How to make a tubular cast on

In this DROPS video we show how you make a tubular cast on. Makes flexible and elastic edges perfect for the edge on a ribbed top down sock, ribbed cuff edges etc. The white thread we use are waste yarn that we pull out later. After casting on, the sts with the white thread around are P sts. Knit the K sts, and lift the P sts with yarn in front of work. After 4 rows (more if thinner yarn) you pull out the waste yarn and continue in rib, now working both K and P sts.

How to make a tubular cast on with waste yarn

In this DROPS video we show how you make a tubular cast on using waste yarn. This makes flexible and elastic edges, which is perfect for the edge on a ribbed top down sock, ribbed cuff edges etc. Cast on half the number of sts the pattern call for and work a couple of rows with waste yarn, ending with a RS row. Change to working yarn and work stockinette starting on a WS row. Work a minimum of 4 rows, if thinner yarn work 6 or 8 rows, end with a RS row. Next row: P1, pick up the yarn in first st below on left needle and K the stitch, P1, repeat pick up and K, continue until end of row. Now cut and remove waste yarn. Continue in rib K1, P1.

How to cast on from provisional chain

In this DROPS video we show how to cast on stitches from a provisional chain. This method of crochet chains at the bottom of your work let you create live loops that can be picked up afterward and be worked down, e.g. cuffs, lace borders etc. Use a crochet hook and crochet sts upon a needle. Start with a slip knot. After required sts are on the needle, don't pass the last loop onto the needle but chain a couple of extra sts and then pull loop a bit long through last stitch. This is the thread you will pull later to unzip the crochet sts. You must read the pattern to be able to follow. How to cast on from chain row

In this DROPS video we show how to cast on from a chain row. By having a chain row at the bottom of your work you can create live loops that can be picked up afterward and be worked down, e.g. cuffs, lace borders etc. Chain the number of sts needed and add a few extra. Turn the chain row so that you have the back side with the bumps up. Pick up sts with your working yarn through each bump. Afterward you can easily pull out the chains to unzip the sts and put them back on needle. You must read the pattern to be able to follow. How to make a provisional cast on with waste yarn or circular needle

In this DROPS video we show two ways to make a provisional cast on where you afterward will have live sts to work the opposite way. First we are casting on using a waste yarn, then we are casting on around the cable of a circular needle. How to make an invisible cast on

In this DROPS video we show how to make an invisible cast on. This cast on method is great for toe up socks, mittens, and other projects worked in the round where you don't want an uneven and bulky seam. Cast on sts on two double pointed needles and work one needle at the time in the round. After cast on and one row on each needle (i.e. 1 round) start inc 1 st each side of both needles on every other round to as many needed for width of foot. After a couple of rounds divide the sts on 4 dpn's and keep working in the round. You must read the pattern to be able to follow. How to cast on using a crochet hook and a knitting needle

In this DROPS video we show you how to cast on using a crochet hook and a knitting needle to get a nice edge. Make a start loop with the crochet hook, place the crochet hook and knitting needle next to each other. * Put the thread behind the knitting needle, get the thread on front with the crochet hook and pull it through the loop on the crochet hook *. We show two techniques of casting on new stitches e.g. when we are knitting a front piece and sleeves in one, and cast on new sts each side for the sleeves. How to cast on using the Turkish (Eastern) method

In this DROPS video we show how you can cast on stitches using the so called Turkish (aka Eastern) method. This is a very useful invisible cast on technique for toe up socks, pillow cases, bags etc. Wrap the working yarn loose around two needles, hold on to the tail. Start knitting the sts on the upper needle, then turn work around and knit sts on the other needle, continue working each needle and in the round. If it's a toe on a sock you will start to inc on 2nd round by inc 1 st each side of each needle on every or every other round until enough sts for width of foot. How to cast on in rib

In this DROPS video we show how to cast on in rib. This stretchy cast on is good for ribbing, and we show a K2/P2 rib in video but also great for K1/P1 rib. Perfect for edges on socks, mittens, hats or whenever you want very stretchy cast on. Even if you will be knitting in the round it's a good idea to cast onto a straight needle and then transfer the sts to double pointed needles. You must read the pattern to be able to follow. How to cast on with 2 colours

In this DROPS video we show how to cast on with 2 colours. This is a similar cast on technique as you use on a long tail cast on, but here we are casting on with 2 strands in different colors. Start with a slipknot holding the strands double, this one is later removed, so that all sts cast on are all with 1 strand of the yarn. To cast on with 2 colors is a great start on a 2-colored work, like intarsia, fair-isle patterns, stripes or twined knitting.

How to cast on with 3 colours

In this DROPS video we show how to cast on with 3 colours. This is a similar cast on technique as you use on a long tail cast on, but here we are casting on with 3 strands in different colors. First make a slipknot to hold all three strands together (the slipknot is untied when finished cast on). We will use one color as the edging and this strand goes around the thumb, and the other 2 colors will be alternated in the new sts as shown in video. Perfect start on a diagonal striped piece, like a cuff or hem, on a fair isle pattern that starts immediately after cast on, or for twined knitting.

In this DROPS video we show how to cast on with 2 colors alternating. This is a similar cast on technique as you use on a long tail cast on, but here we are casting on with 2 strands in different colors together. First make a slipknot to hold them together (the slipknot is untied when finished cast on), then pick up the sts alternating from the front strand, and from the back strand as shown in video. Perfect start on a diagonal striped piece, like a cuff or hem.

How to cast on with 2 circular needles to get a looser cast on edge

In this DROPS video we show how you can cast on with two circular needles. We sometimes recommend this in our patterns to prevent the cast on edge being too tight. When you have cast on the required number of stitches, you pull out one circular needle and start to knit. In this video, we cast on with needle 7 and 8, and it is needle 8 that we pull out. In this DROPS video we show how to make an invisible cast on in double knitting. Cast on this way with two colors alternating for an invisible start on your double knitted piece. The starting slipknot will be dropped after a couple rows and is not to be included in the number of stitches to be cast on. Make sure to cast on an even number of stitches, so that you will have the same amount of sts in the front and in the back. We do this to get a nicer ending / a little more weight on the garment / more elastic / slightly loosely cast off, but everything depends on which yarn you work with. How to start a shawl with a little i-cord
