How to knit English rib in the round

In this DROPS video we show how to knit English rib in the round. Cast on an even number of sts on a circular needle ROUND 1: * 1 YO, slip 1 st as if to P, K 1 *, repeat from *-*. ROUND 2: * P tog YO and slipped st, 1 YO, slip 1 st as if to P *, repeat from *-*. ROUND 3: * 1 YO, slip 1 st as if to P, K tog YO and slipped st *, repeat from *-*. Repeat 2nd and 3rd round upwards. You must read the pattern to be able to follow. You’ll find patterns where you can use this technique by clicking on the pictures below.

Dear Sussa, could there be a problem with your working gauge? Even if the movements are correct, if the gauge is irregular or too tight, the piece will look crooked. Try to work making sure that your gauge doesn't vary much along the piece. Happy knitting!

Hola María Guadalupe, si trabajas en redondo con una aguja circular entonces se trabaja siempre por el lado derecho. También puedes trabajar de ida y vuelta con la aguja circular; sería igual que con agujas rectas. Bonjour Agnès, effectivement la consommation de laine peut être différente, l'idéal est de tricoter un échantillon identique avec les 2 techniques et de les détricoter ensuite pour mesurer la longueur totale de fil utilisée pour les 2 techniques. Cette technique est plus souvent utilisée lorsque l'on tricote avec 2 couleurs (cf cette vidéo. Bon tricot!

In this DROPS video we show how to work 2-color English rib in stripes where it works with the second color on the edge stitches/band stitches and how to twist the strands together when changing colors. The edge stitches/band stitches works in garter stitches. ROW 1 (from RS): Work 5 edge stitches in garter stitch with the second color, switch to the main color, but twist the strands together to avoid holes and work English rib to the edge stitches on the other side. Lift the edge stitches over to the right needle, push the stitches back on the circular needle so the next row is also worked from the right side. In this DROPS video we show how to work the 8 first rows in the Burning Leaves shawl in DROPS 204-3 that is knitted with English rib.
