How to work an I-cord edge, back and forth

In this DROPS video we show how to work an I-cord edge both from the right side and from the wrong side. In this video the 6 first / 6 last stitches after the I-cord edge are worked in garter stitches (= the stitches are knitted on every row). At the beginning of the row from the right side, work like this: Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with strand in front, knit 1, work 6 garter stitches. Work stockinette stitch. At the end of the row from the right side, work like this: Work 6 garter stitches, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with strand in front, knit 1. At the beginning of the row from the wrong side, work like this: Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with strand in front, knit 1, work 6 garter stitches. Work stockinette stitch. At the end of the row from the wrong side, work like this: Work 6 garter stitches, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with strand in front, knit 1. We use the yarn DROPS Snow in the video. How to knit Fair Isle (2 color knitting) continental

In this DROPS video we show how you can knit Fair Isle (2 colour knitting) using the continental method. In this video we are following a chart back and forth on needles, knitting with two colors. The color that not is knitted is following behind the work when knitting RS rows. Make sure it's not too tight or too loose. If more than 3 sts in a row of one of the colors, then twist the yarns for every 3 sts, by picking up the working yarn alternately above and under the yarn following on the back. When working WS rows have the yarn following in front of work, again make sure you have the right tension on the thread. Note - if a color not is used all the way at the end of the row, you can drop it, but if it will be used at the beginning of the next row, then keep carry it a long by twisting around the working yarn. Don't worry if it's a bit uneven, it will even out a lot when blocking. You must read the pattern to be able to follow. How to knit stockinette/stocking stitch

In this DROPS video we show how you can knit stockinette (stocking) stitch. Stockinette is the most common technique to create an even surface on the outside of your garment. Work back and forth on the needles as we do in this video, you knit all sts on all rows from right side. On the wrong side rows you purl all stitches. When working in the round on circular needles or sock needles, you knit all sts on every round. You must read the pattern to be able to follow. How to work garter stitch back and forth

In this DROPS video we show how you can work garter stitch back and forth on the needle using the continental method. When working garter stitch back and forth on needle you knit the stitches on every row. When working garter in the round on a circular needle or sock needles you will have to knit one round, then purl one round, and then repeat these two rounds alternating. Note! When working in garter st your gauge i.e number of rows in height, will increase compared to working in stockinette. You must read the pattern to be able to follow. How to knit a rib (K1, P1)

In this DROPS video we show how you can knit a rib in knit 1, purl 1 (K1, P1) Knitting a rib gives an elastic piece that is great for cuffs and edges. It’s important that all knitted stitches comes above knitted stitches, and all purled stitches come above the purled stitches. 1st row (RS): K1, P1, continue like this until end of row, turn. 2nd row (WS): P1 above P1, K1 above K1. Continue like this until end of row, turn. Repeat 1st and 2nd row until rib has desired measure in height. You must read the pattern to be able to follow. Edge sts in garter st is good when you want a nice firm edge on a piece that you later will sew inside or pick up sts from. In this DROPS video we show how you can knit edge stitches in slip stitch (aka chain edge). When knitting a piece you have 1 stitch in each side of your work that is an edge stitch. The edge stitch are usually not included in the pattern, and there are different ways to knit the edge stitches. This depends on what kind of edge it is, if it will be sewn later like a side seam, if it will be open like on a scarf or a front edge of a jacket. Slip st edge / chain edge is great when you want a nice and decorative edge, like on a scarf or a front edge on a jacket. To get this nice looking twisted slip st along the edge, on every row you slip the 1st stitch as if you would knit it, and you purl the last st on every row. How to cast off with a picot edge

In this DROPS video we show you have to cast off with a picot edge. In the video we knit like this: K 1, (* insert right needle in between the first 2 sts on left needle (i.e. between sts on needle, not through sts), make 1 YO on right needle, pull YO forwards between sts and slip YO on left needle *, repeat from *-* 2 more times (= 3 new sts on left needle). ** K first st on left needle, pass first st on right needle over last st worked **), repeat from **-** 5 times in total and repeat from (-) along the entire row until 1 st remains. How to cast off with a picot edge on a rib

In this DROPS video we show how to cast off with a picot on a rib. Knit 1, * insert right needle between the next 2 stitches (not through the stitches), make 1 yarn over, pull the yarn over between the stitches and place on left needle *, work from *-* 2 more times (= 3 yarn overs on left needle), knit and cast off 7 stitches (= 1 stitch + 3 yarn overs + 3 stitches). Work from *-* and cast off 7 stitches in the same way along the whole edge. When there are not enough stitches to work another picot, cast off the remaining stitches as usual. How to work a fan with increases between stitches

In this DROPS video we show how to work a fan between 2 stitches and at the same time increases 5 stitches * Insert needle in space with marker thread, make 1 yarn over and pull yarn to the front of piece, knit 1 *, repeat from *-* 5 times in total (= 5 yarn overs on needle). NOTE: Make sure that the yarn overs have the same length (it is important to avoid tight yarn overs to make the knitting tension correct vertically). On next round knit the yarn overs. How to knit a wave pattern

In this DROPS video we shows how to knit a wave pattern using decreases and yarn overs. In this video we are following a pattern repeat with 17 sts in width and 4 rows in height. 1st row (RS): K2 tog 3 times, yo, K1, yo, K1, yo, K1, yo, K1, yo, K1, yo, K2 tog 3 times. 2nd row (WS: K all sts (they will be purled seen from RS) 3rd row: K all sts 4th row: P all sts When casting off, work the first row of M.1 whilst casting off (to make the binding off edge wavy too). How to work wave pattern after charts

In this DROPS video we show how to work after chart A.1 and A.2 to the Good Night Baby blanket in DROPS Baby 33-4. We work 2 rapports after the charts and we have already casted up 42 stitches + 3 edge stiches in each side (= 48 stitches). How to knit A.1 in DROPS 163-17

In this DROPS video we show how to work the wave pattern following chart A.1 for the Mermaid Song blanket in DROPS 163-17. We knit 3 edge stitches on each side and knit A.1 2 times the width. How to knit a zigzag pattern

In this DROPS video we show how to knit a zigzag pattern, which is used in several of our designs. In this video we cast on 40 sts and K2 rows. Continue as follows: Row 1: knit this row with dec as a start off for the zigzag pattern; in the center of each repeat dec by slip 1 st as if to K, K 1, psso and then K2 tog as shown in the chart on the pattern. Row 2 (WS): P all sts Row 3 (RS): dec as on row 1, in addition inc 1 st each side of each pattern repeat by K2 in 1 st. Repeat row 2 and 3. How to knit a bubble

In this DROPS video we show how to knit a bubble. Knit 5 sts in the same st as follows: knit 1, yarn over needle, knit 1, yarn over needle, knit 1, turn the piece, knit 5 rows of stocking sts over these 5 sts. How to knit an easy bubble (nupp)

In this DROPS video we show how to knit an easy bubble. We knit as follows: Work 4 sts in 1 st by working alternately in front and back loop of st 4 times. Work 4 rows in stocking st back and forth over these 4 sts. Then pass 2nd st on right needle over 1st st and 3rd st over 1st st and finally 4th st over 1st st (= 1 st remain). How to knit a nupp

In this DROPS video we show two ways to knit nupps, with both versions make sure to make really loose loops! If you are doing lace knitting, you may have come across nupps. Nupps originates from Estonian knitting, and adds pretty texture. Nupps are like bobbles, and reminds of flower buds. Knit a nupp by knit and make a yarn over a number of times into the same stitch, end with a knit stitch. Usually end when you have knitted 5, 7 or 9 loops, depending on how big you want the nupp to be. Put all loops back on LH needle and knit all loops into 1 stitch. Tighten yarn and keep on knitting. Or you can use a crochet hook to do the same thing. *Go through stitch, get yarn, make a yo on hook, repeat from * and end with going through stitch and getting the yarn, Then make a yo and pull yarn through all loops on hook = 1 stitch. Put this stitch back on RH needle, tighten and keep knitting.
