Hej Dorthe, diameteren er når du måler fra den ene side og lige over til den anden side (på det bredeste) :)

I'm knitting the neck warmer and am confused about when you start knitting in English rib. After decreasing to 72 stitches and beginning the English rib pattern, round 1 actually increases the stitches. Should it be knit 2 together rather then k1?
25.01.2023 - 19:36DROPS Design answered:
Hi Jane, With English rib the number of stitches fluctuates depending on which row in the pattern you are working. The extra stitches on round 1 will be reduced in round 2. Happy knitting!

Buon lavoro!

Knitted beret and neck warmer in DROPS Air with unicolored and two colored English rib.
DROPS 204-38 |
|
---------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ---------------------------------------------------------- ENGLISH RIB: ROUND 1: Knitted with fog. Work * 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch as if to purl, knit 1 *, work from *-*. ROUND 2: Knitted with denim blue. * Purl together yarn over and slipped stitch, 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch purlwise *, repeat from *-*. ROUND 3: Knitted with fog. Work * 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch purlwise, knit together yarn over and slipped stitch *, work from *-*. Repeat rounds 2 to 3. INCREASE TIP: All increases are done on rounds with fog! Increase in knit stitch as follows: Work 5 stitches in stitch and yarn over as follows: * Knit yarn over and stitch together but wait to slip stitch on to right needle, make 1 yarn over on right needle *, work from *-* 2 times in total and knit stitch and yarn over together 1 more time = 5 stitches (= 4 stitches increased). On next round work the increased stitches in pattern - there are no English rib yarn overs in increase, so on next round in English rib pattern work stitch to be worked together yarn over, without yarn over. KNITTING TIP (applies to number of stitches): All numbers of stitches given when working English rib is without yarn overs, because yarn overs belongs to knit stitch. Knit stitch and yarn over is counted together as 1 stitch. DECREASE TIP (applies to hat): All decreases are done on rounds with fog! Work until stitch with marker, slip yarn over and knit stitch as if to knit together, knit the next 3 stitches, (knit 1, 1 yarn over, purl 1) together and pass yarn over and slipped stitch over (= 2 stitches and 2 yarn overs decreased in total). Decrease like this at every marker (= 12 stitches and 12 yarn overs decreased on round). BIND OFF TIP: To avoid a tight bind-off edge you may use a needle ½ size larger. SHAPING TIP (applies to hat): Make the hat wet and carefully press out the water. Fasten the hat over a flat plate with approx. the same diameter as hat, and but the plate on a glass so that the hat is not in contact with the surface. Leave hat to dry and take it carefully off the plate. This is done every time the hat is washed. ---------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- BERET - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: Worked in the round on double pointed needles/circular needle, top down. BERET: Cast on 12 stitches on double pointed needles size 6 mm = US 10 with fog (leave the yarn end 30 cm = 11¾" long and use it to sew together the hole at the top of hat) Knit 1 round and purl 1 round. Then work ENGLISH RIB - read explanation above. When 1st round in English rib pattern has been done, there are 6 knit stitches on round. Insert 1 marker in each of these 6 knit stitches, use markers for increase and then decrease. On 3rd round in pattern increase 4 stitches in each of the 6 knit stitches - read INCREASE TIP (= 24 stitches increased). Increase like this every 12th round (i.e. every 6th round with fog) - 5 times in total - REMEMBER KNITTING GAUGE! After last increase there are 132 stitches on the needle - read KNITTING TIP. Work until piece measures 33-41 cm = 13"-16⅛" in diameter). Insert 1 marker thread in the middle of row and leave the marker thread here - MEASURE PIECE FROM HERE. Move the 6 markers 8 stitches (i.e. 4 knit stitches) towards the left. On next round with fog decrease 2 stitches after every marker - read DECREASE TIP (= 12 stitches decreased). Decrease like this every 4th round (i.e. every other round with fog) 4 times in total = 84 stitches on row. Work until piece measures 6 cm = 2⅜" from marker thread. Work next round but without making yarn overs = 84 stitches on needle. Switch to circular needle size 4.5 mm = US 7 and work rib in the round with denim blue = knit 1/purl 1 for 4 cm = 1½". Then bind off with knit over knit and purl over purl - Read BIND-OFF TIP. Hat measures approx. 10 cm = 4" from marker thread (approx. 27-31 cm = 10⅝"-12¼" from the top and down). Sew a few stitches up and down in cast on edge, and tighten together hole on the inside, fasten yarn tightly. Read SHAPING TIP. ---------------------------------------------------------- NECK WARMER - SHORT SUMMARY OF PIECE: Worked in the round, top down. NECK WARMER: Cast on 108-126 stitches on circular needle size 6 mm = US 10 with denim blue. Knit 1 round. Work next round as follows: * Purl 1, knit 2 together *, work from *-* = 72-84 stitches. Then work ENGLISH RIB but work only with denim blue - read explanation above. REMEMBER THE KNITTING GAUGE! When neck warmer measure 16-18 cm = 6¼"-7", then continue the same way but now work with both denim blue and fog as explained. When neck warmer measures 18-20 cm = 7"-8", increase 4 stitches in every 6th-7th knit stitch (i.e. every 12th-14th stitch) - read INCREASE TIP (= 24 stitches increased) = 96-108 stitches - read KNITTING TIP. Continue in the round with English rib in two color until neck warmer measures 23-27 cm = 9"-10⅝", adjust to work next round with fog. Bind off with fog - bind off with knit over knit and purl over purl, bind off yarn overs as regular stitches, i.e. Work yarn over as a stitch and then bind it off as the other stitches. |
