---------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ---------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (back and forth): Knit all rows. 1 ridge vertically = knit 2 rows. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.4. Diagrams show all rows in pattern seen from the right side. INCREASE TIP (applies to sleeves): All increases are done from wrong side! Increase 1 stitch in each side on sleeve by making 1 yarn over inside the 2 edge stitches in garter stitch. On next row (right side) knit yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. Then choose between 2 options on how to work the new stitches: Option 1 (simple): Work the new stitches in stockinette stitch but on row 12 and 14 in diagrams knit from wrong side over all stitches on row. Option 2 (more adaption): Work the new stitches in pattern as far as you can (it is important to count the stitches closely, to decrease the same number of stitches in pattern as yarn overs made in pattern). Work the stitches that do not fit a whole or half repetition in each side, in stockinette stitch. BIND-OFF TIP: To avoid a tight bind-off edge you may use a larger needle size. If this also is too tight, work a 1 yarn over after approx. every 4th stitch while binding off (bind off yarn overs as regular stitches). ---------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- SWEATER - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: Work back piece, front piece and sleeves back and forth on circular needle, bottom up stitch, separately. Sew piece together as explained in pattern. Then work a double neck edge. BACK PIECE: Cast on 67-77-85-95-105-117 stitches on circular needle size 4.5 mm = US 7 with 3 strands Kid-Silk. Remove one strand. Work rest of back piece in 2 strands Kid-Silk. Work 3 ridges in GARTER STITCH - read explanation above. Switch to circular needle size 5.5 mm = US 9. Work next row as follows from right side: 3-3-2-2-2-3 edge stitches in garter stitch, work A.1 until 4-4-3-3-3-4 stitches remain on row (= 6-7-8-9-10-11 repetitions of 10 stitches), work A.2(= 1 stitch) and finish with 3-3-2-2-2-3 edge stitch in garter stitch. Continue pattern like this. REMEMBER THE KNITTING GAUGE! When piece measures 34-35-36-37-38-39 cm = 13⅜"-13¾"-14¼"-14½"-15"-15¼", bind off 1-1-5-10-10-11 stitches at the beginning of the next 2 rows for armhole = 65-75-75-75-85-95 stitches remain. Then work pattern as follows: XS, S, L, XL/XXL and XXXL: 2 edge stitches in garter stitch, work A.1 until 3 stitches remain on row (= 6-7-7-8-9 repetitions of 10 stitches), work A.2 (= 1 stitch) and finish with 2 edge stitches in garter stitch. M: 2 edge stitches in garter stitch, work A.3 (= 5 stitches), work A.1 until 8 stitches remain on row (= 6 repetitions of 10 stitches), work A.4 (= 6 stitches) and finish with 2 edge stitches in garter stitch. Continue pattern like this until piece measures approx. 38-40-41-43-44-46 cm = 15"-15¾"-16⅛"-17"-17¼"-18" cast-on edge, but finish after one whole repetition vertically. Switch to circular needle size 5 mm = US 8 and work garter stitch back and forth over all stitches. When piece measures 48-50-52-54-56-58 cm = 19"-19¾"-20½"-21¼"-22"-22¾", bind off the middle 23-25-25-25-27-29 stitches for neck and finish each shoulder separately. Continue with ridges and bind off 1 stitch on next row from neck = 20-24-24-24-28-32 stitches remain on shoulder. Continue to work until piece measures 50-52-54-56-58-60 cm = 19¾"-20½"-21¼"-22"-22¾"-23⅝". Switch to circular size 5.5 mm = US 9 and 3 strands Kid-Silk. Loosely bind off by knitting from right side. Work the other shoulder the same way. FRONT PIECE: Cast on the same number of stitches as on back piece, and work the same way as on back piece until piece measures 41-43-45-46-48-50 cm = 16⅛"-17"-17¾"-18"-19"-19¾". On next row slip the middle 7-9-9-9-11-13 stitches on 1 stitch holder for neck, and finish each shoulder separately. Continue with ridges and bind off for neck at the beginning of every row from neck as follows: Bind off 2 stitches 3 times and 1 stitch 3 times = 20-24-24-24-28-32 stitches remain on shoulder. SLEEVE: Cast on 35-35-37-37-39-39 stitches on circular needle size 4.5 mm = US 7 with 3 strands Kid-Silk. Remove one strand. Work rest of sleeve with 2 strands Kid-Silk. Purl 1 row (= wrong side). Work next row as follows from right side: 2 edge stitch in garter stitch, * knit 1, purl 1 *, repeat from *-* until 3 stitches remain on needle, knit 1 and finish with 2 edge stitches in garter stitch. Continue rib like this for 2 cm = ¾". Then work 2 ridges back and forth over all stitches. Switch to circular needle size 5.5 mm = US 9. Work next row as follows from right side: 2 edge stitches in garter stitch, work 0-0-1-1-2-2 stitches in stockinette stitches, work A.1 until 3-3-4-4-5-5 stitches remain on row (= 3 repetitions in all sizes of 10 stitches), work A.2 (= 1 stitch) and finish with 0-0-1-1-2-2 stitches in stockinette stitch, and finish with 2 stitches in garter stitch. Continue pattern like this. When piece measures 6 cm = 2⅜" in all sizes, increase 1 stitch in each side - read INCREASE TIP. Increase like this every 6-4½-4-3½-3-2½ cm = 2⅜"-1¾"-1½"-1¼"-1⅛"-⅞" 8-10-10-12-13-14 times in total in each side = 51-55-57-61-65-67 stitches. When sleeve measures 52-50-49-47-45-42 cm = 20½"-19¾"-19¼"-18½"-17¾"-16½", insert 1 marker in each side. Markers mark where sleeves are sewn to the bottom of armhole. Continue pattern back and forth as before until sleeve measures 1-1-3-6-6-7 cm = ⅜"-⅜"-1⅛"-2⅜"-2⅜"-2¾" from markers. The entire sleeve measures approx. 53-51-52-53-51-49 cm = 21"-20"-20½"-21"-20"-19¼" - NOTE! Different sleeve length in the different sizes due to shoulder width. Switch to circular size 5.5 mm = US 9 and 3 strands Kid-Silk. Loosely bind off by knitting from right side. Work the other sleeve the same way. ASSEMBLY: Sew shoulder seams inside bind-off edge - make sure the seam is not tight. Place sleeve approx. ½ cm = ⅛" inside the armhole on body so that ridges along the armhole is on the outside of sleeve. Fasten neatly along armhole on body with small stitches in outermost garter stitch. Sew bottom of armhole - markers on sleeves should fit the side of body. Sew under sleeve and side seams in one - sew in outer loops of edge stitch to get a flat seam but stop seam when approx. 12 cm = 4⅜" at the bottom remain in each side on body (= vent). NECK EDGE: Pick up from right side approx. 72 to 86 stitches around the neck on a short circular needle size 4 mm = US 6 with 2 strands Kid-Silk. Work rib in the round (= knit 1/purl 1) for approx. 5 to 6 cm = 2" to 2⅜". Loosely bind off with knit over knit and purl over purl - Read BIND-OFF TIP. Fold neck edge double towards the wrong side and fasten with small stitches, make sure to avoid a tight seam. |
