------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- INCREASE TIP (evenly spaced): To work out how to increase evenly, count the total number of stitches on the needle (e.g. 56 stitches) and divide by the number of increases to be made (e.g. 4) = 14. In this example, increase by making 1 yarn over after each 14th stitch. On the next round work the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. RAGLAN: Increase 2 stitches by each marker as follows: Work until there is 1 stitch left before the marker, 1 yarn over, knit 2 (marker sits between these 2 stitches), 1 yarn over. Increase like this at each marker (= 8 stitches increased). NOTE: At the beginning of the round increase 1 stitch after the first stitch and at the end of the round increase before the last stitch. On the next round work the yarn overs as follows: BEFORE MARKER: Slip the yarn over onto the right needle as if to knit, place it twisted back on the left needle and knit it in the front loop (yarn over leans to the right). AFTER MARKER: Knit the yarn over in the back loop (yarn over leans to the left). DECREASE TIP (for sleeves): Decrease 2 stitches under the sleeve as follows: Start 3 stitches before the marker thread, slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch, knit 2 (marker thread sits between these 2 stitches), knit 2 together (2 stitches decreased). BINDING-OFF TIP: To avoid the bind-off edge being tight you can bind off with a larger size needle. If the edge is still tight, make 1 yarn over after approx. each 4th stitch at the same time as binding off; the yarn overs are bind off as normal stitches. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SWEATER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The neck and yoke are worked in the round with double pointed needles/circular needle, top down. The yoke is divided for body and sleeves and the body is continued in the round with circular needle. The sleeves are worked in the round, with double pointed needles, top down. DOUBLE NECK: Cast on 56-56-60-60-64-68 stitches with double pointed needles/short circular needle size 5.5 MM = US 9 and DROPS Air. Knit 1 round. Change to double pointed needles/circular needle size 4.5 MM = US 7 and work rib (knit 2, purl 2) for 8 cm = 3⅛". The neck is folded double later. Knit 1 round where you increase 4-4-4-8-8-8 stitches evenly spaced – read INCREASE TIP = 60-60-64-68-72-76 stitches. Change to double pointed needles/circular needle size 5.5 MM = US 9. Insert 1 marker – THE PIECE IS NOW MEASURED FROM HERE! YOKE: Now insert 4 other markers, without working the stitches, as follows: Insert marker 1 at the beginning of the round (= in the transition between sleeve and back piece), insert marker 2 after 21-21-23-25-25-27 stitches (= back piece), insert marker 3 after 9-9-9-9-11-11 more stitches (= sleeve), insert marker 4 after 21-21-23-25-25-27 more stitches (= front piece); there are 9-9-9-9-11-11 stitches left after marker 4 (= sleeve). Continue with stockinette stitch. On the next round increase 2 stitches at each marker – read RAGLAN. REMEMBER THE KNITTING GAUGE! Increase to raglan every 2nd round a total of 13-14-15-16-17-18 times. After the last increase there are 164-172-184-196-208-220 stitches. Continue with stockinette stitch, without further increases, until the piece measures 14-15-16-17-18-19 cm = 5½"-6"-6¼"-6¾"-7"-7½" from the marker on the neck. On the next round divide for the body and sleeves as follows: Start the round 1 stitch earlier (before the 2 stockinette stitches between the sleeve and the back piece). Knit 49-51-55-59-61-65 (= back piece), place the next 33-35-37-39-43-45 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 4-4-4-6-6-6 stitches (= in side under sleeve), knit 49-51-55-59-61-65 (= front piece), place the next 33-35-37-39-43-45 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 4-4-4-6-6-6 stitches (= in side under sleeve). The body and sleeves are finished separately. THE PIECE IS NOW MEASURED FROM HERE! BODY: There are now 106-110-118-130-134-142 stitches on needle. Continue in the round with stockinette stitch until the piece measures 12-14-16-19-22-25 cm = 4¾"-5½"-6¼"-7½"-8¾"-9¾" from the division. Knit 1 round where you increase 2-2-2-6-6-6 stitches evenly spaced = 108-112-120-136-140-148 stitches. Change to circular needle size 4.5 MM = US 7 and work rib (knit 2, purl 2) for 4 cm = 1½". Loosely bind off with knit over knit and purl over purl – read BINDING-OFF TIP. The sweater measures approx. 33-36-40-44-48-52 cm = 13"-14¼"-15¾"-17¼"-19"-20½" from the shoulder down. SLEEVES: Place the 33-35-37-39-43-45 stitches from the thread on the one side of the piece on double pointed needles size 5.5 MM = US 9 and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 4-4-4-6-6-6 stitches cast on under the sleeve = 37-39-41-45-49-51 stitches. Insert a marker thread in the middle of the 4-4-4-6-6-6 stitches under the sleeve. Start at the marker thread and work stockinette stitch in the round until the sleeve measures 4 cm = 1½" from the division. Now decrease 2 stitches under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this every 0-0-0-10-10-8 cm = 0"-0"-0"-4"-4"-3⅛" a total of 1-1-1-2-3-4 times = 35-37-39-41-43-43 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 14-19-22-25-29-33 cm = 5½"-7½"-8¾"-9¾"-11⅜"-13" from the division. Knit 1 round where you increase 1-3-1-3-1-1 stitch = 36-40-40-44-44-44 stitches. Change to double pointed needles size 4.5 MM = US 7 and work rib (knit 2, purl 2) for 4 cm = 1½". Loosely bind off with knit over knit and purl over purl. Work the other sleeve in the same way. ASSEMBLY: Fold the neck double to the inside and sew down. To avoid the neck being tight and rolling outwards, it is important that the seam is elastic. |
