How to work a broken rib, with 2 stockinette stitches and 2 garter stitches (back and forth)
BEFORE THE VIDEO STARTS:
The pattern stitch count is divisible by 4. To work a symmetrical pattern on both sides
of the piece, the total stitch count needs to be divisible by 4 + 2. The swatch’s stitch
count is divisible by 4 + 2 and, in addition, there is 1 edge stitch on each side.
THE VIDEO SHOWS:
ROW 1 (right side): Knit.
ROW 2 (wrong side): Knit 1 edge stitch, * knit 2 , purl 2 *, repeat from *-* until there are
3 stitches left on the row, knit 2, knit 1 edge stitch.
Repeat ROWS 1 - 2.

When you are doing a pattern like this, 2 st stocking, 2 st garter -- when you are on the RS, doesn't that just mean you're doing a garter stitch for the whole row? Then on the WS you're doing purl 2, knit 2? I am just learning the stocking stitch so am a bit confused as to how to do this pattern. Thank you!

Dear Miranda, when you work a pattern like this with 2 sts in stocking stitch, 2 sts in garter stitch, you will knit all stitches from RS and from WS you will purl the 2 sts in stocking stitch and knit the 2 sts in garter stitch. Happy knitting!
