How to make a provisional cast on with waste yarn or circular needle

In this DROPS video we show two ways to make a provisional cast on where you afterward will have live sts to work the opposite way.

First we are casting on using a waste yarn, then we are casting on around the cable of a circular needle. When using the circular needle you can easily afterward just pull the needle through to knit position and start working the sts for a hem, cuff, border etc.

You must read the pattern to be able to follow. You’ll find patterns where you can use this technique by clicking on the pictures below.

Bonjour Mme Perreault, vous pouvez probablement reprendre les mailles du montage provisoire et les rabattre comme vous avez rabattu les dernières mailles de votre ouvrage pour avoir exactement le même effet. Bon tricot!

Buonasera Monica. E' sufficiente che al primo ferro lavorato, chiuda le maglie in tondo. Può seguire la tecnica riportata in questo video, oppura quella illustrata nei due video che alleghiamo. Buon lavoro!

Bonjour Patricia, la technique du montage provisoire peut être utilisée dans différentes circonstances, ajustez simplement votre 1er rang / l'endroit et l'envers de l'ouvrage comme vous le souhaitez, en fonction de l'effet recherché. Bon tricot!

Bonjour Mme Kazi Tani, tricotez les mailles montées sur l'aiguille, puis, quand votre ouvrage est fait, vous récupérez les mailles montées avec l'aiguille circulaire, joignez le fil et tricotez dans l'autre sens. Bon tricot!

Bonjour Christine, la vidéo montre comment faire un montage provisoire, on tricote d'abord une première partie, puis on relève les mailles du montage provisoire pour tricoter dans l'autre sens, sans couture ni démarcation. Bon tricot!

In this DROPS video, we show you how to work each front piece with diagonal shoulders and short rows, the piece is worked bottom up. In this DROPS video we show how you can cast on with two circular needles. We sometimes recommend this in our patterns to prevent the cast on edge being too tight. When you have cast on the required number of stitches, you pull out one circular needle and start to knit. In this video, we cast on with needle 7 and 8, and it is needle 8 that we pull out.
