piece), place the next 61-61-67-73-73-75-77 stitches on 1 thread for the sleeve, cast on 8-12-14-18-20-22-24 stitches (under the sleeve), knit the last 88-92-98-102-112-118-127 stitches (= back piece). The body and sleeves are finished separately. BODY: = 194-210-226-242-266-286-314 stitches. Insert 1 marker in the middle of the 8-12-14-18-20-22-24 cast-on stitches under one sleeve. Work to the marker. The new round begins here. Continue with stockinette stitch in the round for a further 30-30-30-31-29-30-29 cm = 11¾"-11¾"-11¾"-12¼"-11⅜"-11¾"-11⅜". Change to circular needle size 3 MM = US 2.5. Work rib (knit 1, purl 1), AT THE SAME TIME increase 18-20-22-24-24-26-32 stitches evenly on round 1 = 212-230-248-266-290-312-346 stitches. When the rib measures 6-6-6-6-7-7-7 cm = 2⅜"-2⅜"-2⅜"-2⅜"-2¾"-2¾"-2¾", bind off a little loosely with rib. The sweater measures approx. 55-56-58-60-62-64-65 cm = 21⅝"-22"-22¾"-23⅝"-24⅜"-25¼"-25½" from the marker mid-front and 60-62-64-66-68-70-72 cm = 23⅝"-24⅜"-25¼"-26"-26¾"-27½"-28⅜" from the shoulder. SLEEVES: Place the 61-61-67-73-73-75-77 sleeve-stitches from one thread on circular needle size 4 MM = US 6 and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 8-12-14-18-20-22-24 stitches cast on under the sleeve – read SLEEVE TIP = 69-73-81-91-93-97-101 stitches. Insert a marker-thread in the middle of the 8-12-14-18-20-22-24 stitches under the sleeve. Start at the marker-thread and work stockinette stitch in the round. When the sleeve measures 1 cm = ⅜", decrease 2 stitches under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this every 2nd round a total of 4 times. Now work 2-2-2-2-1½-1½-1½ cm = ¾"-¾"-¾"-¾"-½"-½"-½" without decreasing, then decrease again as before every 11-7-4½-3-3-2½-2 cm = 4⅜"-2¾"-1⅝"-1⅛"-1⅛"-1"-¾" a total of 4-6-9-13-13-15-16 times = 53-53-55-57-59-59-61 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 48-48-46-46-43-42-41 cm = 19"-19"-18"-18"-17"-16½"-16⅛" from the division. Change to double pointed needles size 3 MM = US 2.5. Work rib (knit 1, purl 1), AT THE SAME TIME increase 7-7-7-7-9-9-9 stitches evenly on the first round = 60-60-62-64-68-68-70 stitches. When the rib measures 6-6-6-6-7-7-7 cm = 2⅜"-2⅜"-2⅜"-2⅜"-2¾"-2¾"-2¾", bind off a little loosely with rib. The sleeve measures approx. 54-54-52-52-50-49-48 cm = 21¼"-21¼"-20½"-20½"-19¾"-19¼"-19". ASSEMBLY: Fold the neck double to the inside and sew down. To avoid the neck being tight and rolling outwards, it is important that the seam is elastic. |
